Oh No! Snow Again?

  • A snowstorm moving into the Chicago area just in time for New Year’s Eve could cover us with 3 or more inches of snow, forecasters said.

“There might be slightly lesser amounts in the southern suburbs, but generally speaking, pretty much the metro area is going to end up with 3 to 5 inches,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Gino Izzi said.

The first flakes should arrive early Tuesday evening — possibly in time for the evening commute — and continue through Wednesday morning, the peak period when holiday revelers are venturing outside.

Drivers should be prepared for snow-covered roads, limited visibility and difficult travel, the weather service said.

Of course, part of that "difficult travel" is the complete lack of plows and salt trucks clearing streets....until they aren't paying OT to the drivers.

Some jeweler in Mundelein may take a $150,000 hit because he's fronting the cost of past purchases if there's three inches of snow on New Year's Day. ouch.

Last week they were talking about the snow that couldn't have come at a worse time (it was afternoon rush), like it was a blizzard. It was about an inch, if that. Relax newscasters, this isn't Buffalo NY.

Once again. ...The lead story is the weather.
Glad nothing else is going on in the world.

Only 135 more days until the National Police Memorial in Washington D.C.

Right around the corner.

Winter, too.....will pass.

I'll give it to the plow drivers in Chicago; a lot of suburb roads are horrible when snow hits but every time, the path I take in Chicago, it looks like it drizzled for a minute. Good for them making the big OT, seeing they are on-call and working rotating hours. Share the wealth with the minions.

Algore was right about global warming. We are starting to see it's full effects and they are not pretty. Just like those scientists trapped on the ship in the ice. Global warming is global and it is everywhere. Ask yourself, how normal is it to have snow and snow storms this time of year. Maybe we should listen to Algore. Obama takes global warming seriously.

Rahm better have those plows out for the next two days or start packing up his office. Skilling says 13 inches thru Thursday. Then again, maybe we should just enjoy the gridlock in the city and let it play out. Nothing like a good snow storm that sweeps a mayor out of office.

The city has no OT money for snow removal since $100 million went for VRI.

So true! Snow removal has been minimal to Bilandic this Winter and it seems as if Rahm is trying to cut costs by having all of the icy roads left in a frozen mess.

Just a Bit OT;
Will the City ever paint the lane dividers or crosswalks on the streets again? It been two years already, it's needed, you know for the children.

fuck this snow!!!!!!! I cant take it anymore. I retire in 14 months and cant wait to winter somewhere else. Its great for christmas but after that no thanks. The wife and I bought a 3 bed Condo last year down in siesta key, FL where we will be spending much of the winter and summers in mid west michigan. Bought a cheap apt here in chicago to keep a base here to visit and spend time with the kids still but im saying goodbye to chicago soon... cant wait. My oldest daughter just graduated college and just moved into our place in michigan and got a job up there.. VERY glad she sees what we saw with chicago. forget this place and its snow.

If Skilling is correct, nobody will be able to find Rahm until the snow melts

No, no, no, no! It's only for the children when it's a money-GRAB.
Spending money on the children is a whole different conversation.

And, yeah, the curve at Logan Boulevard by Western is a slalom run, thanks to no centerline paint, like pretty much of Archer Avenue.
World-class city. Right.

Funny how Chicago snow command has disappeared from news coverage. Streets and San were always interviewed on the news. Only IDOT has been on so far. Does Rahm not want the taxpayers to know how many trucks are really out? Is Tiny even in town?

The plows aren't on the streets cause they're on LSD making sure no one gets stuck again .... As usual, it's all about liability and image, they don't give a fuck about us , never have and never will

Jim Byrne is in Canine. Perhaps you meant his cousin, Tom Byrne who was Streets and Sans czar and is now Dir. of Security for the Park District. How does what he does impact YOU, asswipe? Get over it.
