Rauner Steps in it Again
Has anyone seen the commercials running lately for this goof?
There's a whole series of them on YouTube, but we aren't linking to them. The one we saw has Rauner lambasting the government unions and "...career politicians bought and paid for."
Guess who's doing the buying?

- After pulling strings to get his daughter into Walter Payton College Prep, Bruce Rauner, a Republican candidate for governor, became one of the elite Chicago public high school’s biggest benefactors.
The Rauner Family Foundation gave $250,000 to the Payton Prep Initiative for Education on Dec. 14, 2009 — about a year and a half after Rauner called then-Chicago Public Schools CEO Arne Duncan to overturn his daughter’s rejection for admission, records examined by the Chicago Sun-Times reveal.
Rauner’s gift was the largest the not-for-profit foundation had received up to that point. It amounts to nearly 30 percent of all the money the group has gotten during its first five years, according to records the Rauner and Payton charities have filed with the state.
When you're a billionaire many times over, we guess you can forget about a measly quarter million given away as a quid pro quo. And that wasn't even the smallest amount of pocket change Bruce gave:
- Rauner’s gift to the Payton Prep Initiative came two months after his foundation gave $500,000 to the Chicago Public Schools Foundation, run by the school system’s top administrators. His foundation previously had given money to that organization.
Rauner, a venture capitalist, called Chicago school officials in early 2008. Within days, his daughter was admitted to Payton for the 2008-09 academic year by the school’s principal, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The gubernatorial hopeful has said little about his daughter’s admission to Payton, dismissing it as “stuff that doesn’t matter.”
But it kind of does matter when you're running for office, supposedly when you're participating in the very things that you claim to be campaigning against. This guy is unreal.

What, did she have a crush on some kid who was going to Payton? Couldn't he have bought himself a whole damn school for what he paid to get his daughter into this one.
Okay, maybe not a school, but he sure could have paid a really good tutor or two to home school her.
a win-win for rahm, madigan, burke, the dnc.
if he does well in the polls they win. if it looks like a failure that's okay too as you just trash the gop parry the best you can on the way down.
look at those evil republicans eh..
a dog and pony show with the gop infiltrated. reminds me of the pysch ops just like in iraq.
SHEEP media will never ask the questions, Rauner said his daughter was qualified but couldn't get in.......yet magically got in. The media needs to ask which kid didn't get in because Rauners kid got in?
Dick Divine's son is the principal at Walter Payton.
He's not my choice for governor and not credible as a republican, but...
griping about a wealthy local businessman who actually wants (for some reason) to send his kid to a public school and essentially pays top dollar for it?
Isn't that the opposite of what the usual brood of vipers is prone to doing in this town?
Anybody body else you know paying $750,000
to attend a Chicago public school?
And expecting whatin return, exactly?
For his daughter to go to Payton?
Any other phone callbabies paying that kinda money?
Not anything to disqualify him, at least not this...
It's not like this makes or breaks his ability to run.
Still don't trust him, won't vote for him, but this is silly.
And how is what he did any worse, or different, than what some democrat has done?
How is it any worse than our Dear Leader in Washington D.C.?
Ya ok vote for Quinn
I hate to agree with this clown, but he is right, it "doesn't matter." Look at Rhambo's decision to send his kids to a private school. He told reporters who asked it was a family matter he refused to discuss, --- and by golly, the press, quietly let it drop! So, in the long run he's right, it doesn't matter, to most Chicago voters anyway,
Rauner always makes assertions about how the teachers union is public enemy number 1. Yet he used all his clout to call Arnie Duncan and paid $250,000 to get his daughter into a school where the teachers are members of the same union he campaigns against ?
For all that money he could have sent his daughter to Loyola!
(OT) hey SCC does anyone know how many are running for fop president? How many teams? I know there is the citywide team with Doherty at the helm, and the cleanslate7 team with McDonough both teams are recycled same old. City wide is same guys there plus a few extra, clean slate (lol) when you read what they are about say they are all new but nope they are guys that were force out from fop hierarchy and others still there!
What choices do we have? This is important when we are going into a contract that is over 2 years expired obviously acting fop president Doherty is not doing anything, why is contract not in arbitration? The arbitrator would be hard pressed not to give us the same as sergeants and lieutenant including the controversial year of back pay!
What are the qualifications of each person running, that we should vote for them? When and if they campaign in our districts units, ask the hard questions, about pension, health care, watch assignments, merit, and anything else that concerns us as the brotherhood do Cpd!
Lastly thank you to the blog moderators that work tirelessly to keep this forum open, your really doing a service to the working copper!
Ya ok vote for Quinn
You do realize there's a primary and there are 3 or 4 republicans running before they face off against Quinn?
Anyone else wondering why the media who loves Rahm and Oblama hate Rauner? Just saying. The enemy of my enemy....
I think anyone of us would do the same thing for our children<what else is as important to us as our kids.
So he is looking out for his own child and this is bad? Buying her into a PUBLIC SCHOOL is a crime? She may have aced out a single student who was more qualified but her old man paid top dollar to do so. I would do it too if I had his money but I chose a profession I knew would never make me financially rich.
Tim Devine wasn't the principal in 2008. My kid went to Payton at the same time and never heard of a student with the last name Rauner. Did she use her mom's last name? They have very limited enrollment, so it's pretty unusual not to at least have heard of her. The pres of the school board's kid went there at the same time.
Sox fan Willie says : Rauner and the " Rahmunist " would be a nightmare . Quinn is an embarrassment, with his purple shirts and ties, ( an obvious shoutout to the SEIU ), but Rauner has serious disdain for us non millionaires.
Dan Rutherford is the only R that beats Quinn in polling. That's who I'm voting for.
WOW!!!!
Looks like Robert Feder did a MAJOR BALL BUSTING on Savini

