Didn't Gmac once state that PO's should only be able to move once a year? Or was that part of an on going nightmare I've been having.

So if you bid out now you are stuck on whatever watch the district puts you on until Jan of 2015. The department proves us right every time and shit like this is why there is no trust.

All VRI will now be in 003. There will only be one commander, one captian, and one caps sergeant assigned to 003.
Now all they need to do is hire enough police to fill in the gaps they created in the last six-seven years.
Think about all the knowledge and expertise that evaporated over all that time just to run this Department on the cheap.

Well today is a day I have been waiting for! There are openings everywhere! There are even 8 openings in my promised land of 019! This means I will get to make 8 new friends! I get to hear more war stories from all over the city and compare them with my old glory days on the west side! Folks let me tell you 019 is a promised land now that the lead singer of the Village People XO M.R. has left the district. It is significantly greater to now work in "the Looney bin" of 019. Everything is compstat related and not based on last nights binge drinking.
The only problem I see here though is the exodus of folks from 019. You see there are a lot of unhappy cowboys and cowgirls at the 019 ranch. The wounds are still fresh from the days of Inspector Expressway as the XO. Also they beefed up our boys and gals on midnights this year which meant a lot of unhappy officers that. "Got dumped". I have it on top secret hush hush clearance that within hours of the announcement the PAR forms were flying in. I hear that Inspector Expressway's paramour MH put in her transfer request. A shame really, I rather liked her and feel bad in her choice of man meat. I hear many who got dumped put in their transfer requests, hell I even heard that the park car people are bidding out... How bad is it when the park police flee a district?
All's I know is I am staying put! I love the sun over the lakefront, I love watching Cubs fans hearts get broke
, I love watching young love in progress on Clark St, even though some nights it does look like Englewood north but with blonde chicks running around trying to play "ride a gangbanger so daddy will respect me".

Funny thing is these openings will take effect after the watch bids have already been completed.
That means anyone coming into a district can be placed at the D.C.'s whim.Barring any quarterly bids these coppers could be stuck on an undesirable watch for a year... even if they've got the seniority to do better on a bid.
I believe there is 170 PPOs in the Traffic Unit. They must all be coming to the Districts.
This could make watch bids next year very, very interesting.
And yet, still no sergeant's class announced? I know that for those of you who this doesn't effect, this sounds like a broken record. But some of us have had our lives on hold in a lot of ways for the past 7 years. Yes, seven! But this guy has the balls to send a Pax 501 bragging about all the opportunities he's created for advancement, yet nobody has called him out on the fact that NOT ONE sergeants or lieutenants class has been made this year. It's one thing to go to the newspapers and TV stations and feed them the bullshit, but to feed it to the troops and expect us to swallow is deplorable. Just make whatever merit picks will make that fat f*ck Jason Erwin and the rest of the black alderman get off your back and be done with it. Don't put on a big song and dance about making sergeants -something he's said at Compstat about 8 months ago, and have us go into the new year without a single one. And if you do, don't think nobody notices.

Places like 005 that are already short a ton of coppers are going to be decimated from this. Nobody will bid in and they'll lose at least 10 or so. So net coppers down - 20.
Only thing I can think of is that the academy has been churning out quite a few classes this whole year. Many of them are now due to finish their probation, and will be assigned to districts.

This month’s edition has Garry McCarthy on the cover and an interview. The article has to be read in its entirety to see the lies and propaganda that is being spewed. The two subjects that were interviewed and quoted for the article are Lt. David Harris and Commander Barb West. Harris who was promoted through the performance based process (again) will no doubt at a future date be given a command position based on not on his ability but his connections and clout. Barb West also is cited in the article as someone who has seen the department from many different positions as stated in the article. Bard West as stated to her officers that “when she was on midnights she use to sleep in the hole on the island”. Way to go Barb. McCarthy is quoted as including West as “one of the people who will walk down to the end of the alley with you.” Really, because one you would have to wake her up, second do you really want her by your side and finally if things go sideways will she have your back? This is the type of leadership that is promoted and encouraged in the department that McCarthy is redefining. The walls in the stations have all the quick quotes about the job. “Earned, not given.” Really because in the department that exists today as in the past it is “Given, not earned” Think back and ask yourself why has this department lost to retirement the Chief of Patrol, the Chief of Detectives, and the former Commanders of Narcotics and Gang Intelligence all within the last six months. I would have to assume that the men in those past positions offered to guide McCarthy but he would not listen to their knowledge and experience in operating in Chicago. The experience and knowledge that was lost will next to impossible to replace. Look at the people in the command staff positions and ask yourself “did they truly earn their position and do they have your best interest in the decisions that they make or have they become number counters in a profession where personal skills are a key component of being a police officer or a leader on this department?”

This is because specialized units are going to open for bid. Once you bid for a district you will be locked in for one year. Within 2 periods the unit bids are to open, but those who jumped the ship too early won't have a chance of going there. FACT ! The clouted already been told sit tight.

I'm planning in leaving CPD after 10 years, in another department my experience with CPD will get me promoted, pension and less hassle. It was good while it lasted, bye bye CPD. Forget this nonsense that it unnecessary.

