I love it 012 had 4 openings last month and all 4 spots were filled, but 9 people left the district so shouldn't there be five openings in 012 ? I do not understand the math the department uses to justify man power needs, seems a bit fishy to me.

I seem to remember that even though 015 is a busy district, it was considered a good place to work up until 2 years ago. Hmmmm, now let me think...what changed there right about two years ago? Oh yeah, Barbara "What can I do to 'motivate' them to work" West came along.

Rumored she said she just wants out before she's left to defend her actions in a pending whistle bower lawsuit she's named in. Sounds like she knows she about to take another beating.
Can anyone confirm this, and who is replacing Kirby?
I also heard from 35th St. that Gene Williams and Roti also being forced out? Anyone confirm this?

Usually I'd make some snide comment about a Democrat having a firearm 'incident'.

This dept has been doing bulllhsit with manpower needs and you don't understand the math? I could go on and on but obviously you think it is all legit. Why don't you go down to the union and ask the same question as you posted, I am pretty sure you will get a strong precise answer. Yes ignorance is bliss.

You're not alone brother! There was a large number of us still writing answers as we were told by a very annoying voice " put your pencils down". I saw a few leave1 hour after the test started. Hmmmmm
So the city shelled out 825K of the taxpayers money to investigate whether or not former city comptroller Ahmad was guilty of wrongdoing. He was not. I wonder what the connection between City Hall and the 2 law firms that reaped this windfall are. Why not just burn our money?

Debbie Kirby put her papers in. She is going to Ireland to be a Chief or Deputy Chief (perhaps the rank is Inspector) in the Garda. Heard it's an 18 month gig. I don't believe they are going to fill Kirby's spot and will parcel out whatever she had to different bureaus. Didn't hear anything about Williams or Roti. I know they'd like Williams gone but he's supposedly wired to the Obama people so they leave him alone.
OT - What's with the "clean slate7" ticket? It's loaded with people that are already on the current board- how are they doing anything different? Don't know if anyone read the fop newsletter, but it was loaded with nothing but damage control bs explanations. They threw in couple of things that justify their existence, and stated how much they've accomplished for the union, however I can't agree. The financial secretary touts free premium health care, and a new schedule as "tentative agreements" that were reached after intense research as if it were such a victory- it is not. Health care is not free, in fact, co-pays went up and dental coverage is practically a joke. We gave up 2 vacation days/yr and 2 hrs for every BFD we want to use in exchange for the 10 hr day, which we worked 5 days on/ 3 off every 3 weeks, then 3 on/ 4 off every 3 weeks (when the 4 day weekend would come around). That schedule allowed more time off without burning all your time, which obviously the city didn't like so they took that away and gave us the 4 on/2 off 9 hour day- one hour less but instead of getting 3 days off every week and 3 four day weekends, we get only 2 off, and now have 2 days less vacation days/yr, and each BFD day still costs us an extra 2 hrs for each one. So we gained nothing because we are still working 5 days/wk but lost more days off. Grievances going on 2 yrs+ old, still waiting to be settled, NATO OT took almost 2 yrs to get finally awarded, pension still underfunded- just a few examples to name. Seems like we are going backwards instead of forward, yet the union wants us to trust them. This union plays fair and soft with the city every time they disregard contracts, negotiate in bad faith, and neglect the first responders so it would appear that their actions favor those interests of the city and not the members of this union. This is a pattern of behavior, not just one or two events. We really need to pay attention to the operations at FOP and start questioning everything. FOP does not deserve trust nor faith until its actions dictate.
Shame all the busy districts have the worse cmdr'. Pena and West are real moral chargers !!!
My heart goes out to all the good people that have to work under crap bosses who know shit about being good to their people.

If we are getting P.P.O's you can bet they are related to someone. So settle in tight if you think your getting off midnight junior. Look at all the people assigned to other shifts and detailed to 2nd watch. If you want seniority you might consider going to 03, 05, or 15.
Now go make sure the tahoe is warm and the tank is full when you bring it in to me on 2nd watch.
Why all the extra bodies in 011?
011 is slated to implement an entirely different system than the current program they're trying in 012.
011 will begin operating on a federal grant that budgets making the district its own separate agency with its own units and resources similar to the different agencies within NYC boundaries that each have their own missions, budgets and command staff.
It is meant to address statistically higher crime rates, calls for service, and events generated and will serve to test recent theories discussed in the studies concentrating on Chicago's crime, gangs, traffic stops... and provide a template for a south side version. U of C wants to see it tested west before exhausting any of the resources they plan to contribute when it goes south.
It's a ten year plan to address the recent study suggesting south and west side neighborhoods have levels of violence that don't adhere to trends of lower crime rates in other areas.
There's a broader plan in the works to have 3 CPD's: South, North, and West.
The greater the need, the higher the budget, afforded by the different cabinets that can provide distinct target grants, the Dept. of Labor, HS, Transportation, Ed, and so on, toward respective focus missions.
The departments within the departments will also begin creating service and response units such as those who would strictly handle traffic/crashes special events, another for domestics, another for narcotics, critical response, and so on...
Get ready. Each will have sliding scales in terms of salaries, benefits, contracts and an opt out for collective bargaining.
MLAS has been instructed to continue operating with the understanding that patrol has no union, no representation, and no recourse for grievances, which is why the slow pace in arbitration of grievances has all but completely extracted a white flag from FOP.
Kirby was told to scram for a while. She's slated to run which ever section she chooses, but not the pilot, til it works out all the kinks so she doesn't get blamed for the rough start.
If it gets past city council and police board (which it will), early discussions have Weis running the CPD-W, Kirby assigned to head CPD-S, and McCarthy to run CPD-N, ostensibly to crack the whip.
There's already a grant pending for agencies to run our lakefront and downtown separate from these 3 CPD sections, tentatively called Lakefront Recreation Asset Division, and Commercial District.
North of the river, 018 is slated to stay the same as part of a CPD-N, entertainment District Special unit.
If you are thinking of bidding to 011 just hope you dont end up on second watch. The Lt who beleives he is in charge is a whacko. He will tell you that he is your friend and one of the good guys but, before you can turn around he will stab you in the back and hand you the CR # with his other hand.
The 2nd watch used to be a great watch ,since the Lt has been in charge morale is non existent.
We haven't had a watch "social event" since the Lt has been in charge.
Oh, and no joking around him he is very sensistive lately!