CBS 2 still stonewalling on Savini
posted on January 13, 2014 at 9:00 am by Robert Feder
It’s been more than a week since longtime Chicago investigative reporter Dave Savini was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, battery, child endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident in west suburban Naperville.
But CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2, where Savini, 47, has been a prominent figure since 2004, hasn’t said a word about it on any of its newscasts or on its website. Nor has the station issued any statement since court documents showed Savini’s blood-alcohol level registered 0.134 after he failed field tests and admitting consuming alcohol in the early hours of Jan 4.
Over the weekend I reached out to Marty Wilke, president and general manager of CBS 2, to ask her to comment on the matter and to clarify Savini’s employment status while he awaits a Jan. 21 court date. I told her I believed the matter was serious enough to deserve a response from her personally. I’d always admired Wilke’s openness when she was general manager of Tribune Broadcasting WGN-Channel 9 before she joined CBS 2 in 2012 and totally clammed up.
I never heard back from her.
Instead I received the following email message from a spokeswoman for CBS 2: “At this time, we have declined all requests for comment and are referring all press inquiries to Dave’s attorney.” (Never mind that when the Chicago Tribune called Savini’s attorney, Terry Ekl, he refused to comment.)
It strikes me as the height of hypocrisy for a station that demands answers from everyone else not to respond to legitimate inquiries about one of its own employees.
Remember that the next time you see Savini, in all his self-righteous arrogance, chasing after some unwitting target who doesn’t want to talk to him. Or the next time CBS 2 makes a big deal about a minor celebrity who gets in trouble.
“Original Reporting” my ass.

Well we need a change and I agree totally that most union leaders look out for their own best interests and not always that of their members. A republican is needed in Springfield, lord knows how it's been with a democrat at the helm.
It's his money. He can waste it any way he wants.
Politicians, Republicans or Democrats are all ATYPICAL... crooks, some are just more colorful in their behavior
Ya ok vote for Quinn
1/14/2014 03:54:00 AM
Ya, fucking A right I'll vote for Quinn over Rauner. We may not like Quinn, but Rauner is the enemy of anyone who belongs to a union. If you vote for him, than your a dupe and a fool.
Would you prefer Quinn?
Seriously, this guy is the closest thing I've seen to a electable candidate in Illinois who comes CLOSE to being a republican.
RINO? Maybe. Better than Quinn? DEFINITELY.
Gee, makes me feel a little better about working 2 jobs to send my 3 kids to Brother Rice. I love how these fucking douchebag millionaires send their kids to public schools so they can appear to be more in touch with us "common folk" when all they're doing is keeping a more deserving kid from attending a decent school.
Who cares? The point is, Rauner is not a Republican, and he certainly is not the answer to those of us who want to change the political cabal ruining Illinois.

