- Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Thursday he agrees with Ald. Carrie Austin (34th) that an avalanche of police statistics showing a reduction in homicides and shootings mean “crap” if people don’t feel safe.
One day after a verbal broadside from one of the City Council’s most influential African-American aldermen, Emanuel refused to return fire.
In fact, the mayor agreed with Austin, who unloaded on Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy when asked how she felt about Chicago’s first homicide of 2014 occurring in the Far South Side’s Roseland community she represents.
“I talked to Carrie. . . . Everything she said — in one way or another in different words — I’ve said and I agree with,” said Emanuel, whose popularity has dropped among black voters who helped put him in office because of persistent crime and school closings.

Everybody knows that 2012 reflected a exceptional increase in violent crimes and murders. Because Chicago had a "normal" year in 2013, the crime stats make it appear that crime dropped in 2013.
It only make sense that Garry McCarty makes his move from Chicago on a high note with this B.S. reduction in 2013 crime stats.
If Garry McCarthy would stay, crime can only go back up and he would no longer be able to bang his chest on how HE and HE ALONE decreased Chicago crime.
Odds are that McCarthy will be leaving VERY SOON before the warm weather comes and violent crimes and murders shoot back up.
It doesn't matter if there were 0 murders in Chicago there would still be haters saying the cops ain't doing their jobs. They'll never be satisfied. The Black community has to get their shit together and realize that as a community they will never advance in society until the black man takes responsibility for fathering a child and black female babies stop having babies. Bring back manufacturing to Chicago. When you net it all out buying goods from abroad that were once made here are the most expensive goods of all. The tax multiplyer effect of local manufacturing is the conduit by which a community is sustained and Roads, Schools, Bridges, Police & Fire, etc. are maintained. Stop shipping jobs abroad and stop making it impossible and costly to do business here. Look at the advances WI, IN and OH have made in this area.
Immigration -- legal immigration -- is what helped make America great. As a Sanctuary City, however, Chicago loses by virtue of the crime and drain on the limited financial resources. I do not believe illegal aliens, as a whole, contribute more to the community then the cost.

Bratten is now the commissioner of police in NY, again. When he left NY and Daley was looking for a super, Bratten famously said that he would never come to Chicago because of the politics. Bratten is the one who recommended McCarthy to Rahm. If McCarthy is sacrificed for political reasons, it would be a mistake. No one will do better. Do you really believe that any of the superintendents that were appointed under Daley did better? Better for the citizens, better for the cops? We all know that Roseland is a great place to live. In 1970.
Chicago citizen and taxpayer here. Happy someone is finally speaking out from the council about what we all have known for a while. That numbers and data mean nothing to the citizens throughout the entire city who see and hear of crimes on a daily basis many of whom are crime victims.
When is the mayor going to realize he has to add more police? Current strategies are not working. We don't even see a patrol car in our neighborhood anymore. I often wonder if an emergency comes up will the police respond?
I won't go out after dark during any time of the year because I do not feel safe. What kind of quality of life is this where you have to watch every thing you do when outside for fear something will happen to you?
I even dread picking up my child from our local park program because I have to pass trouble areas to get there and this is in a better part of the city. Forget about letting them walk in better weather because of the gangs.
The mayor acts like a tough guy so how about going to war on the gangs? Pull in whatever you need including the guard to back up the police. Let the police be the police. I don't care if the tourism dollar takes a hit for a while. Eventually, we'll be like Detroit. How many tourists will come here then? What will that do to your tourism dollars? I'm tired of living like this. Most law abiding citizens would support the guard coming in until new police are added. There are huge sums of money available for other things but not our safety.
And we need stiffer laws and harsher judges who do their job right. Too many of judges are appointed by political favor and this must stop. Lock up these punks. The only fear on the street now is from our citizens. Afraid to go about their daily businessat any time of the day or night.

Here's another one Carrie...lets pull up the statistics on burglary, robbery and auto theft arrests from 022 and see how many of the offenders came from YOUR COMMUNITY. Then we will look at the same stats for 005 and see how many of the arrestees came from Beverly or Mt. Greenwood. Or Norwood Park or the Northwest side. Don't bother. It's ZERO.
Carrie, the reason that your community is so fucked up is because of the bad people who live there and commit the crimes, graffiti the walls, toss garbage from windows and piss on street corners. I know that there are also good people there, working people and kids that WANT an education or improve their lot in life. Drove by Mark Donahue's house a couple of nights ago. Steve Robbins, Jim "big ears" Bailey and Billy Dougherty families were out there shoveling all of Mark's snow. Sergeant Mike Voight timed it perfectly again. Got there just as they finished. But he still eat the cookies and took some hot chocolate.

If you or anyone else believes that police strength will be increased because nobody works VRI then I have some land in Florida for sale.
The machine wants to kill the pension systems. Nothing will stand in their way.
I myself don't work VRI, but I do work housing.
I'm going to to bring in cash for those extra things my family deserve. Other coppers work Special for their own reasons, that's their business and theirs alone!

Same guys working VRI want to know why specialized Units cant get premium pay like D2 D2a. Reason is as long as there are volunteers(chumps) the city will never give premium pay to a specialized unit people are breaking the door down to volunteer for. VRI chumps are cutting their own throat and will be the loudest when their pension is gone because they enabled the city to get by without hiring additional coppers to pay into the pension fund.

Well, at least the south side kids should feel safe in the 'zones.' Mark W., IAD rat is out there guarding them, except when he leaves early to go guard the kind folks at ABC 7, where he works 32 or more hours per week. Now, we realize that the '20 hour' part time limit was done away with years ago, but I believe it now says "reasonable." Time to look at A&A's and payroll records folks.
