- Police have launched a homicide investigation after officers found a grisly scene in an apartment in the Northwest Side's Belmont Gardens neighborhood early Christmas morning.
Police were called to the 2500 block of North Kildare Avenue about 2:05 a.m. by someone who reported a homicide, Chicago Police Department News Affairs [...] said.
Officers found a decapitated body in a basement apartment there, police said. The body was that of a 41-year-old adult male, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the death this morning but listed the man's name and age as unknown.
An 18-year-old was taken into custody outside the building "without incident," [...]. Police also recovered a knife, she said.

Hmmmm...this is cook county...you have the body(well some of it) you have the offender who summoned police to the apartment. You also have offender confessing to the crime....so with all that evidence I'm sure our States Attorney will hit him was an agg batt and then ruduce the charge to a concealment of a homicide to cut a deal for a plea. He will be sentenced to 15 years and be out next week . The end.
Surely not on Christmas. Chicagoans would not be doing homicides on Christmas of all days. Especially with crime and murders at historic lows.

Felony review originally only wanted to approve misdemeanor charges since there were no witnesses and bad guy wouldn't confess. They suggested charging him with theft of lost or mislaid property since the head wasn't his.

After hearing this heartwarming holiday story it really got me in the xmas spirit. I was making an ipod christmas music mix for our family dinner.
