Meanwhile, Killings Continue

  • Three people, including a 74-year-old man, were shot to death within three hours on the South and Southwest sides in Chicago overnight, according to authorities. Adding to the toll are two teens who died Wednesday after being shot earlier in the week.
We also heard that persons who were shot in a previous calendar year and expire after a long hospital stay are no longer being counted in the current years homicide totals. They are instead being counted for the year they were injured.

So the Department will go back and change the totals from previous years when no one from the media is looking, even if it's years ago? Is this a change from years past? Because that would save McCarthy a handful of homicides a year.

Any detectives care to comment?

OT, but just heard that the leather jackets will be no more. If you have one, you can wear it, but new hires won't be able to purchase one. We are shorthanded, shootings are still happening at an alarming rate (I don't believe the Dept.), morale is in the toilet, and we're worried about what jacket you can/can't wear? WTF

It's a manipulation of the crime numbers, come on all you idiots in the Chicago media can you be this gullible, wake up, the FBI IUCR book is 167 pages and nowhere in that manual does it allow you to play games with the murder # like this asshole is doing, we are the only department doing this manipulation. You can change the Agg. Batt from previous years but not a murder. Additionally, the IUCR manual maintained by the Illinois State Police also does not allow this.

So DO YOUR FUCKING JOBS CHICAGO MEDIA!!!!!!!!

No, no... you have it all wrong. Crime is DOWN due to the marvelous crime fighting strategies of McMoron. I heard him say so last night on his WTTW interview.

Seriously, Chicago Tonight is a great program which is now made even better with the inclusion of comedy segments such as we were treated to last night.

Is it true that McMoron had the entire WTTW studio searched to make sure that Carol Marin was not on the premises before he arrived?

Just asking...

One of the media's jobs is to make the ruling class (this includes the mayor and superintendent) look good.

Regarding a death resulting from an injury that happened in a previous year; the death is counted in the current year since the death occurred at that time. Some people would linger for years after being shot, and then die as a result of sepsis, which the medical examiner would rule was caused by being shot, therefore a homicide. The bosses never liked it, but they had to eat those anyway. It's not a homicide until a death occurs, other wise it's an agg batt. Imagine what this would do to all the ghoul pools going if suddenly it changed. I remember some close calls where someone was shot on New Years Eve around 2330 hrs and was pronounced dead at 0010 hrs the next year. Another example would be the discovery of a decomposed body in January. It's obvious the person has been dead for some time, but since the person was pronounced dead after the discovery, that was when the death occurred, and the homicide would be counted in that year. It's never about the date and time of injury, it's always about the date and time of pronouncement of death.

We're averaging a bit more than one a day. Yesterday's 5 homicides helped up the average.

December To Date
Shot & Killed: 22
Shot & Wounded: 61
Total Homicides: 24

As for recounting based on incident date vs time of death, FWIW, that's how we've been doing it. We're glad to see the CPD come around to our way of thinking.

And the UCR is online for anyone to see. Just google it. Mc Moron does to care about UCR or anything other than himself. How would the families of the victims react if they knew that the homicide of their family member doesn't get accounted for because they do not go back and even change the old homicide counts. This should remove any doubts that McCarthy has absolutely no integrity.
