- A South Shore woman accidentally fatally shot a 65-year-old relative during an argument about whether the gun would fire, police said.
Joeann Smith and Willie Smith were arguing about whether or not a gun would fire about 7 p.m. Wednesday at the woman’s home in the 1700 block of East 72nd Street, authorities said.
During the argument, Joeann Smith pointed the weapon at Willie Smith‘s face and pulled the trigger — shooting him in the eye, authorities said.
Of course, this means no one should ever own guns and all guns should be banned.

When you point a gun at someone's face and pull the trigger, resulting in the gun going bang, that ain't no accident. That's what is called murder.
The news mentioned that the victim was originally pronounced brain-dead upon arrival at the hospital.
I'd argue that he was brain-dead long before being shot in the face.
Will Garry have this incident categorized as a homicide or lie and file it as something else?

Look at the recent articles in the trib and times about what they think will happen when people fully have concealed carry. The libs are worried that blood will run in the streets and shootouts will happen over road rage and parking spaces etc etc etc. No end to their fearfull stories and they bring in examples that don't fit the pattern of law abiding citizens arming themselves in other states. Oh the inhumanity of it all!!!

Assume every firearm is loaded.
Control the muzzle direction at all times.
Trigger finger off trigger and out of trigger guard.
See that the firearm is unloaded. PROVE it safe.

It really sounds like both victim and perp were brain-dead. The perp still is (it's society's fault, tho').

This incident and the recent Tampa shooting that resulted from an argument over noise/texting in a movie theater will be exploited by the media in order to fit the liberal medias anti-gun agenda when the facts are many more lives are saved where citizens are armed.

Ocassionally, there are situation where stupid people mis-use a gun.
The media and others are very adept at creating a false crisis and not letting it go to waste.
Can someone with homicide investigation experience answer how this woman shooting the victim in the eye is deemed an accident?
It just doesn't sound right, gun is loaded, gets pointed at victim and trigger gets pulled.
