New FOP Book Out

First, why did they get rid of the blank pages for notes near the back of the book? We used to keep all sorts of handy items there. Now we're going to have to carry a loose piece of paper that will get lost and crumpled up.

Second, now we have a handy list of everyone that should be voted out of the office next year.

Type all the important info up in a 9 or 10 font, print it out, cut out the pages down to size and glue them into the book over some B.S. pages that are not necessary.

Like pages 154, 155, - 158,159

Why should everyone be voted out of office? At least three guys up there seem to know what they are doing and seem to do their jobs well. Aguilar, Dougherty, and Gorman should stay. A completely new regime is never a good idea for anyone. Even the state staggers elections so that cannot happen.

As for Shields and the rest. They won't be missed.

I ran into a retired cop at Oak Brook Mall yesterday. He said they have put together an all retiree ticket for the election. All would have done 29 and a day or better on the job. Everyone but one would be under 63 yoa. All would be full duty at the time of their retirement. All would be have been either unit rep or watch rep. Mostly unit reps. None would take a salary only a small monthly stipend.

They would interview active duty officers for the field rep position. Some - maybe the ones in office now - or in the past. The would run the office under close supervision. They would lower the pay of a field rep from D5 to D3. The Field Reps would have to play well with others and realize this is not a life time appointment. There would be an annual review. They would keep Chris Kato, Capt Farrell (sp) and Pat Camden on the payroll.

This all sounds pretty good and he sounded deadly serious.

Pissed off about missing pages?

Some of you motherfuckers are absolutely pathetic.

Not quite sure when FOP meetings are, or have been to more than you can count on one hand.

No clue as to how many years between FOP elections or how many positions exist.

Not even close to an inkling of an idea of the day to day shit that goes on there and how things come to be.

But these same D-Bags are the first to spout-off about who needs to be thrown out of office, how they're certain there'll be no retro check and how Mike and the crew have cushy gigs lined up post FOP for "selling out the entire membership".

I hope Rahm sticks it balls-deep into our collective ass just to piss you uneducated dolts off some more. I hope there ain't a cent of retro to be seen and all the blowhards here have to work a few extra days of VRI to make up for it.

Some seem to know everything about everyone and everything else, yet they're not smart enough to figure out what to do about a few missing pages in an FOP book.

And you wonder why the collective CPD will never be taken seriously.

From Dougherty's mouth himself, it was none other than Supt GMac that ordered him sent to 022. Supposedly, Supt was dumbfounded at what's going on at FOP and doesn't understand why Dougherty was dumped by Shields. Take it however you want, I heard it myself from Dougherty's mouth.

"This all sounds pretty good and he sounded deadly serious."

Yep. And you bought it hook, line and sinker.

Ya see, everyone talks a big game, throws out cool suggestions and tries to make promises regarding things they really have little to no [individual] control over. Now throw in a few guys that don't get along or that have different ideas regarding the way they feel the organization should be run and you oftentimes do more harm than good. Look no further than the current regime to witness what happens (or doesn't happen) when you put a variety of ideas, ideals, personalities, egos, experience and agendas in the same room and tell them to play nice. The best of intentions only go so far without the majority being on the same page.

Regarding salaries: I believe reducing salaries, for instance, would be subject to a vote and maybe even bylaw changes. And I got news for you, son....AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. Ever.

You want to break the strongest of bonds? Hit someone in their pocketbook. Look at all the "they're taking food off my table"-type comments you've been hearing regarding the retro situation as a prime example on how quick you can get coppers out of focus. Coppers are notoriously cheap and get extra vocal when complaining about money. Sometimes it's money they've never even had their mitts on. Same money that isn't a total lost cause yet.

Same goes for the good-intentioned retired dreamers contemplating a run at FOP. If there's anybody particularly guarded of their money, it's the old-timers. And don't get me wrong, retirees are a wealth of information and experience - I'm close to being one myself. That said, you'd be a fool to want or encourage an "all retiree" Board. The potential for conflicts of interest would be too great. A good mix is ideal - you just have to have that mix open-minded and on the same page most of the time.

Start attending meetings, get involved and try to land a spot on a committee or two and see how things work in the REAL world. I think you'll be unpleasantly surprised.

A wise old man used to tell me "the road to hell is paved with good intentions". Same applies here, albeit in different context.

