Look! Crime is Down (Like It Was Before)

  • Chicago is on track to have one of its lowest crime rates in decades, but some neighborhoods on the South and West sides seem stuck in time with persistently high violence rates — an inequality that demands attention, according to a new Yale University study.

Professor Andrew Papachristos also found a greater proportion of murders in the city involve street gang members since the mid-1990s. Murders among rival gangs are on the decrease, but killings among factions within the same gang are on the rise, he wrote.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel pointed to the positive news in the report, saying the drop in crime isn’t a one-year blip, but something historic.

“This is not just 2013 against 2012,” the mayor said. “This is 2013 against the last 40 years. That is what is significant.”
Big Deal. Chicago is returning to the downward slope that it had been tracking on until Rahm and McCompStat decided to start a "Let's See What Happens if We Try To Do Less With More" strategy that blew up in their faces, resulting in a step-up of hiring numbers and an overtime surge that continues to this day. Rahm wants credit for returning to the status quo and just forget about all those dead people in 2012. That would be a drag on any future Senate or White House campaigns.

It's called hide the numbers.... Now that McComstat manipulated the property crime numbers it's time to hide the murder numbers and shootings...

Tell me how you can be shot in April 2012 and die in 2013 but the city don't count the murder in 2013, or 2012 now for that matter....

3. EMT's save many more that years ago through excellent training
4. ER's are like surgical centers with better trained doctors and nurses with new and more technical training and equipment.
5.CPD does not report correct stats
6.If you put 50 or more extra officers in districts crime will go down because they don't chase the radio all night to nonsense calls.
7. Rahm and the yes men bosses are soooooooooooo smart

I thought there were one or two killed and ten or more shot but still alive this past weekend. However, if Yale University says the overall crime rate is way down, then it must be so. Da mayor made it happen and he should get the credit. Chicago can be proud.

top-cop math says 7,000 guns have been taken off the streets and homicides are down 18 percent over 2012.

therefore we guess he only needs to take 35,000 guns off the streets to make homicides go down by 90 percent.

of course on the other hand isp reported way back in march 2013 illinois had about 1.5 million foid card holders and that record applications were being submitted thru-out 2012 -- by jan 2013 foid card apps were running 70,000 per month and the isp was 60 days behind in processing.

so maybe homicides show a decrease over 2012 because ppl are arming up eh.

if we assume that just 10 percent of those foid applications - just 10 percent - for that one month of jan - are for chicago i think it's safe to say we have more guns in the city not less guns.

shhhhh. but let's not bring that foid stuff up tho. it's the cutting of street cop staffing initiatives right

all that said i'm not buying the false narcissistic premise of the powers that be that it is because of their initiatives homicides are down vs 2012

plus or minus four percent chicago homicides hasn't budged compared to 2011-2010-2009.

why couldn't homicides be down vs 2012 because of higher success rates in the trama centers or the e-r's, or als first responders.

maybe it's the nija's 'code of silence' that turns the homicides into a death investigation.

but, no-no, like the entertainment districts i-phone picking and subsequent victim discouragement to bother filing a crime report because the masters have the system so jazzed that you'd have to be a moron to throw even more good time and money after the bad.

no, don't look at the 911 calls that the victim decides to drop because that would ruin this illusion of control that the brass promotes. just give out little twisted tib-bits on statistics that paint a picture that things are working --everything's fine.

correlation doesn't necessarily mean causation people, the brass can keep up the repudiation propaganda tho. we're not buying it.

Respect comes from the top down. Rahm doesn't show the public that he respects the Chicago Police Department, so the Gangs don't respect nor fear the Police, either...and too many officials turn the other cheek. Lots of Drama out there with plenty of dead and dying bodies.

crime is down so much that when a foia request was filed in order to obtain info on off-duty cpd officer's being attacked in the 19th -- the brass found it necessary to try and censor just about the entire document - what a joke take a look..

http://crimeinboystown.blogspot.com/2013/12/unappealing-cpd-releases-off-duty.html

they got something to hide..eh.

sure it's embarrassing. it f-ups the political script.

we wonder if the victims here got the same caps-like speeches from the brass about being aware of ones surroundings and to run back inside your home and lock the doors if you see a stranger in your neighborhood

you know, the shifting the blame speeches that it's our own fault if we get jacked up.

who was it.. the band called 'the talking heads'....they had a song with the lyric '..same as it ever was'

The report says they use FBI UCR data to calculate crime rates for other cities.