Well deserved, no doubt. Worked his way up, pulled himself up by his bootstraps. Then worldwide search followed by competitive exam. Then the phone call came and there was the new principal. Good thing there was no clout involved.
I believe Rauner was promoted as front runner to fail. The demonrats are an aristocracy in Illinois (and the nation). Too much public money trading hands without accountability. Too much political regulation and considerations with the goal of affording special privileges to the campaign contributors and selected few. It’s a criminal cartel by definition linking elected representatives, the courts, all the investigating agencies under direct intervention and direct guidance of elected officials , bureaucracies such as the school system, connected contractors such as Walsh construction et al., special interest monies, political appointments just too name a few. Lots of Racateering and Corrupt Organizations (R.I.C.O.) behaviors in Illinois politics. As the powerless middle class is taxed and regulated into submission, the political elites are making money off the books and amassing their personal financial empires. Rauner was elevated to the front. The next part of this strategy is to destroy him and to disillusion the voters who will vote in opposition to any and all the demonrat candidates.
It just goes to show that "All politicians suck, big time.
He's a RINO.
All our Illinois politicians only have the citizens best interest as their top priority. That is why many of them spend $100,000's on their own money for a $80,000 a year job. They really want to help the us.
And how is what he did any worse, or different, than what some democrat has done?
1/14/2014 01:34:00 AM
Refreshing to see another visionary missed the point.
There is nothing wrong with helping your kids get into a good school. You would do the same. This guy could have put his kids into any private prep school in the country, so I don't see the problem. What I do see is there is no alternative; either this guy or Quinn. Rauner is a target of the unions as they see him breaking their power grip on Springfield. Quinn, the " man of the people" has run off of the rails.
The rich should get everything they want and the rest of us should take less pay, less benefits, and less pensions. This has become the new American way.
And Devine's kid worked at Northside College Prep before he became Payton's principal. It pays to be connected, the rest of us can just go scratch.
Of course if you listen to Roe Conn yesterday, he has -0- problems with this. It is sorta like someone with a 100k salary making a 500 dollar contribution to the school... same ratio to income
right.
This guy has two rules. One for him and the clouted guys. One for the rest of the schlubs.
A public education must be very important to a billionaire that he would give $250,000 to overturn a decision that excluded his daughter in a not that great Chicago Public School
What is wrong with Francis Parker, the Latin School, University High High Schools or the other private schools that are for the very rich.
I hate Rauner, hope he loses but Ald Beale clouted his unqualified daughter into Whitney Young. No one cares about that. I'm guessing Ald Beale's check is still in the mail.
Yeah Rauner is another political pasty for Rahm. Quinn isn't much of a good choice either, but keep in mind, Quinn has done far more for veterans then any other politician in this state or across the nation. Quinn is bad for my financial future, but so is Rauner. If it comes down to these two boobs, Im voting for the guy who supports vets.
his daughter was smart enough - she was kept out because she was absent a lot - bit they say she was smart enough - that's good enough for me
SCC, why is this news on your blog? Really, I don't see why this is news and in the media. This is the Chicago Way and it will not change. Its all about who you know... just like the merit process you posted yesterday.
Im not a fan of Rauner, nor will I vote or him, but I don't see why this is news. A totally waste of time. The flip flopping on minimum wage is news.
thanks for listening.
Right, let's continue to vote for Democrats. That's working well. LOL.
Another term for the potato-head. Progressive income tax, let's jack it another 100 percent and "reform" pensions while we do it.
You do realize there's a primary and there are 3 or 4 republicans running before they face off against Quinn?
1/14/2014 07:25:00 AM
You do realize that only Democrats are allowed to escape other Democrats, or even their own behavior by the corrupt media? This will be used to tar any anti-democrat candidate that trys to run.
So odd that a billionaire would want to send his kid to a public school.
He could have sent her to New Trier, Loyola, North Shore Country Day, Lake Forest Academy,,,,,all excellent-top notch college prep schools
The big question is how does a filthy rich kid from Winnetka, get to take a spot (even if tuition is paid) from a deserving city resident that can't go to Latin, Parker, U-High or the aforementioned private schools.
This is wrong, plain wrong
Please remember folks all of these "donations" are tax deductable. He isn't giving anything to any one. This jerk is as bad as the people he talks about. And to top it off he is best pals with our beloved mayor. Enough said.
If he wants to give a quarter million to get his daughter in to a school, that's OK for everyone but the kid that didn't get to go to Payton because his daughter took their spot.
Is that OK?

Agreed I second this motion and a question lets play guess which copper running had a baby with another copper while he was married and did not pay child support what slate is he on when this is revealed will it torpedo this pathetic slate? Things in the past are still there be careful about throwing stones the circle of life!
This guy Rauner ought to do just fine. He lies like all the others and can't keep his story straight and lives by clout while denying it and is all about money. What's not to like? He'll fit right in.

