A number of the individuals accused by the now-suspended president of the Lodge held a press conference and asked that he step down and apologize:
- Fraternal Order of Police representatives are calling on their president to resign.
Union leaders took the unusual step of calling a news conference tonight asking their boss to step down and apologize for his actions.
This comes after FOP president Mike Shields made explosive allegations that the last two police contracts dictated by an independent arbitrator were fixed in favor of the city, and that the recent sergeants contract may have been rigged.
In a letter to the city’s inspector general, Shields accuses union rivals of making backroom deals.
The group says if Shields refuses to resign, their board will take action against him.
They come off as being calm while the president comes off as a lunatic - did anyone catch his picture on the NBC site?

back in late 90's an industrious bunch ran around showing financial statements proving that the FOP under the leadership of Nolan et.al were stealing money and misrepresenting the membership. You know what happened? Nothing, the members voted the same idiots back in.
That process continued under our "lobbyist" wagon-guy Donahue and now that Mikey was snubbed and his toys taken away, the same underlying problem will continue, members with STM loss will again vote in the same group of people.
Pathetic. They should require all meetings, interviews, calls etc be taped from these any any elected official and posted for public review.
We have none to blame but ourselves.

State president Ted Street said Mike Shields should step down. John Dineen- former lodge 7 president and National President along with national parliamentarian - stated at the meeting that this was an illegal action. Why are the CityWide team so afraid of Shields? It makes me believe everything in that newspaper article.
Why does Street want to stick his nose in this? Chicago never sends a lot of people to the state convention. Because of that the State Troopers outnumbered us at the last convention. Next years state convention is in Metropolis Il. Mark Donahue - as was related to me - made a motion yesterday to send up 300 coppers to the state convention and pay for hotel rooms for them. That is what the CityWide team promised Ted Street.
I left the meeting tonight when they started to draw ballots. But I got a text that Mark Donahue draw a ballot for trustee? IF that is true then NO ONE should vote for any ticket he is on. He fucked me out of 6.1% raise and my pension will be lowered because of it too. May these f-ing backstabbing assholes all rot in hell.
Maybe Shields needs whistleblower status until the election to he can let all of the dirty secrets out of the closet.

You hit it on the target. We have no one to blame but ourselves. We can make changes, if we step up to the plate and act together as a union. But too many people bitch and complain but won't do anything.
I am not a big fan of mike but I believe him. The corruption in CPD and the FOP is out of control and someone needs to nip it in the bud. Not sure how mile thought this would help him win an election. Doubt he will serve again bit if he know about corruption he should speak out.
I filed a complaint with the Illinois Attorney General's Charity Div which showed the financials submitted by Mark Donahue were understated. An investigation by the AG required FOP to amend the report 3 times and the incomes of Donahue and Plienes increased dramatically. The result in order not to show the true incomes of Donahue and Plienes FOP is no longer listed as a Charitable Organization by the State Of Illinois and I have been removed from FOP Lodge 7 since 2005.
I have filed charges with the Illinois Labor Board and FOP has returned over $2,000.00 and a hearing for additional sanctions is pending stand by. My advice unless changes are made at the board request to become fair share member your dues will be reduced to $24.00 a month.

This is such an embarrassment. As much as we all know that there really isn't much we can do to change the public's negative perception of police, we have to recognize that it makes a huge difference when it comes to contract negotiations. When all of this playground, back-stabbing, name calling ridiculousness finally comes to a head publicly, we will be in a bigger hole than ever before. Any copper, let alone an FOP PRESIDENT should realize that. But why the hell would Shields care? He's going to move on to a better job when he is run out of this one. Contracts will be meaningless to him. Why would he be going through all of this then? Sort of an "if I'm going down I'm taking everyone with me" situation. Granted, if there was corruption going on with past administrations, the issue should not be swept under the rug. But Mike knows this is not the right way to deal with it.
Now we need to see where the chips are going to land and for once, come together and make decisions about our leadership that are informed and not based on some high school style popularity contest. All of us are too quick to listen to the opinions of others. We are told "He's a good guy" from a buddy, so we let that sway our votes. How about we all do a little digging into anyone who plans on running for FOP positions, make informed decisions on our own, and then come together to place the right people into the spots. I know, it's asking a lot. But fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice....

