- Illinois is one step away from paying one of its biggest companies to pack up and move from a struggling small city to Chicago.
While most people were keeping an eye on the state’s landmark pension reform vote earlier this week, the Illinois Senate approved what could be a $30-million tax break package to help Archer Daniels Midland move its world headquarters from Decatur to Chicago.
Maybe it isn't the pensioners breaking the bank?

They want this for the same reason every other company wants money from whatever state they are in. Every state hands this kind of money out under threat of a company leaving and taking jobs plus tax revenue. The money is there so they demand it. Not that ADM is really thinking of going anywhere else but they don't want to start a precedent of not taking government money when everyone else gets it.
Sort of like government cheese or government cell phones, it's there so take it.
It isn't enough to demand that laws be changed to benefit the huge corporations, the state has to pay them to make loads of money too. We are the chumps, it is our money being given away. But they cannot afford police pensions, just keep the cock suckers safe and shut up about it.

How about this....ADM has long time employees in Decatur who make a good wage. They pick up and move to Chicago leaving behind all those higher paid people. Of course they will offer them their job IF they move to Chicago. But of course most will not move. So ADM moves to Chicago, takes the 30m and smiles and says thanks you. They hire fresh people at a lower wage, and probably fewer people too. So they win all around and the workers of Decatur take it in the ass.

ADM does business worldwide. My guess is they want access to the major airports in Chicago and to save on the shuttle flights from Decatur. That and access to HQ of other businesses in Chicago.

ADM is staying put in Illinois no matter what. Only the HQ is moving. Like Boeing, do you see any aircraft factories on the west side? No. Only the HQ came here. And they got some corporate tax breaks because of it.
ADM has large facilities in Illinois. They will stay no matter what. I am not a corporate attorney so I don't know the ins and outs of the tax implications of where a giant like ADM has their HQ.
Basically it is a situation of everyone else gets their corporate payout and ADM wants theirs. In the ghetto they want their cell phones and government cheese. Same thing. It is the state of Illinois giving back some of the increased state tax rate so they keep filing taxes here.
