Concealed Carry per Capita

  • In small towns Downstate, murders may happen once every 50 to 100 years, if that frequently, and the worst crimes might be a meth lab getting busted or someone driving away from a gasoline pump without paying.

Yet, these extremely low-crime pockets of the state are precisely where people appear to be lining up the fastest to apply for state permits to carry concealed handguns, according to a Chicago Sun-Times analysis of concealed-carry applications submitted so far to the Illinois State Police.

By contrast, in Cook County, gun owners appear to be moving the slowest to apply for the concealed-carry permits, causing the state’s most populous county to rank dead last of all 102 Illinois counties on a per capita basis, data shows.
There's a graphic at the Sun Times website, but it's tiny and almost unreadable:

Maybe you can get a better view at the source page at this link here. In any event, although Cook has the most applications, per capita, we're dead last.

  • More than 1,000 requests for concealed carry gun permits are pouring in each day in the nation’s last state to allow the practice, sparking concerns among Illinois law enforcement officials that they might fall behind on weeding out applicants with a history of violence.

The Cook County Sheriff’s office says it already has identified about 120 applications it plans to contest since the online application process was opened to most state residents Jan. 5. Chicago Police Department officials, locked in a battle to control high-profile gang violence, say they, too, are worried about keeping up with the flood of applications, while downstate sheriff’s departments said they might not have the capacity to meet the new law’s vetting requirement in the time allowed.
That's going to be your next bottleneck - Dart and McJersey using the 30-day objection process and the subsequent 90-day investigatory window to again delay the exercise of a guaranteed Right.

And, to add insult to injury, once someone in Cook Co., is investigated and approved for a CC permit, they will be unable to buy a handgun, because there are no gun stores in the co. Despite the lack of gun stores, I bet if one goes to the right street corner or back alley, they will be able to purchase a pistol and ammo.

The problem is that the good God fearing residents of Crook County know they will have to go through more hoops that the entire nation combined. None are looking forward to the ass reaming this has taken on and why rush to be told hang on another 6 months.

Cook County, especially Chicago, is a dumbocratic bastion. The residents either

1: don't believe in having guns

2: Can't pass the background check.

3: Can't find a training class that they can pay for with their LINK card.

we ask how's the vetting process going for the illegal immigrants that want illinois drivers licenses.

no problemo there eh.

terrorist, felons, cartel members. come on down. no background check required. no-one 'concerned for your safety'

yep, this backlog can be handled just fine. don't you worry about anyone slipping thru the cracks here.

If I, as a civilian, already have an FOID card, WHY do I need a permit for concealed carry to exercise a Constitutionally Guaranteed right?

I own several properties in some not too bad areas, but still have some risk. Why can't I go to my properties and work on them as needed with a concealed weapon unless I have the long delayed permit?

Sheriff Fart has already identified 120 applicants whom he deems unworthy to hold a CC permit?

But, but, at the time he said it only 105 people from Cook had applied.

Off topic. The upcoming governors race. Madigan will still run the state so the only thing Rauner will be allowed to do by the real leadership is destroy our pension. Quinn is a fool but he is the least threat to our pension. The democrats want Rauner so he can be blamed by them and the unions as the man who tanked the pension. As far as all of Rauner's other promises, Madigan and the democrats will still run the state.

The numbers could be explained by cost. It is about $100 cheaper to get the 16hrs and range time training south of 80.
$200-300 16hrs
$40 on ammo for range
$20 range fee
$NA finger printing (factor in time to go there as well)
$150 for the permit itself.

You are looking at a minimum of $400 for everything.

No FOID needed to own, possess a firearm, ammunition like most states.
FOID card to carry concealed or partially concealed or openly.
Carry allowed everywhere, except sensitive places such as jails, police stations, mental health facilities.
No bar for felons, unless convicted of violent crimes.....

Well, look at it from THIS perspective...

Over the last 40+ years, the Cook County & Chicago electorate has been so diluted, dumbed down, kept in the dark and fed the most concentrated and potent political bullshit with the assist of a shameless, decaying alive, reeking and leaking anal whore media, that they're wholly unable to think for themselves or assert their rights/exercise the full duties of awake and aware full fledged citizens of this republic?

An Exasperated Exhalation:
(PFFFT!)

The Fart-Noise of Disdain:
(Well... You know...)

The Universally Known & Accepted Eye-Roll of Contempt:
(Well... You know...)

