Bratton Back to NYPD

  • New York City Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio named William J. Bratton to return as the city’s police commissioner Thursday, selecting the former LAPD police chief to head a department praised for overseeing a drop in crime but criticized for its use of racially charged stop-and-frisk tactics.

Bratton had been expected to get the job, which has been held since 2002 by Raymond Kelly. De Blasio, who will take office in January at the end of Michael Bloomberg’s third and final term, was a harsh critic of Kelly and vowed to replace him if elected.

In a statement issued prior to a news conference announcing the appointment Thursday, De Blasio called Bratton a "proven crime-fighter."

"He knows what it takes to keep the city safe,” the mayor-elect said.

For his part, Bratton said in a statement that "De Blasio’s priorities are my priorities.”
Interesting, as De Blasio is a raving Marxist and supporter of the Sandanistas back in the 80's.

So what does this bode for McCompStat? Bratton had words of high praise for him during Rahm's superintendent search, conveniently glossing over McCompStat's use of racial slurs during drunken rages, his disrespect of other law enforcement agencies when his family was stopped for traffic violations, and the strange silence over streetlights shattered by bullets. Bratton might need a second-in-command who can be a loudmouthed distraction and McLookAtMe fits the bill nicely. He was also known to be in New York in the last few months. Someone commented his contract was up this spring, but we don't recall hearing about a specific "contract" in so many words.

Interesting times.

Historically, the supe's contract is for three years. Rahm commented, when he hired, McWrongChoice, that he'd 'like to keep him on' longer, so that there would be continuity (presumably through the reelection campaign Rahm claimed he wouldn't be conducting...).
But Rahm, being the shrewd spin-guy, never commits to anything, so now he'll order McSuddenlyInvisible to claim he has other irons in the fire, like he did to Hoff when he wanted HIM out.

He wanted that spot, not the back up position. And no he does not have a written contract=because of that?

Interesting times for the NYPD and citizens of NYC under their new mayor. I predict that within two years NYC will have a murder rate to equal or surpass Chicago's, and even tighter gun control than Chicago.

You must all have amnesia. The end of McDrunken's contract neatly coincides with the end of TD 9.5's first, and hopefully only, term.

And, Bratton is a smart man. He will not take our Bronx Bull Dog problem. Why would he do us the favor of relieving us from McStupid? It is not going to happen, unless Bratton has lost his good senses.

Historically? Where did you dream that information? Before the bronxbulldog, there have only been two superintendent's hired with a contract.

I would say that there is a contract. And, unless the city code has been changed, there are ordinances that protect the superintendent. These were passed when O'Grady was the boss. No one does business today without a contract.

Speaking of McLookatme, and in keeping with his wishes, I'm having a hell of a time trying to find a holster for my blunderbuss! I've checked Kale, VCG, even GAT guns in W.Dundee. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. An ankle holster for off duty use would be preferred.

I would also say no one uproots his family and moves to a new job and city without a contract. There has to be some job security and he also brought some friends from New York who would not move to Chicago if they thought he could be fired at any time.
Jody started the contract issue because he was not sworn personnel. Up to that point no supt needed a contract because he was a CPD officer and was covered under the pension. They could demote him, but he would still amintain his career service rank

Wrong No one before Weiss had a contract because they where Chicago police officers and didnt need one
Tribune listed in an article Rahm saying when questioned about will McCarthy get paid the same $300,000 as Jodie and his response was 'That will be negoitiated in his contract"

Right. He would NEVER think to protect himself and get a salary guarantee, or secure his healthcare benefits, medical time, vacation time, or spell out his responsibilities.
He was just so happy to be hired, he overlooked protecting himself and his dependents.
Now, his salary can change weekly, and his medical bills might or might not be paid for when he needs surgery or medication.
You must be right; there's no reason he would need or want a contract.

A contract? So fucking what. A contract is only as good as the people on the other side of the contract. How does our contract work out for us when we have to to arbitration or sue over every goddamned thing? The city ignores vast sections of the contract., Police officers constantly violate their own contract and the union does nothing.

The Illinois constitution states that our pensions constitute a "contractual relationship" with the city. How does that seem to be working?

In 1938 the Munich Agreement was signed by Hitler's Germany. Less than a year later Germany invaded Poland, starting WWII. That was a contract between countries. Almost 80 million, give or take, were killed in that "contract violation."

And then there is the "marriage contract." I am on wife four. Yeah, tell me all about the sanctity of contracts.

Enough bitching about McCarthy. He's better than his predecessor...and he is the real police. And in addition to be a decent leader, he thankfully has a policeman's sense of humor. We could do a LOT worse...even from among our own ranks.

WRONG! McStupid does have a contract. And Orlando Wilson had one back in the 1960's. Add Weis to the total and that makes three.

Only outsiders who accept the position of police superintendent need a contract. Chicago sworn personnel who take the job actually resign their rank when promoted. So, technically ( and that goes for sergeants, Lts and Cpt) if their rank is eliminated so is there job. That is the reason for the new oath when promoted. There was a city ordinance protecting all police supers from being arbitrarily dismissed. Not sure if it still exists.

"BOSS" is a term of endearment and respect and should never apply to Mc(Fill-in-the-Blank).

Neither should any sworn Chicago Police Officer call him, "Mr. Superintendent". "Mr. McCarthy", will do just fine.

"Tell me one thing he has done wrong...one thing." I could go on all day, but I give you just one.

The HATCHET JOB he has done on our beloved Department. Ask him, or anyone in Human Recourses or Finance, "How many sworn Police Officers were employed by the CPD when you started and how many are there now?"

You will not get a straight answer.

You will not get the Lame Steam Media to expose what this hATCHET JOB has done to our Department, officer safety, our city, our neighborhoods and our pensions.

We have got to get rid of Rahm and McFuckup and every Democrat all the way up to the White House.

Register and VOTE.
