Money Wasted Again

This is amusing - sort of:
  • SCC,

You ain't going to believe this shit.

The department spent who knows how many thousands of dollars installing a brand new set of lock boxes outside of the 011 District lockup. The existing lock boxes inside the sally-port haven't had keys in decades, so they installed these new ones.

There are two sets of keys, one in the door of the box and one in the DSS office. But the MASTER KEYS? The ones that open all 12 boxes? It seems the installers handed those off to the civilian maintenance personnel and they haven't been seen since, running onto a few days now, more than enough time top make any number of copies that can be used to........well, your imagination can run wild with that.

How long until guns start disappearing and if these master keys are keyed to any other stations' lock boxes, someone has just created a pretty big security nightmare.
This was from a week or two ago. Any word if the keys turned up? Or if the Department is going to re-key all the boxes?

Probably all planned out. Now they have to be re-keyed. Another service call by Daley-Vanecko Locksmith Inc.

Your information is wrong, 1 master is in the dss office 1 master in the CO's office. They were given back the next day. Seems downtown is the one who told them to give them to maintainance. It was straightened out the next day, but they still could have made copies so don't use them except when inlockup and you won't have any worries.

Price to change the lock on the lock boxes in the sallyport...

Try about $25 a piece.

Ahhhh, the Chicago way. Don't you just love it!

The master keys are not with the contracted maintenance people, they were given to the city building engineer. The city building engineer has keys to every lock in the building... including the lock-up. Not unique to 011... the building engineer assigned to each police facility has master keys to everything in that facility. Nothing to see here... move along.

My sources tell me that the boxes have been converted to nesting boxes for homing pigeons*.

Once raised and properly trained, these pigeons will be used to deliver "wake-up messages" reminding the 2/W D.S.S. that he should have been at work hours ago.

The birds' return flights will deliver messages containing pre-completed SPAR Forms for those officers who were late for roll call.

* Pigeons "coo", they don't say "Meep, Meep!!"

To the unpublished:

We put it up so coppers who don't know any better don't have their guns come up missing because the master keys went for a walk. Is it that hard to understand? Asshat.

Quit trying to start something that's NOT. Finally we do have working lock boxes outside the lock up door. They prob cost $500 with installation maybe less. Put ur gun up, bring in shithead, get ur gun. Simple. If a maintenance worker had the balls to "try" and open it then its in the open hallway and will be seen. Next topic. Move on.if anyone has a problem with them please come see me. 011 District 3rd watch -Mike Mette

No. Any guns missing from any locked box will have the department assume that the p.o. involved didn't lock the box and will be held personably responsible. A CR will be initiated and the officer in question will be facing anywhere from 5 - 15 days, unpaid of course.

All this will be done because re-keying the boxes will not be in the budget.

008 has the same new lockboxes. Apparently the company that made the locks on the originals went out of business and the city cant find replacements. The company was called "Vanecko Locksmith, LLC"

Well if that response is truly Mike's, he has nothing to worry about, because Mike locks up a criminal about as often as the merit promotions are legit on this job. He has no need to lock up his job, let alone bring it to work.

Mike got totally screwed in Iowa - that was total bullshit and I will never spent a penny in that town ever again - however Mike is absolutely not the working police. More talk than game.

What do you mean "If the civilian support staff are not 110% trustworthy..."

The fucking bosses, commanders, superintendents, aldermen, and fucking mayor are not even 50% trustworthy. Why the fuck should the civilians be more trustworthy than the command staff and elected officials?