Concealed Carry = The leveling of the playing field in the arenas of life and politics by making the intentional and conscious decision to be armed to protect and defend one's self and the persons and things that one values against assorted violations and outrages that one/some individual(s) would seek to inflict on others under varying colors of privilege implied, inferred or otherwise...

>Stands back. Admires work...<

Being an armed citizen is equated with being able to fight back.

The Nanny-Statist/Yellow-Pinky Gun Snatcher narrative is that "fighting back" is bad, wrong and is the province of mean, angry, racist, hateful, bitterly clinging, longing for 1960 "conservative" types.

You wild assed, out of control, heavy-fisted, fast driving too old & too expensive, union member, sweet pension having, early retirement taking (How DARE you try to flee from US!) seem to embody "fighting back."

Why do you think you've been so specifically targeted here in Chicago?

Amusing... All of the so called investigative reporting talent in Chicago is joyfully rifling through the proverbial panty drawer of the Police while willfully ignoring the theft of Billions by the recent past and present political administrations.

Something.
Is so fundamentally wrong in this town.

Cook County leading concealed carry applications

31 minutes ago • Associated Press

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. | Illinois State Police say almost one in four of the roughly 23,000 people who’ve applied for concealed carry permits live in Cook County.

Figures released this week show the highly populated county leading the rankings with more than 5,300 applications that have been filed since Jan. 5.

Will and DuPage counties followed in second and third with almost 1,800 and 1,600 applications respectively.

But on a per capita basis, rural counties have the highest proportion of applicants.

Yes, excellent comment.

And the reason there's no problem with processing licenses for illegals is because the licenses will bring them one more step closer to being able to vote.

And guess who they'll be voting for.....

There is at least one gun shop/range in Crook County - Maxon's Shooter in Des Plaines, which moved to a new, larger facility within the past year. I'm suburban Cook and go out to On Target in Crystal Lake as I want to give as little sales tax to Crook County as possible.

I'm a squeaky clean woman who got fingerprints for my IL CCW permit. Less chance for any delays. I passed a work related Homeland Security background check last year for something you're not approved for if you have any arrests. I'm just waiting for Lawn Jart to object to me...

City resident here and not a LEO. I got my FOID a few months ago and researched training. But I've since decided to just bag this whole place. Plans are in motion to move out of state in the next few months. I'll pursue a concealed carry permit once I get to my next stop. In the meantime, many thanks to the LEO's out there! Business and Consumer Affairs came out with this email yesterday, it reads:

Requirements for Conceal and Carry Signage

Click on the image to download the sign from the State Police.
Owners of any statutorily prohibited area or private property, excluding residences, where the owner prohibits the carrying of firearms must clearly and conspicuously post the Illinois State Police approved sign, in accordance with Firearm Concealed Carry Act, at the entrance of the building, premises or real property. Please refer to Section 65 (Prohibited Areas) of the Firearm Concealed Carry Act for more information on statutory requirements for signage as well as where concealed weapons are prohibited.

Pursuant to Section 65(d) of the Firearm Concealed Carry Act, signs must be of a uniform design and the Illinois State Police is responsible for adopting rules for standardized signs. The Illinois State Police has proposed rules which require a white background; no text (except the reference to the Illinois Code 430 ILCS 66/1) or marking within the one-inch area surrounding the graphic design; a depiction of a handgun in black ink with a circle around and diagonal slash across the firearm in red ink; and that the circle be four inches in diameter. The sign in its entirety will measure four inches by six inches.

Please also be advised that pursuant to 4-60-140(k) of the Chicago Municipal Code, all consumption on premises liquor licensee's, including any officer, associate, member, representative, agent or employee, are prohibited from allowing -> any <- person to carry a concealed firearm on the licensed premises.

With all the restrictions, you can not carry a gun anywhere and in most of the places where you need it the most, the subway.

Three things here:

1) The Cook Co. residents aren't applying because they've been brainwashed for the past 40 years that they have no right (and because of the brainwashing, no desire) to rise up and protect themselves.

2) The thing that Toupee Tommy and the Streetlight slayer understand that they won't tell the public is that there are records that ISP doesn't have because they were never submitted to LEADS. It will be the city's or county's fault if an otherwise prohibited person gets a gun because of decades of shitty record keeping of both agencies.

3. The preference to keep poor and defenseless people poor and defenseless runs high in Chicago. If the people who needed to most stood up and could legally shoot back, we'd need fewer cops and the 5th floor would have less power.
