Illinois Jobs

  • Office Depot said Tuesday it has chosen Boca Raton, Fla. for its new headquarters over Naperville.

Office Depot completed its merger with Naperville-based OfficeMax last month, but the pair hadn't yet announced where the combined company would be based.

The companies asked for tax breaks from both states. Illinois lawmakers adjourned last week before making a decision.

  • The former OfficeMax has more than 2,000 corporate employees in Illinois -- 1,600 of which are in Naperville. The rest of the nonretail workforce is spread over three other locations: its Itasca distribution center and customer service centers in Ottawa and Peru.
We can't really blame the politicians too much. Office Depot was expecting a load of "tax incentives" and Illinois is broke. Broker than broke actually.

Boeing however, is looking for free land, tax incentives and lord knows what else:
  • Illinois is among the states assembling an incentive package to lure production of Boeing’s new 777X airplane, a business that promises thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic benefit to the winning state.

However, the package being submitted by Illinois is confidential for now, and details are not being released, an Illinois Department of Commerce spokesman said.

    [...]

Boeing has requested proposals for the jetliner program from more than a dozen states after the unionized machinists in Washington state last month roundly rejected a labor contract that would have guaranteed the plane was built there.
A long term manufacturing deal might be a something to offer tax incentives on. Boeing is looking to break their machinists shop union after a contentious labor deal fell through. Why not give Boeing all that land that the connected politicians bought up around Peotone and use it for a building facility rather than an airport no one wants? That'd be poetic-type justice for all those insiders trying to make a dishonest buck.

Problem is, before they can hand over land around Peotone, they'll end up buying it from JJ Jr and his pals for triple what they paid for it, so Illinois still takes the pipe and the politicians still get rich!

Boeing's wish list:

“Site at no cost, or very low cost, to project.”

“Facilities at no cost, or significantly reduced cost.”

“Infrastructure improvements provided by the location.”

Assistance in recruiting, evaluating and training employees.

Assistance in recruiting, evaluating and training employees.

A low tax structure, with “corporate income tax, franchise tax, property tax, sales/use tax, business license/gross receipts tax, and excise taxes to be significantly reduced.”

“Accelerated permitting for site development, facility construction, and environmental permitting.”

Other factors that will be “significant” when Boeing makes its choice early next year include:

Low overall cost of doing business, “including local wages, utility rates, logistics costs, real estate occupancy costs, construction costs, applicable tax structure obligations.”

The quality, cost and productivity of the available workforce.

Predictability of utilities pricing and government regulation.

whelp, and the taxpayer bailout of automaker gm is in the books. the government cashed in all of it's remaining gm stock and took a taxpayer loss of ten billion dollars.

of course this news is being spun...of course.

they are trying to sell us that the ten billion dollar loss was a huge success because without doing the bailout we would of lost something like one-hundred billion from the jobs lost, the payroll and social security taxes lost.

i'd like to see the details on that math. probably determined that all the jobs would be lost - no-one with better management skills would jump in and buy all the assets at fire sale prices and then restart the company. i'll bet they arrived at that one-hundred billion by not anticipating that the remaining auto markers, with gm out of the picture and bankrupt, would have to gear-up and hire people because the demand has to go somewhere.

nope. it sounds better if we keep the details and the math hidden and pull numbers out of a hat based upon false assumptions.

anyways. cash for clunker and taxpayer bailout money has just about been all burned threw. so it will be time to hit the money trough again or start shutting down operations because the people running this show are unwilling or unable to do so with a profit.

Better than giving the phantom airport land away, sell it back to the public for farming or industrial development. Put it back on the tax rolls and put profits into the pension fund. I'm betting that Boeing is not serious, with midwest weather being a huge hindrance to large scale aircraft assembly.
Now, excuse me while I go back to making my Christmas list for Santa Claus.

