South Side Keeps Bleeding

Even the coldest day of the season (so far) can't stop four people on the south side getting ventilated, three fatally, one of those justifiably by a store owner:
  • Four people were shot, three fatally in shootings this afternoon on the South and Southwest Side, officials said.

A 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot this afternoon in the Morgan Park neighborhood, said Chicago Police News Affairs ...

The man was shot at 4:40 p.m. on the 11200 block of South Ada Street, [...]. Police were called to the area for a report of a shooting and found the man fatally shot in the head...

Police have also launched a death investigation after a person was fatally shot as they attempted to rob a store in the 1700 block of East 87th Street, [...]. The shooting happened in a cellular telephone store, according to witnesses.

The shooting took place at 6:30 p.m. and the store owner is believed to be the shooter, [...]. No other details were immediately available.

In addition to that shooting two men were shot this afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood, officials said.
And December rolls on.

Where are we on the "homicide" count?? That number has seemed to be forgotten by the local media, i mean propaganda office of the mayor. . . .

[note to local media: if you want to do good journalism, within the meaning of "freedom of the press," then you must get up from the fax machine, teletype, email inbox or wherever the "press releases" from city hall come from, and get out there and REPORT! Forget about that 5 pm deadline. Just think of George Bailey in Potter's office, when Potter tries to buy George Bailey since he can't beat him.]

Is Area South actually hiding several homicides. Are they listed as homicides internally but advised by Downtown not to "officially" submit them? Is this going on in all three areas? These are baby deaths and other questionable homicides. Downtown is working so very hard to keep the numbers down at the end of the year. Could be as many as 12 to 15 additional homicides citywide.

Wow, I grew up in Morgan Park back in the 70's. It was such a nice clean and quiet area. We use to picnic in Ada Park in 1976 in the summer. Dang shame what has become of my old neighborhood. Now it's just da Hood. Hello to my old block of 115TH Justine and Fenger HS class of 81!

What are you talking about? FTOs pick first in every district. That's just how it is. Is this your first year without an assigned furlo? Don't blame the district for your ignorance on the topic.

Dont know what department you work for. But the last time I checked, FTOs werent exempts. You think by shutting the door and only letting 3-5 people in at time to pick furloughs that you can hide crap like that.....guess again. BTW im not a PPO, I got 15+ years on the job and I work the streets hard.

SOME are bright and have potential . Might (of) be (been) dope slinging gang bangers but some do have potential and are sadly a product of their environment. But man, some of those young guys are cold and sinister, YOUNG and are better off dead. For them selves and society. Sounds cold but its the truth. Don't know if you were being sarcastic or not but thats just my weigh in on it from a resident of Roseland.

FTO's pick furloughs with other FTO's so they all won't be off all at once. Like sgt's pick with sgt's, Lt's pick with Lt's. FTO isn't exactly a separate rank but it doesn't effect any PO's, at least not the way we did it. FTO's picked just among FTO's. So what? That way they spread their furlough time off so every FTO was not off at the same time if they all had recruits. Big deal.

WRONG!!! FTOs pick with all the other P.O.s , they dont pick with among themselves. Contract violation, the cry baby is right.

Wrong, they are supposed to pick with every other P.O. They just did watch bids by themselves. Call FOP

I could not find that in the contract. If they pick by themselves and do not pick with PO's then who is harmed? If they do not take up any PO furlough picks why would PO's care? They still have their full complement of picks, 7% etc.

If an FTO takes a 13b just picking with FTO's and it doesn't diminish any of the PO's numbers for 13b, who is harmed? However, if FTO's pick off the same furlough sheet and pick first, then that is a no no.

If it is a contract violation, please list section.