First of all apparently you have never attended a meeting or had to do any business with FOP. So then you would not have any idea of the good people up there which there are several. Do you also think it is best to get rid of all your knowledge to spite your face?

As far as Steve is concerned check with Mike Shields and Rick King the last I heard the three of them are on the same ticket as last time no joke this is the truth. So check with Mike or Rick and they can tell you were Steve is at.

*******

Please name one that has been up there for two or more terms. Looking at the magnet from the last election let’s look at the CityWide team:

Bella and Capparelli jumped off of Dougherty’s ticket or did Bill push them off because of the coming legal problems? They are running with McDonagh who has his own special problem.

Duckhorn and Rutherford left to go with Angelo. Why? Because they know the shit is about to hit the fan.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZdp46Jen_w

And Burns and Trevino left to go with Shields. What do these six guys know that they are not talking about? Thats a lot of guys who jumped ship from the last election!

Maybe these six guys are all spies for Donahue/Dougherty 1000 year Reich. Maybe Robbins was a spy for Donahue all along. Lets wait a month and see how it looks like then.

I have every FOP book from my entire career. By the end, near 30 years, I had pages and pages of useful ph. numbers in those blank pages. You collect a lot of useful info and every year I would take it from the old book and transcribe it to the new. It was always like that, since the 80's.

Now there are no blank pages. I'd like to know whose decision that was. Dumb move. Dumb dumb. Not a huge deal but dumb.

OMG, I am truly flabbergasted why anyone who is even REMOTELY a bit sane would save their FOP books for 30 years.

I plan on burning every stupid-ass award, pin, stripe, and everything police related, down to the shoelaces in my shoes when I retire.

Could you please let me know if you're already retired and living out of Chicago or retiring and moving so I don't end up being your neighbor?

Honest to God, I can't imagine it. That's the kind of stuff sit-com writers come up with.

Revolver Police? You sound more like the flint lock police. Please do not embarrass yourself and put on the uniform and pretend you are still working to get a free meal like Sgt. Mike.

I'm not the poster to whom this was your response, but, thank God I never had to endure a day in a squad car with you. You have become a bitter, insecure, evil and hateful person that should be weeded out of the CPD. Merry Christmas!...as if that would be even remotely possible for you.

Stay safe boys and girls.

Saul is one of the problems. Just Look at his expense reports; He nickels and dimes the FOP for everything.

I called FOP about the missing pages. They said they are working on a Youtube fix for this oversight. In the meantime, they suggested I take the pages from the old book and install them in the new book like a supplemental reader. We'll, I followed their suggestion and it took me two hours to pull apart book, add new pages. and put back together. I don't embrace excuses. I embrace solutions.

Unless you're the goof who collected 30 years of FOP books and undoubtedly walks around with his 1st bag phone, just about everyone has a smart phone.

FOP has an app for numbers and Chicago Cop is an excellent source for information.

what's an app?

I hope u r kiding, but if not download it to your phone and you can keep couurt dates and important phone numbers in it

They should just eliminate the handbook altogether. Everything can be on the app.
Any old timers will have to move up to this century with technology

Yes, I'm kidding. And I tossed the bag phone years ago because Ameritech, later Verizon, went all digital on their network. Bag phone is analog. I don't know of any analog networks left in the US. Still I miss that old bag phone, and the brick, and the many flip phones. Now I have to have a smart phone, don't like it much though.

Keep an extra flint for the flintlock always.

That's the spirit! If I can't fix it, it isn't broken!

It started when I just started throwing them in a drawer in December and forgot about them. This went on for a few years and a few more and pretty soon I had a ton of them. It wasn't a compulsion at first, I just throw them in the police junk drawer and forget about it, till next year. Then one year I dragged them all out and I had every one.

Now, don't tell me that you don't have every check stub from every paycheck of your whole career? OK, I don't have those, but I do have the first one.

There will be an option next year to place an order by demand, by a deadline the printing company can fill by dec.2014 in time to have them mailed as usual, but only to those who order one for a small fee to be determined.

This way, the app happy smart phone users can continue to go greendigital while the conventional users can keep the traditional format for at least another year.

There's also a pop-up version with holograms available right now at participating Goldblatts stores in the basement clearance section. Stop in for a lime jello in the glass bowl from the cafeteria and you'll receive a set of 3D glasses so the bonus comic section of your fop book will really pop out at you.