I took thanksgiving off and I just put in a slip for Christmas eve and Christmas day which the tac lt already approved. I do know I cant get new years eve off but thats not a problem I dont mind working it. You see, if you do some work you actually can get rewarded because time with my family is the most important and I will work hard to spend time with them whenever I want. Meanwhile, while you do the bare minimum thinking your really winning your stuck in a beat car with a day off denied or sitting in snow on Christmas eve... yep, you got it all figured out and you are winning. enjoy Christmas dinner with your partner at the local Chinese restaurant.. 008 looking to get some of the older police back into the district. Guys and gals who have since transferred out to other positions within the police dept met in a local coffee house in 008 and are considering transferring back to what is referred to as "the home land." You bloggers can say what you want about other areas or districts but there is a lot of loyalty for those who work or have worked in 008. God bless all who wear blue.

Days is 0600 and 0700. 3rd is 1400 and 1500 and mids are 2200 and 2300. Now onto a few other points. If u have friends in 012 ask them bout the whole day roll call getting written up for the same thing they do everyday. Ask them bout the 4 hr days the crossing guard supervisor does BTW a po who should b on the street lazy. Ask them bout the 4 timekeepers or the 20 spots on days for foot guys with weekends off. Or about the special people on footposts that work upstairs. Again I'm sure the ghetto is worse I'm just saying the grass is not always greener on the other side.
Ditto on 012. It is a decent neighborhood to work in but the inside stuff negates it. There are so many officers hiding in administration it is not even funny. Not to mention, the blatant nepotism (assistant to the assistant time keeper/station foot post/ leave early officer.) We all had work midnights until we got some seniority. It is very bad for morale to have a class of officers who are exempt from this and neither their work effort or abilities justify any special treatment. Let the old guys/gals about to retire get the foot posts, necessary inside and desk spots, clean out the office and the rest of us are in the barrel with this squad program. Though we all play nice together since the merger, there is a general undercurrent of resentment that makes a once truly great place to work more difficult to do so than it has been in a long time.

They are all assigned right now to the "jump out boys 2.0". Units 411, 412, 413. In the past those bodies normally would have been counted in the district as man power. Now they're not. Do the math. By the time those poor kids get off probation and assigned to a District, they could be stuck in a dead end for the next 5-10 years.

First of all you are the idiot. Let me give you some hard facts. If you bid to a district now and they put you on midnights in January you can be stuck there till next year. Do they have quarterly openings, sometimes yes sometimes no. It all depends on the commander if he posts it. Can he do this, YES, because no one will challenge him. I know this for a fact. The old commander in 011 did it all the time. So don't talk crap about you can bid quarterly to a different watch. If they don't open them up, or if no one move off the other watches you are stuck. Its a gamble. So yes the common sense question is why would they do this after we bid for watches. Only thing you can infer is they wanna screw with us. On the other hand if you wanna get out or 004 and go to 016 cause you live at Harlem and Touhy then you gotta do what you gotta do. You have no idea what you are talking about ass wipe.

Guys like you represent half of the department. 15-20 years on and it's all spent in places like 020 or 018. Or some cushy unit. Boy some of you guys are a unrealistic bunch. Everyone has had to bid to a new district and get stuck on a watch they don't want for a short while even up to a year, sometimes less. It's called paying your dues. We all have to do it and it's no big deal. Think of the bigger picture, after watch openings occur you're back on the watch you want provided you have the seniority or activity to be on mgmt and all is fine again. I do not for the life of me understand this new generation that wants all the perks with no effort. Life is not like that.
Bid to the district you want, wait out the watch openings and you're home free. It's been done for many many years. You will survive. Don't miss the opportunity.

012 is great. Sure there are inequities everywhere no matter where you work but it's how you spend your day and being with your coworkers that makes this job fun. I bid here in 05 it's been up and down but overall fun. Come on over!
Well we should all just bow the fuck down to you and all the work you have done. Seriously you should be given a parade, a statue, maybe a street named after you in honor of how safe you have made this city!! You KID are not the only copper in the world who has done work in the ghetto and had a to deal with BS. There are far better coppers out there who's only complaint isn't that they cannot get to 018 or 020with 8 years on. In fact the coppers you speak of with such disrespect with 15-20 years on, sitting around in cushy spots, more than likely have done more, seen more, and lost more than you! But you will never hear them speak or BRAG about it. That's what Real Police means. Grow up you child
These cops sitting around in cushy districts have more than likely seen and done more?? lol I don't know what department you work for. Some have... Some did their time. "More than likely"?? We all know that's not true. The good majority of people in cushy districts or units haven't done shit! How many of the officers that are in 020, 017, or 018 right now have worked in the ghetto?? Or done anything but write anov's and answer yuppie domestics?? The good majority???? Iol

You are the greatest Police Officer ever! Everyday you go out there and fight crime in the ghetto and you are sooo brave. You are faster than any other officer and catch all the bad guys in foot chases. In 8 short years you have completely shown up every officer in the CPD. One day you are going to be the big boss, the Superintendent and you are going to be the best at it. I can't believe they don't let you take a short break and go to another district after everything you have done for this department. Please know that I think you are great and those stupid lazy cops are just jealous of you! You are a hero!!! But you already know that.

017.. There are a lot of problems in the 107 district especially on midnights with the lt J.S. and the boss can't handle him!!
