Playing the Game

  • I've heard of people doing almost anything to get their kid into Walter Payton College Prep High School. Whatever might work, I'm sure someone would try.

  • When you get competition like that, parents resort to the Chicago way: They pull strings. There were big stories a few years ago about how the connected would call Arne Duncan — then chief of Chicago Public Schools and now U.S. education secretary — to get some extra help for Junior.

Which leads to a story about someone who apparently did just that: Bruce Rauner. Yes, Bruce Rauner, the likely GOP gubernatorial candidate, whose biggest public claim to fame has been a crusade to reform education by sharply limiting the power of teachers' unions, which in his view are just a nasty special interest.
Already an insider, purportedly a republican, working hand-in-hand with Rahm and Rahm's cronies to manipulate a system he supposedly is running against.

Word is he also has not just one, but two bridges to sell to anyone interested.

just in...

chicago's gdp is growing.

no-no, not 'gross domestic product' the measure of goods and services being produced.

i'm talking about chicago here where gdp growing means the 'gangster disciples population' is growing.

yep, as the corporate/politician propaganda partnership outlets, the cppp, promoted that the cta blue line busy work would create 1,500 new jobs -- on the southside of town the cta red line was set to hand out 1,500 pink slips for the old jobs as the red line busy work had ended.

net job gains == zero

but there's more...

cta has also just announced that as of the end of 2013 the nine dollar an hour service car train cleaner apprentice program will not be extended.

this apprenticeship program was setup for ex-cons to bring them back into society. so as of jan 2014 at least 65 workers will be let go as cta ends the program -- whereas the ex-cons can return to the south and west sides to earn a living wage paycheck from the booming heroin distribution industry.

yes, chicago's gdp is growing my friends.

on a somewhat related 'crime is down' note this reporter has also learned that... yeah in 19 pot bust are down close to fifty percent.

now you can do the math in the high pot smoking districts and extrapolate the results to see how the 'crime is down' totals are arrived at -- we gave up...and rightly so.

however, does the transparent leaders want to show their work. i think not

anyways, get ready for the return of the ex-cons with no place else to go and the gdp growth. that is all.

squad can i get a personal.

The Rauner clouting his daughter into Payton story has been out there for awhile.

Just the Capitol Fax blog has made multiple mentions of it over the last few months.

Here's a specific link to the particulars on that blog. By the way that blog should be a daily scan for everyone until the state election next year. Run by a guy whose obsessive about state politics and his readers contribute a whole lot of good info to the discussion. More political junkies.

Rauner owns multiple houses and his daughter was set to slum it and nearly was forced to go to New Trier. Thank God daddy clouted her in.

I'd hate to think that some kid whose dad made a mere $53 million in 2012 would be forced to go to New Trier.

Now I'm going to end my sarcasm and say something of a non sarcastic nature.

Rauner had the money to send his kids to whatever private school he chose and NOT clout some poor to upper middle income Chicago kid out of a chance at Payton. Latin, Parker, the University of Chicago school the Rahmulan sends his kids too etc would have gladly accepted Rauner's daughter and daddy's money.

Nope, Mister Frugal with the eighteen dollar Timex he brags about rooked some unclouted kid into going to a lesser school. Fuck him.

If he's the GOP nominee I'm voting for puddin head Quinn. Rauner and Rahm are good buddies, Rahm made his millions working for Rauner, and I trust them about as much as I trust the States Attorney's office to run a fair investigation into any deaths involving Daley nephews.

The only good thing that would come out of a Rauner governorship is casinos in Chicago. Done right that could easily pour a few hundred million into government coffers a year to shore up the various pension plans. Does anyone believe with Rahm and Rauner making the decisions it would be run right?

Also google the name Widawsky and Lincoln School. Just do it. Oh shit here's a link.

Seems our new comptroller who lives in Lincoln Park is a big proponent of spending millions for either a new school there or a 18 million dollar addition. Meanwhile other nearby schools in Lincoln Park are under capacity.

Am I the only person picturing a certain famous scene in the movie "Deliverance". Here comes Rahm, Rauner and buddies taxpayers. Squeal.

I know my fellow Chicago Police Officers are as dumb as a box of rocks. That being said the comments show you are dumber than I thought. Illinois is broke and beyond corrupt. So what do the vast majority of comments say???? Vote for Quinn. U have to be beyond dumb for vote for Quinn. Illinois is bleeding jobs like a stuck pig. The Illinois style of big taxes and then give tax breaks to a select few is over. Illinois without real change (not Odumbo change) is finished. Why don't you clowns wake up and listen to interviews with Rauner. He has said time and time again that he would not take away pensions from Police and Fire. He wants the teachers and labor in a 401k. Laborers are a dime a dozen should be lucky to get anything. Public schoolTeachers spend more time off than anything else. They have have a tough job but are compensated fairly for the limited amount of days they work. FLOP needs to wake up!!! Police and Fire are the only two agencies that are 24/7. We are the only ones who risk are lives every time we put on a uniform. We need to break from the teachers, laborers, and the other government pay check collectors.