Yeah, because things have been so great under this unqualified buffoon. How did you like that 67% income tax increase? Doubling of tolls? Illinois is the worst state (or near the bottom) for job creation, unemployment, underwater mortgages, unfunded pensions, and credit rating. Where the fuck have you been the last 4 years? Must not have been here. All the problems in this state and this fucking stooge's signature piece of legislation is gay marriage??? Seriously??? Union or non union the only people benefiting under this fucking moron are uneducated, unmotivated assholes with their hands out. For people who wonder how the hell Obama got elected twice they don't need to look any further than clueless dumb fucks like you. Do the rest of us a favor and stay home on Election Day.
so, here's the potential choice(s): 1) Quinn; 2) Rauner (if he's the candidate); 3) sit it out, don't vote......so, then....what?
Yeah right, a quarter million $ had nothing to do with it, we all know how politicians don't like money!
And Bernie baby owner, no jail time after paying the government almost 60 million.
Our legal system is fair to all, is it?
It is important to note that the criteria for admission to the selective enrollment high schools changed in 2010 and Rauner's daughter was there before this time. Prior to 2010, enrollment was based upon test scores and racial quotas. The courts ruled against this and starting in 2010 the admissions criteria was test scores and census tract data (the four tier system). The racial make-up of the selective enrollment schools changed. Also in 2010, the principal's discretionary selections were severely scrutinized. Before this time, many relatives of aldercreatures made their way into Whitney Young, Payton, Northside and Jones through the principal's discretionary selection, but where is the media outrage that an aldercreature's relative displaced some other worthy student? I would wager that Rauner's daughter was better qualified academically than most of these discretionary picks.
Who really gives a crap, a few years ago an alderman or some politician gave college scholarships to their own kids , relatives , not the poor kids in neighborhood.
Effective January 1, 2014, the water rate will increase by 15% and the sewer rate will increase from 92% to 96% of the water charge. The metered water charge will be $3.32 per 1,000 gallons (or $24.80 per 1,000 cubic feet
My bill broke $500 for an unmetered account. Its all about the children, just not my children. Mayor Darth Twinklefarts will be buying more malasian shrimp on my dime....

My kid got denied to selective enrollment school because of all the half-brains in "lower tier" zip codes taking up spots.
Ask teachers. They'll privately admit that, once again, the last vestige of decent schools are cowering to public pressure by the usual complainers and takers.
This means that even the likes of the Paytons and Northside Preps in this town are on borrowed time as kids allowed in by preference to their low-income start to expect lower standards.
If my choice is Quinn and Rauner?
Not a choice. Denied any democratic choice like they do in puppet regimes run by fascists.
You think Quinn is a choice?
Quinn isn't out there championing anything different when it comes to changing the terms of your pension.
He's ready to sign anything the machine puts in front of him to get back to regular business in this State: Borrowing more money, raising more tax dollars, and then wasting on more programs for the sub-human element that subsist on the subsidies that rain down through countless middle men agencies that keep the whole sham growing.
Obama and Emmanuel, and all their dutiful minions here in this town who all get 6 figure salaries and pensions will continue to get elected with this formula.
Because the real enemy is the scary monster known as "the rich" and that horrible, racist "tea-party."
Not the guy mobilizing the state's power with a deathgrip on the constitution, expanding executive power, unilaterally implementing or arbitrarily modifying laws at his whim...

Look at what happened in other rust belt states that elected a Republican anti labor governor. Municipal workers lost collective bargaining, union police officers got fucked big time as did all public workers. Ask cops there now how they like their beloved Republicans.
As much as we might dislike a Democrat, especially Gov. Buffoon, we have to vote on one issue, what is better for us as municipal workers and police officers. That is it, little else matters.

You say the Republicans have screwed the police unions, site examples. You can't.
What Wisconsin and some other places have done to teachers unions has been fine with me. Look at their benefits. All they have done is bring them a little closer to reality, stll a long way to go. Look at the socialists and other wackadoos that run these teacher unions. Do you really want to be lumped in with them?
I am voting for the furthest thing from what we have now. No great choices here, but I am not sticking with status quo. NO WAY!

Right on the money.
Everyone has big talk when it comes to pointing the finger at someone else. Then these very same people pointing their claws turn around and do whatever they want. Usually committing the same dirty deeds they were just lambasting with their heated breathe. So typical that these double standard hypocrites can't see the wrong doings they're trying to get away with. Maybe they'll be able to see a lot clearer if they removed their crooked fingers from pointing out other peoples missteps and started practicing what they are obviously ignoring within themselves....Do as you want others to do!!!!!!!
The more I see of this Guy, the Less I like him. He's just another Connected, Clouted Millionaire. We need a Tea-Party Endorsed Candidate to run for Gov. in Illinois, like NOW. Then we need to get behind them, 100%, and hope the Election isn't rigged, AGAIN.

Who said it was?
Rauner isn't the best candidate in the world and he's far from who I would like to see as governor, but if he's the republican nominee I would rather roll the dice and take my chances with him rather than go with a known moron with a track record of being a complete fuck up like Quinn. Until there are more jobs and people paying taxes things aren't going to improve for those of us in the public sector. Quinn has done nothing for police and nothing for unions so fuck him.
He stated he wants all yes all public employees without pension throw all into 401 k he wins we lose! Madigan is powerful but at least his plan does not eliminate the pension, Bruce is friends of rahm be careful!
Shocking - a clouted up guy makes some calls and gets his kid into a selective school. But - she already went to New Trier and he actually wrote a check.
So, how about the culture changes here: clouted up guys actually write checks for the goodies they get. I am sure that Ed Burke's second cousin will be stroking a $100,000 check any day now.
What a fucked up, rotten tag team Rahm and Rauner would be.
They'd be stepping all over the working class in order to cater to big business and welfare abusers.
And the altèrnatives are even more scary .