Then, for the City of Chicago, the report decides to "impute the violent crime rate for 2012 from our data at hand."

In other words, "after using the UCR data for everyone else, we're going to use our own calculations for Chicago."

Ummmm.... OK.

The report is here if anyone wants to read it: http://images.politico.com/global/2013/12/15/48yearsofcrime_final_ispsworkingpaper023.html

NRA's "First Freedom" magazine has a nice article explaining how the police in the UK have cooked the books since they banned guns in 1997.

The truth is that nobody really knows what the crime rate is in the UK, much like Chicago.

Remember, less police means less reported crime. This is especially true in neighborhoods that have seen lots of new section 8 dwellers in the last decade.

There are two interesting things about this article. He compares his numbers, with the accompanying neighborhood map o f crime rates, to 2011 (not 2012. We're about the same as 2011. Also there is never a mention that in 1965 (some 40 years ago)Chicago's population was 3.6 million, not 2.5 million of today. What do you think we would be like if there were still an additional 800-900,000 people here?

The increased and intense physical presence of police personnel via the overtime initiatives completely contradicts the concepts of Community Policing and the Concept of doing More with Less. The reality is Rahm is saying one thing while doing another, this intense police presence cannot be maintained. The destruction of the Projects, and entire neighborhoods on the West and South Side is what is reducing crime and driving it to the burbs.

The news fails to mention that in 1965 Chicago had 3.3 million people and in 2013 only has 2.7 million. So if the murder rate is the same now and it was in 1965 then the murder/crime rate is actually HIGHER today.

The news never tells you the truf.

When I read this article yesterday on this 'Study' by these Yale eggheads the very first paragraph made me just a tad...uh...'uneasy'. This is the salient part: '...but some neighborhoods on the South and West sides seem stuck in time with persistently high violence rates — an inequality that demands attention...'

Got that -- read it carefully and s-l-o-w-l-y -- an "inequality". And it "DEMANDS" (our) 'attention'. Let that sink in really really good for a moment.....
...... Good, now are ya ready for the $64,000 Dollar question?...well here it comes: What pray tell is the standard solution by libtard eggheads for and/or to all 'inequalities'....come on, you know the answer. Yep! That's right, you got it -- You Spread It Around -- to make it, 'Equal'. Oh and fair, we can't forget making it 'fair'.

So just like King Richie II initially spread crime around the city by demolishing 'the projects' and moving the 'Bangers all over the fucking place, watch for Tiny Dancer to come up with some new programs that will spread Crime even more-so from the South & West sides that have an unequal amount of crime into the once and/or few remaining 'safe' neighborhoods.

The Rahmfather will do this via new City Regs for Apartment Bldgs and Section Eight Vouchers, and/or with more mandatory 'Affordable Housing' units in new High-Rise buildings. But one way or another, 9.5 and the DemonRATS will make, 'Violent Crime Fair & Equal For All'.

Twenty - Twenty-five years ago this would be an insane idea or conclusion. But as we learned from Billy-Jeff Klintoon, 'words have meaning'. And then we learned real fucking quick from Barack Mugabe Obama about inequality & everyone *paying* their "fair share" -- which includes becoming crime victims (paying for our past sins. /s).

So watch out. In a few years the entire city will become a Free Fire Zone for the dope-slingin' gang-bangin' shitheads.

They've changed the language and the true meaning of words in order to spin the message the crime is down...

Comp-Stat is nothing more than statistics making ugly babies with circular logic in order to get the results these people want.

Comp-Stat explained in mathematical terms for the layman?

A bullshit variable rubbed against a plausible constant = whatever the fuck they want it to...

Got it?

An intentionally destroyed Police Department...

Citizens being left on their own due to delayed Police response due to the intentional destruction of CPD...

Citizens non-reporting of crime because thepowers that be put a system in place that is intentionally non-responsive to the citizens.

Tax-Paying areas having their Police coverage stolen from them because they're "too nice" to kick up a fuss/too busy trying to live life...

Notice how tax-paying areas have borne the brunt of "consolidation" with more to come with the impending merger of 020 and 024?