The old saying of United we stand and divided we fall is bogus!!!!!!! Why are Police Officers standing next to convicted felons??? Think for a second. Police have to take a test and get a good score. Take a battery of other tests (psych, fitness, and agility). Pass a background check. Go through a academy. Go through a tough probationary period. Pass a firearms qual every year. Held to a higher standard than any other employee in the country. Then what do we do?????? We stand arm in arm with clowns who are convicted felons with no education. We stand with those who on company time campaign for politicians. We stand with those whose only qualification is they vote democrat. We go to battle with people who have no moral compas. The CPD is corrupt yes. That has nothing to do with the average Police Officer. You can get promoted without a phone call. That doesn't happen with average Illinois government clown. Voting for Quinn or any other democrat is saying Illinois is fine and dandy. Please continue to bury you head in the sand, U R A TOTAL IDIOT!!!!

My vote is in. I'm voting for Bruce Rauner!!

Several alderman send their kids yo Skinner. Nothing wrong with any of that but next time you post something about why the average black family cannot get their children into the better schools this is the reason. Period. "Anybody reading this blog would do the same thing for their kid if they had the chance. And they have done it ."

Not true. I have children in CPS and had the opportunity to call a childhood friend who is in a high position to get my kids into one of the better schools. I didn't do it for several reasons. First, it's ridiculously unfair to children that don't have any phone calls to make...just like the un-clouted on the job. Second, I didn't want to have to explain to my kids someday that they didn't get into their school because they worked hard and deserved it, but because a phone call was made. What would that teach them? The best thing I did for my kids was to teach them to work hard for the things they want, not to cheat the system to get ahead. So please don't lump everyone who reads the blog into one category. The people that would cheat the system are the ones that become future politicians and bosses that we despise.

No we wouldn't. If I had his kind of money I'd send my kids to a private school and not fuck some poor or middle income kid out of a good education.

That's just me though with my Catholic guilt and trying to do the right thing most of the time.

I sent my kids to Catholic schools. Luckily I married a woman who was one of two kids in her generation of her family and she and a cousin inherited their bachelor uncle's N Side apartment building collection a decade after we married.

You would have thought the old guy was living on social security and his pension with his frugal lifestyle. My wife didn't know it until after he died, but he paid for her and the cousins educations for all the years they were in Catholic schools and colleges. He also secretly funded scholarships at the Catholic Parish/School he grew up in. Nobody knew until the retired pastor mentioned it at the funeral mass.

Some people are good and decent. I try to be and use that old guy as an example. I often fail.

Rauner and Rahm don't even try.

Rahm is probably helping Rauner. Rahm is ruthless and cunning when it comes to getting someone elected. Watch for Rahm to pull the same trick he pulled when Paul Vallas was running against Blagojevich in the Democratic primary for governor.

Rahm trotted tired old Roland "Tombstone" Burris out there to run to suck some of the black vote away from Vallas. It worked and Blago got the nomination.

That was all Rahm's doing. Watch Rahm do the same thing again, maybe not with Burris but someone similar, a shill to send a message to black voters to "vote for this guy."

Quinn could blunt this tactic somewhat by trotting out his own black girlfriend however.

We're fucked either way but we are likely less fucked with Quinn than with Rauner.

Didn't think I'd ever say this, but it will be Quinn and Rauner in the general and your best shot at minimizing pension damage is indeed Quinn. Remember, Rauner is out there blasting the latest "reform" package as not going far enough. He's a Scott Walker in waiting. Think he might be bad for police pensions? Think about what he might do to those schoolteacher pensions.

The smart union vote will be Democratic, as much as you all might hate to think of that.

And yes, he did clout his kid into Payton. He did call Arne. He did buy a condo down here to claim residency, like she really was a Chicago resident. She has since graduated so if the kid you have there doesn't know her, that's why. Rauner has not denied any of this but has whined about how wrong it is to bring his family into it. But in the meantime he buys more TV time to talk about how he'll crack down on those "special interests."

Oh, sure he will. Except maybe for his own. He's a phony and just like all the rest.

Rauner is no "Walker."
not a real policy reform Republican like the actual Wisconsin Governor who won in a fair election and won with even more support against dem/union/astro turf funded mobilized recalls.

Wisconsin had a chance twice, to choose an actual Republican who was no newcomer to the state, as he had already won elections in Milwaukee and also served in the WI. general assembly.

Why is this an important distinction?
Rauner and Rahm are disguising the coup to make it look like a Republican will again play the role of villainous bad guy and hold off another state win in the current tally of 36 Republican Governors nationwide.

Why is this so important to Rahm? He gets to have the usual Republican scapegoat take the heat for slashing public worker benefits, while at the same time look like the kind of Democrat who can "get things done" by working with the rival party.

Also, Governor Scott Walker ensured Law enforcement personnel and firefighters would be exempt from the changes caused to local budgets and pensions because he EXEMPTED public safety workers (cops/firemen)from ACT 10, stating the savings he sought should not come at the expense of public safety.
Matter of fact, Wisconsin media criticized the move because including Law Enforcement and Firefighters would have netted the state an additional 67 million dollars to the pension.

So don't compare Walker to Rauner. Rauner is Rahm's propped up phony reformer.

Just the cops who are married to teachers, then?

Walker's tally the second time he was democratically elected turned out higher than the first time.
He also won the public safety worker vote.

Teachers actually had their jobs spared, rather than the cuts that their own unions were proposing just to save their automatic dues deductions.
