Dart's Stupidity Continues
Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart has decided that the Concealed Carry Law is going to be completely unworkable because, get this, he doesn't have enough power to deny people permits to carry:
- Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart on Tuesday took aim at the state's concealed carry law that takes effect next month, calling it a “monstrosity” that is “fraught with problems and holes” and vowing to object to permits being issued to those arrested even once in the last seven years for domestic violence, gun possession or gang crimes.
Dart wouldn't rule out going to court to seek an injunction to block what he called an “absolutely absurd” approval process, saying the law will result in permits being issued to people who shouldn't have them.
“This is not something I'm going to blindly go along with, saying, ‘All right, they've done it again to us in Springfield, another law that doesn't make any sense and we're just going to stand back and do it,'” Dart told reporters at the sheriff's police headquarters in Maywood.
The Illinois State Police has a system in place....:
- The law tasks Illinois State Police with overseeing the permit process but gives county sheriffs, state's attorneys, local police and the attorney general's office the power to object to a permit being issued. When objections are made, a review board will decide if the permits will be issued.
....but that's not good enough for Tom "I know better than you what's good for you" Dart. And don't even get him started on the "mental health" exceptions he wants to carve out:
- He said the screening for mentally ill applicants is also woefully inadequate and flags only those who have been committed to a hospital for psychiatric treatment or been found by a physician to be a danger to themselves.
Um....what other methods are there? ESP? Maybe complaints by an ex-wife or husband? Anyone the sheriff thinks might be unstable without a shred of proof whatsoever?

Concealed Carry law is a JOKE in Illinois. What other Constitutional Right has a $500+ price tag on it?
My friend just went through the class - $300 for a 16-hour class, they knock it down to $150 if you have a DD-214 Form (if you were in the Military)
PLUS- $55 to get fingerprinted. It isn't necessary, but the way the state is going - if you are NOT fingerprinted, they will sit on your application. The ones with fingerprint sets will be processed first (MORE TYPICAL ILLINOIS BUREAUCRACY BS)
Plus, you have to shoot 30 rounds and hit the target - or you don't pass. How many coppers in this state actually qualify????
Well you better accept other state's concealed carry permits. I am thinking about getting mine in WI. This state is a total joke.
Why don't we put out fees for the First Amendment? If you want to be in anyone in the Media, you have to go through the same "pay your fees" process. Same with EVERY politician.

Well...in this case you *almost* can't blame Tommy. He's just doing what comes naturally to stupid people -- being, doing, and saying stupid things. Now some may inquire, how do I, or anyone (like SCC), know that Sheriff 'Two Gun' Tommy is stupid?
Simple, he provides the proof himself, it's called a Biography. Especially what he studied and/or got a college degree in, and little Tommy's is an eye opener:

It appears that Sheriff Dart, is not a protégé of Sheriff Joe, out in Arizona.
A police officer that refuses to enforce the law is breaking the law.
Not to mention the "Safe Passage" fiasco, where kids get attacked and raped on their way to school. The media implication seems to be that she was assaulted because she was not technically on a Safe Passage route at the time of the attack, as if somehow that would have even made a difference.
If Dart had cooperated with the lawmakers, he could have had some input and gotten a funding source and also background checks. But he stayed with his rabid anti-gun masters and lost big time.
And now he is crying about his error and blaming others.

Yes, elect a 19th ward political hack with no prior law enforcement or management experience as the sheriff of one of the largest counties in the United States and you get comments like this just to keep his name in the forefront. This is the same tactic that the Rev Jesse Jackson uses to keep his irrelevance from becoming too ingrained. Both of them share the same trait: a special kind of stupid.
I don't get it. If the U.S. Supreme Court declared our gun law unconstitutional, why can honest law-abiding citizens just start carrying their weapons? If the state cannot come up with a formula or plan to license gun owners, is that the problem of U.S. citizens??
Why is it that you don't have to register for your other Constitutional rights like, freedom of speech, religion, press??
I believe in carry/conceal, but I have to agree with Dart on the State of Illinois's arrest standard that ISP must follow for a permit to be granted. They can only file an objection for a permit if an applicant has five or more arrests in the last seven years or three or more gang-related arrests. That is just plain ridiculous. Wat too loose a standard.
And since this is a carry/conceal topic I'll add this to the my comment.
HR 218 status to carry/conceal is virtually impossible to attain if you have moved out of State. Even if you are within easy driving distance to go to an ISP course for certification, you can't be certified without an FOID card which you cannot acquire unless you are an Il. resident. It's a Cluster Fuck!
Not a cop , but I love how real police officers are not worried at all , and even encourag the average tax paying citizens to arm themselves to protect their families . What is the disconnect between police on the streets , and those that run these departments ? I'll take the advice of the guys on the front line . Can't you guys get a real cop to run against Dart ???

I used to like Dart... that either shows what an idiot I am, or the low standard that we've come to expect in the Cook County Sheriff.
If only Dart put as much effort into keeping CONVICTED criminals somewhere near the term of their sentence, good citizens would be safer. As the police I welcome an armed, intelligent, rational citizen with a firearm. The only ones who will be in fear are the assholes that terrorize good people. Interactions between legally armed citizens and police will be civil and professional. Bad guys beware as this force multiplier is coming soon. Individuals who abuse their gun rights will obviously be sanctioned. Shooting a piece of shit that is trying to harm you or your family should be a new code 20-Boy. Bad guy shot, offender gone!

I have said before on this site and I will say it again. TOM DART IS NOT OUR FRIEND. He has a very low opinion of the CPD. When he took over the Sheriff's office he fired many good former Chicago coppers who worked for the Sheriff previously and replaced them with lawyers who knew nothing about police work. In fact the mantra at his office was ABC (Anybody but Chicago) I will go so far as to say we are better off with Rahm as our mayor rather than this pompous, arrogant publicity hound.

You have to navigate the " do you have the latest Java in your browser" hassle just to start applying and obtain a "Illinois Digital ID" just to apply. Talk about jumping through hoops.