Well the State Lodge has authority I believe since we fall under their charter BUT the timing was pure stupidity. That shit show should have waited till the end of the meeting after business was concluded so that it didnt turn into the distraction it did. It will end up in court which is further expense and time wasted which only means the contract will drag out even longer now after Shields just called out the regular abritrators, none of who will want anything to do with union dealings now. Hopefully they are all out in April and if it turns out Shields had no evidence than the words of a sketchy lawyer with his own problems, then the new board can vote to toss him out of the Lodge and make him a fair share guy.

Why don't we look into dropping the FOP and look into joining another union? I know critics may say we are in the middle of contract negotiations why the hell would we do that. The reason I say this is if any of these allegations are true we need to clean house all the way to the top. What other way to do it that to join the pba or something?

well well well. Do I finally get my whistleblower lawsuit now??? about a year and a half ago I contacted several people at the fop, city and IGs office claiming that there was corruption in our last contract. Im not a fop rep or assigned there. Im a police officer who is very knowledgeable about the contracts and I spoke to some people who work for the city (not police) who deal with all of the city contracts. I filed formal complaints after I found out the info and began to make a stink about it. I had a formal sitdown meeting with members of the FOP board. It did not go well when I presented my issues and complaint of what I knew. Next period I was dumped from my unit and went to 003 on midnights. I got along great with my sgt and Lt. I did what I was always supposed to do and was seen as a good worker. I was never counseled or talked to about any issues of my 5 years in my unit then 9 days after my meeting when the transfer order for the period came out I was on it. Guess I was right after all and was punished for speaking out... and by the way, my claims were all "unfounded".. hmmmmm, but why did I get dumped then?????

back in late 90's an industrious bunch ran around showing financial statements proving that the FOP under the leadership of Nolan et.al were stealing money and misrepresenting the membership. You know what happened? Nothing, the members voted the same idiots back in.
That process continued under our "lobbyist" wagon-guy Donahue and now that Mikey was snubbed and his toys taken away, the same underlying problem will continue, members with STM loss will again vote in the same group of people.
Pathetic. They should require all meetings, interviews, calls etc be taped from these any any elected official and posted for public review.
We have none to blame but ourselves.

Wow and the rest there are fields reps who won't be returning next year have already announced it were there too(sal, Jim, and danny gorman who won't run due to this being too emotional for him) Should we just write a check now for a couple of millions to Mike Shield? Because the lawsuits with whistleblowers have cost organizations millions of dollars. Since the whole focus has been this last few months to get him thrown out with various degrees of false charges by Mark and Bill with the rest of citywide team at the FOP, Mike will have a great whistle blower lawsuit on is hands. Maybe I can help him find a lawyer to get the referral bonus.

Mike pulled a desperate move and alienated himself in his most recent actions and unfortunately I think that it is going to get way worse for him in the future and way more things are going to come to surface which will make MIke even worse then he does now. I can say he has a very vindictive personality and people have been harmed badly by his actions and it is only beginning to get back to him now and we have not even scratched the surface.

Fop should be ran by a retired sgt or above. somebody who is still a dues paying member but wouldn't be effected by a contact, retirement benefits etc.

Looking at my brand new fop book I am looking at the Board of Directors. It’s very hard to find anyone that I would vote for. No heros here. Shields couldn’t play by big boys rules and the mob ate him alive. But do you want the mob in power either? What is in those emails between the city and Tom Pleines who was our labor attorney during the last three contracts? What makes those City-Wide guys so afraid?
Shields fired Pleines as soon as he took office. Pleines was such a thorn in the city’s side that they hired him for a while. Then the Sgt’s Assoc. hired Pleines. Pleines and Rahm’s friend “Jim” Ade brokered the contract proposal that the non-meritorious Sgt’s voted down.
Shields said the last two contacts were fixed as was this last Sgt’s. I disagree with Shields in that I think the last three fop contracts were predetermined.
Shields should resign because the state hearing is fixed with Ted Street - Mark Donahue’s reach around partner - from Springfield. Then when we get it stuck up ours and get that same piece of shit that the Sgt’s just took we’ll know Shields was right. Maybe Shields will have big boy pants in three years and will run again. But the only way he could run and win if the mob fucks this next contract up. The next contract will be our most important one because of the assault on on pensions and health care not one year of retro. And it looks like the sellouts from the last two will be the ones sitting at the table with the city.
I predict that the city gives us retro pay to make the CityWide sellouts look good but they take back at least three times that in health care costs. So if you get 1.25% retro but have to pay 4.% more for health care we still lose.

Im not a fop rep or assigned there. What happens when you're represented by any entity that represents other employees is YOU GET USED AS LEVERAGE AGAINST OTHER EMPLOYEES FOR BETTER CONTRACTS FOR OTHER PEOPLE.