I also think Boeing would strongly prefer a right to work state. I would put my money on So. Carolina or Texas. There are states where "union" is a semi-dirty word. These states also have good jobs, robust economies and are not going broke.

the glorifying coal speech. i don't think there was one single word about the consequences, the pollution.

nope..all about growth and those infamous 'much needed jobs' bullshit

and the export growth.. oh man look at that projected export growth,

well guess what.

now fast forward and google shanghai china, where illinois shipped a lot of this coal.

the pollution index numbers are 20 times the hazard level.

you look at pictures and at high noon it looks like a cloud of fog at sun down. it's so bad the pollution is inside all the buildings, even the air terminal you can barely see one end to the other on the inside of the building.

as a result driving is being banned. flights are being cancelled and more. the residents are furious.

now i ask you. will quinn's rosy coal export numbers hold up. time will tell. check it out.

And why not tell Boeing to go FUCK itself and let NO state give these cocksuckers free land and tax free profits?

FUCK these corporate cocksuckers trying to evade every fucking tax they can to profit off taxpayers while using the fucking excuse that their employees will pay their taxes.

FUCK these motherfuckers, you wanna operate a business in this country you pay the fucking taxes to do it, JUST AS EVERY TAXPAYER IN THIS OR ANY OTHER STATE HAS TO PAY!!!

Corporate fucking welfare for the fucking billionaires.... FUCK EVERY ONE OF THEM, leave them NO place to turn to in ANY state where they can cop a free ride on the backs of the taxpayers!

And after NO state is allowed to steal business with free land or free taxes to burden their state, let the Federal government DENY them the ability to move their business outside the borders of this country, lest they can no longer operate in this country in ANY way.

They wanna open up shop in Vietnam? GUESS WHAT FUCKERS..... NOW YOU'RE A VIETNAMESE COMPANY because you no longer belong to this country.

You open up shop here? You fucking hire workers HERE AND ONLY HERE, YOU FUCKING SELL HERE AND ONLY HERE. You wanna open up in vietnam, different company motherfucker and the SHIT you make overseas STAYS overseas because it ain't gonna be coming back to this fucking country.

Illinois is only broke for some people not DePaul Basketball or Maggie Daley Park or Beverly Arts Center or any of Rahm's personal business friends.

The logical spot for Boeing if they were going to pick Illinois would be at Mid America Airport / Scott Air Force Base downstate. It is across the river from St. Louis where Boeing already has operations, there is an underutilized airport already in place, lots of cheap land, Interstate, rail, even public transportation to the door! Of course, it is in Illinois...

We do have a unused, state airport that can handle these aircraft. It's downstate of course, so it would not do Jessie and company any good.
Boeing is just going thru the motions with Illinois. Between Quinn and Madigan, we stand no chance of landing this deal.

OH YES I CAN BLAME THE POLITICIANS! They're the ones that jacked the income tax by 67% (just a permanent temporary increase), and have high fees and festering rates of corruption.

They're the ones that don't have enough cops to corral the wilding youth...

They're the ones that haven't funded the pensions like they should have been, so no one wants to be in this State for the pending pension implosion...

Add in bad weather during the winter, and ummm, what does IL have to offer a business? NOTHING.

eeesh.... a bit harsh in the language dude, but other than that your sentiment is exactly correct.

NO state should expose their taxpayers to the hostage taking corporations looking for profit at the expense of taxpayers.

The problem is, all state and local governments fawn all over these corporations because they're now allowed to contribute an infinite amount of money into the campaigns of those state and local government officials.

This is why entities like the Tea Party and quite a few republican organizations have abandoned their attempts at the federal levels, opting instead to attack at the state levels where their games go largely unspoken since state and local news is just that, state and local in nature.

These attacks at organized labor across the country are now being played out in state and local governments, in two prongs. Once to attack the pension pots of gold they see sitting there that they currently can't touch, and one to destroy public sector labor unions by using their friendly government officials to set up drastic economic conditions so that the sales pitch of "bringing jobs" in to pay the taxes the corporations won't seems worthy.

Corporations, avoiding their tax responsibility and pushing it off on their employees and the taxpayers at large.

Are most people still stupid enough to think these scum are actually HELPING state and local economies or do they see that they're evading their tax liability by claiming someone else is going to provide revenue in their place?

I've got news for them all, every state can charge them the full tax they owe, and their employees will STILL pay their taxes as well as spend their money in the local economy.

So why should any state give anything away to these people when they can have it both ways, as the tax code demands?

I mean, other than they get fat kickback checks in campaign contributions to keep the con game going in their favor?
