Suburban Cop Shot

  • An Arlington Heights police officer has been shot in a domestic dispute this evening that has become a hostage situation, authorities said.

The officer was in critical condition at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, although his condition was believed to have been stabilized, an Arlington Heights police commander said in a news conference at the scene. The officer is a man, Mayor Thomas Hayes said.

The officer was shot in the neck when police first responded to a call of a man with a gun about 6:50 p.m. in the 1900 block of Windham Court in the northwest suburb, Cmdr. Andrew Whowell said in a news conference just before 9 p.m. The man has one woman in the townhome, and she is being considered a hostage, he said.

The officer was the first to try to enter the townhome and was shot while going in, Whowell said.

"Responding officers that were with him were able to pull him out of the residence, to safety," Whowell said, adding that police have identified the gunman, but were not immediately releasing that information.
Prayers for the wounded Officer.

UPDATE: Officer is listed in stable condition and headed to surgery.

UPDATE: Subject may be in custody.

Can't do much more than pray at this time.

Please, guys, this is why we old folk keep telling you a domestic is so dangerous. You just don't know what you're walking into, each and every time.

Arlington Heights has had some tough problems in the past too. AHPD Officer Tim Sheahan, son of ret. CPD boss Bob, was t-boned in his squad some years ago and remains wheelchaired to the present date. Last Sunday there was a fundraiser for him in their town.
Good Luck and God Bless these guys. "There but for chance go I."

Advocate hospitals have worked hard over the past several years to develop excellent trauma teams. They have surgeons who served in the military in Afghanistan and Iraq and have helped them develop many advanced trauma techniques. They are the place to go for traumas. This officer is in good hands.

I ain't a cop. But I have 2 sons who are. I worry every day that something like this might happen to one of them. When I tell them to be careful, they always laugh me off. I wish they wouldn't - what happened to that AHPD LEO could happen anywhere. God Bless all of you, AND BE SAFE! Officer safety first!

A big thank you to all the agencies that have helped us during this tough time. This includes the staff at Lutheran General, AHFD, CPD, ISP, CCSP, NIPAS, Des Plaines PD, and countless other local and federal agencies. It would be impossible for me to list you all so I won't even try. The amount of support has been overwhelming and is appreciated. We could not have done it without you.

God Bless you all and stay safe,

The DSS is a glorified Desk Sergeant in charge of the district station;

it's 2013, get with the program.

The Commander or Captain Hoot should make a call like that.

Well golly gee-whiz. I'm stumped?!?

Democrats say 'we' don't need guns for protection. That a Court Order will suffice. 'Everyone' obeys court orders ya know, right.

Well assholes! All those magical 'Court Orders of Protection, verbal talks & orders from Police, and even misdemeanor arrests -- Didn't Do A Fucking Thing! -- to keep this psycho away from *his woman* and stop him from harassing and threatening her.

How come DEMOCRATS? Huh, you stupid motherfuckers!.....grrrrrrr!

When that happens, do it among yourselves. Take it upon yourself to take turns taking care of the house. Premise checks, contact cards, car can't start, seat belt mission, make something up. Just don't put "PO's Mother's House" on the air.

Don't wait for the bosses to do the right thing. I have white hair and I am still waiting. Hoot used to be a decent guy. Fuck them, they all suck. Now if some former XO from another district wanted his Olive Oil looking girlfriend to have a car at her house they would shit over themselves getting it done.

With all the crap BS that goes into CO Books on a regular basis, a keep watch on the wounded officer mother's house is a no brainer,,,at the least, all the cars and supervisors should know about it unofficially.

Scumbags have no honor and would loot the place while the mother is at the PO's side if they knew the name.

Prayers and thoughts are with the Officer and our extended Police family at the Arlington Heights PD.

I would also like to extended thanks to Medical staff at Lutheran General Hospital for all they do.

My Brother was mentioned earlier in this post. Tim Sheehan, now on disability retirement from AHPD, was hit head-on by a DUI while on patrol, 8 years ago this February.
Without the Herculean efforts of the AHPD, AHFD and northwest suburban Police Departments and the staff at Lutheran Gen Hospital, he would not have survived this incident. Although he still struggles everyday, he is a testament to their efforts on his behalf.

For all those who have put themselves on the line for their cities and towns, We will not forget your service.

Sgt. Tom Sheehan

On this topic...
Our Santa Claus detail run by the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation that visits the families of our fallen and catastrophically injured members annually at Christmas to let the families know that we "Never Forget,"
also visited and dropped off poinsettias to this AHPO family.
It was a token of brotherhood for an injured suburban brother.
A class act, all the way.
God Bless all those that served and sacrificed.
Pray that we keep our record of two years running where we haven't lost a member in a LOD death in Chicago.
Stay safe!

Won't matter, these guys beef no matter what he does. I mentioned how he got the two po's from 015 their police powers back and how he wrote an opinion for them against IRPA who wanted to fire them and some idiot complained. He has done it for more guys and Jim McCarthy wrote about it in the FOP newsletter, but the haters will never stop