Teamsters is a no-no. U aint driving a UPS truck then stay away from them. It's generational. My old man's department hated them and got rid of them..then I followed suit. Never saw or heard from them till they found out we were done. Then they're in the break room trying to shake hands.

Will someone post who has stuck with Shields this whole time until yesterday please? I want to know so I never vote for them in the next election. Shields actions are purely selfish and self motivated and are truly self destructive. His world has crashed. I personally have known mike well for the past 10 years and have had a falling out since he was elected President and I can honestly say his head swelled up once he took office. I removed myself from him but would see him here and there and he has been one of the most arrogant guys when I would see him. He thought he was way to smart for his own kind and I knew this day was going to happen. It is sad because he could of done alot of good for us in his position. Mike truly let me down and and the rest of our Union. As a Union President you need to get along with people and form relationships and right from the start he rubbed people in a bad way. He could not forge his position as a leader the proper way and he always had a awkwardness about him in his dealings with others. Mike pulled a desperate move and alienated himself in his most recent actions and unfortunately I think that it is going to get way worse for him in the future and way more things are going to come to surface which will make MIke even worse then he does now. I can say he has a very vindictive personality and people have been harmed badly by his actions and it is only beginning to get back to him now and we have not even scratched the surface.

It would be easier to tell you who did not side with Shields as the majority of the board belonged to Shields, this is one of the major reasons we are in this mess. Even when he hand picked his own jury on charges brought by another officer, the charges dismissed, again the majority that is 14 members of the board always sided with Shields and never varied or used their own minds to consider what is right or morally and ethically correct. Most recently at the last board meeting a motion made to have Shields send a letter of retraction still unbelievably four of the board members and Shields voted NO, so he did loose 10 of his loyal members who have seen some light. It is possible he has a spell cast over them or incriminating whatever to hold their loyalty.

I think you are missing the difference between expressing your thoughts on the corruption in the city of chicago on a blog or venting it to your co-workers AND writing a letter to the IG which gets published in the Sun-Times and not presenting any proof.
I hope he does have proof, I'm no enemy of Mike. But if he doesn't have proof, he comes off as a fool AND that is what makes all of us look like fools because the majority of us elected him.

His first mistake wasn't the botched paper filing, it was picking fights with people who look at he and this union like a tiny little ant. If CPS and that psycho Karen Lewis can hammer out a deal after all of the trash talked in the paper, then we and this union and the heads of it should be able to get a deal done. The first thing a leader does is keep friends close but enemies closer. This is a game that none of these jamoke's know how to play, and I'm sorry to say that the score reflects us getting shut out and our rear-ends kicked. Shields is a good guy, has done a lot to help the union and on the pension side. He would call for the books to be opened to reflect the ineptness of the idiots who run it, but of course the mayor's handpicked people always would vote that down. This whole thing has played out like an HBO movie, a rise and fast fall. But at the end of the day, we all get hosed. And a new group will come in with the same old agendas... This is gonna drag on forever. Unless Mike has legitimate proof, but I doubt that and the only smart thing these people do is cover their tracks...

Well the main point is YES we all have mumbled such things over the years, BUT he is the President and face of the lodge (was I mean). You dont make such wild statements without proof first and he has provided NOTHING but the supposed ramblings of a disgraced lawyer who should have his contract terminated immediately as well. A President is supposed to solve problems not create more and especially at a time like this where he has already screwed up so badly more than once, but refused to accept responsibility. Notice a trend here??? Also his reasoning holds little water because when I asked him directly why he waited 9 months to bring up such explosive alegations, his reply was it wasnt the right time originally because it would have harmed the union and only when the arbitrator ruled the 2% payment for healthcare in the SGT contract, was he forced to break his silence to overt the same from happening to us since it was likely we are headed for arbitration as well. SO by his own words it was at the good of the lodge to be silent we have been soldout till there was no other choice BUT there were important arbitrations going on and decided in that same timeframe that have direct effect on each and everyone of us daily that were decided by the same people and he didnt deem that important enough to break his silence. Uterly ridiculous and anyone who defends his actions and subsequent behavior is just blind and doesnt want to hear the truth.
So I WILL agree this was a powerplay and payback by Donahue and by association the rest of the reps up there, but Mike gave them the rope to hang him with. He should have stayed at the pension board where he did a great job and was most effective. As for the rest of the "corrupt" fools left behind on the 3rd floor....well thats what elections are for and I for 1 have changed my tune and in in the camp that they all need to go because the water is to tainted at this point.