Word is, Kirby has accepted a job training police officers all the way over to IRELAND. I guess that will squash any subpoenas that might reach her. Williams is said to be retiring sometime this year. He either has reached or will reach 60, so that's understandable. Roti has some whack, and the best guess is, he'll remain with the job until something better comes along, which is likely to happen too.

If you live South and can't get into 022 than go to 004. Definitely the best option for far southsiders. The District is busy but bosses are good and you can go to the south end of the District to get a break from the day to day nonsense. As far as lunch, not exactly fine dining but at least it's clean in the 30 sector and still alot of citizens that appreciate you.

019 is loosing people due to the management of the district at the upper levels. Since some changes have happened for the better their was just too much misery inflicted on most of the Po's there in the not too distant past that they just said the hell with it, I want out and that is what you are seeing.

It will take some time to clean up the huge cluster from the former XO, he was totally unable to manage people and execute his job effectively. A terrible leader that needed to get dumped big time.

Management violates the contract on a daily basis. Why? because they can with impunity. Good luck on the grievance, problem being too may chicken shit fellow officers that won't file a grievance and take a stand with you. Been there & suffered the wrath
West in 015 is lousy. Just recently she re-tooled the post-shooting misions meant to combat reprisals and additional violence to traffic missions. I guess parkers are down along with morale. What a joke. I guess public safety isn't so important after all.
015 used to be a good place to work. Lots of weird supervisors but everyone banded together. But since West has taken power everything has gone down hill. Very little camaraderie left. Now the troops have been transfomed by poor leadership to zombies walking aimlessly in the hallway. So sad. Devastating
I must say that anyone bidding to 010 and gets it will truly be surprised by the generous, grateful, loyal, just and fair commander. Given the bad rap she has gotten on here for being meritorious and all. It's just a bunch of haters. After all what boss likes dog ass do nothing coppers. If you put in an honest days work you to can be rewarded with a spot on her giant office staff of some of the finest Vet officers on this job. The only downside you may come across is that a boss that good that's been here that long won't be there much longer. Time to pad that pension with a little more clouted who you knows. Amen brother, you are1 million percent correct. I don't wanna lose my car, I don't wanna lose my starting time, I don't wanna lose lose lose. But in the long run we ALL lose out because we won't stand together. We are our own worst enemy. And the city knows this. Why do you thing they violate the contract all the time. Ignorance is bliss.

Since you don't have the balls to say his name, I will. Glenn Evans is a good commander and a great cop. He just doesn't suffer dog asses very well; your post is very telling about what side of the fence you sit on, sir. Good luck to you wherever you wind up. Cops will complain about many things along with gossiping and twisting words. Commander E has been a different boss but not a bad one. He doesn't play the politics game and tries to care for those who work for him. He might be different in many ways but he was never bad. Having said that you can keep living in misery. Listening to gossip and complaints of officers are more childish then girl scout members. Some bosses want to flex because they've never flexed before this job. Commander E doesn't flex not does he care. Lets not forget the bigger issues on hand. Family, pension, and VRI.

You said it. No one wants to complain,so they get away with it. DC or management was given 20%not 20% plus anyone they want to detail. If the po's want to put up with it and no file a grievance, then they will just have to live with it

Worked with Glenn as a PO in Public Housing South. Mid 90's, when the projects were the "PROJECTS!" The was no more of a respected by his peers, and feared by assholes PO, than Glenn. I can assure you, that any PO who has beef with him, is almost certainly POS dogass. Because dogasses never like working PO's or supervisors. Par for the course. All anyone needs to know about Glenn was shown on the cover of the newspaper, during the NATO protest of 2012. He's the white shirt charging into the crowd to get some asshole who'd just hit a PO with a piece of debris. And by the way, he's charging in after his helmet has been pulled off. A great example of leading by example.
Yeah but him getting hit in the head didn't help him, he is nuts. I worked with commander evans too but the gold star changed him. Everybody fears him because he is unstable. We do not know what's we are going to get from him on a day to day basis.