The curent talk is how the people of 019/023 have been sold a bill of goods.

From two disricts with a manpower compliment of approximately 350 officers each to one unwieldly super-district with a manpower compliment somewhere in the mid 200's.

Funny how that happened...
All the other consolidations are shaking out to be the same thing?

"Crime Is Down"

Ok...

This can be attributed to the Police, right?

Or perhaps to the brilliant strategies of the smartest, most integrity oriented municipal ceo ever and his apt, able and wholly competent hand chosen police administrator who is the walking/talking personification of Peelian Policing principles?

Or perhaps the loss of nearly one million people in population since "1965" which seems to be the benchmark they like to reference when talking up crime reduction?

Our natural bias is toward attributing the drop to The Police...

So... As a reward and a gesture of good faith, >Snicker!< how about the powers that be get out in front in the media and quash all this silly talk about how The Police, who were so instrumental in crime being down, must take a haircut on their pay, benefits and pensions.

Well? What say you?

You ARE interested in putting forth a pay/benefit package to attract and keep the very people who are so instrumental in crime being down, aren't you?

Or is it actually the smartest, most integrity oriented municipal ceo ever and his apt, able and wholly competent hand chosen police administrator who are out in the field leading the charge?

What say you local media?

Which ever one could it be?

Never you mind that laughter in the background...

This is absolutely correct. Compstat removed 13 previously recorded homicides (delayed fatals) from the numbers a couple of weeks ago. They also added a few to 2012's numbers that they did not make homicides last year to keep the numbers down. So they are manipulating this year's and last year's numbers. So delayed fatals are never accounted for. If you compare apples to apples and count homicides as we have in the past, we are simply right back to where we were when McCarthy got here...meaning no improvement.

Worst part is, the chief of detectives has gone along with the program and drank the kool aid by the gallon.

Their new strategy is working because of the brilliance of your mayor and white shirts. The violent crime rate goes down and you guys are bitching about it. So typical of you blue shirts.

It should be pensionable. The pricks save on the pension. Plus they fail to fund this one properly.

You don't read past the 1st sentence, do you? That was round 1 in what promises to be a long fight. It isn't decided, not over, now on to the appeal.

There are reasons why the FBI does not accept Chicago's crime stats as legitimate numbers. The rest of the country adheres to certain crime classification and reporting standards.

Chicago uses the Bernie Madoff method of accounting and the Louie and Vito method of keeping crime stats.

There should be a movie or a documentary on workings and politics and the goings on in this city and not on cable.Show the citizens of Chicago what is going on in this city. Most don't get shit from the media (local news, papers etc.) independent investigators should be involved.College film makers and such.We are dying here and no one knows what to do except bitch about it.Show it on ABC or NBC or WTTW cause there are no more investigators in this city.We need the youth who are not afraid of the Mayor or anyone else.Make a name for your self kid and show what's really going on here.Shove it down our throats.Start a fire.Say in the future" Hey I did that story,I exposed that shit."Make a name for yourself like Pam Zeckman. How do you think she got started.People need the news.Maybe print won't be around much longer but something else will replace it.People need to know who's fucking and who's getting fucked.Move it up a notch and tell them who's not fucking them.I know you are sitting in your dorn room or where ever thinking you can make a difference.YOU CAN.Take your long haired journalists and help this city.Ask the rude questions and demand answers until they run from you.Let the people hear you kids. You are the future. With out you we are lost.Chicago is not gonna be Detroit God Damit. It won't. SCC is about the only thing you can get these days and I know they mean well but not enough people know who they are.Help us some how kids.

"And yes, I have taken it up with him, in person."

He's a thin skinned cry-baby who whines to the W/C (or whatever the hell they're called nowadays) to "do something" when you set him straight for doing/saying juvenile shit.

Just don't hurt his widdle feewings or he'll tattle on you to the boss...

The bosses in 014 told him to find a home elsewhere because they were tired of his bullshit/fucking with the troops.

He's been told the same thing in 019...

On Sunday I heard somebody in a red van was shot in the head on Zone 1 radio. Nothing at all about this in the news. Numbers manipulation, or coverup?

You my friend make an excellent point. I am sure if we shopped around, we can find some excellent talent. The next hurdle is financing. We will need money to finance this project.
