Media Doing Its Job?

It's like a freakin' miracle or something - and all it took was an insignificant blog pointing out the amazingly obvious facts:
  • The young woman from the Northwest Side had stopped paying attention to the news.

Ever since last summer, she didn’t want to hear it.

But a friend told the 24-year-old woman to take a look Sunday. So she did. And she saw the face of Luis Pantoja, the man who made headlines after police accused him of the December sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl.

He’s the same man prosecutors accused in August of raping the 24-year-old woman in an alley. That attack allegedly happened less than a mile from the scene of the brutal assault on the 15-year-old.

The 24-year-old woman told the Chicago Sun-Times, in Spanish, that she reacted Sunday with these words: “Wow. My God.

    “No, it can’t be.”
Unfortunately, it was. But guess what the victim's aunt says?
  • But the aunt of the 24-year-old woman allegedly raped in the early morning hours of Aug. 15 said the 15-year-old girl might never have been assaulted in December had last summer’s charges against Pantoja stuck.

“The police did their work,” the aunt said. “The problem was the judge that threw the case away.”

The 24-year-old victim and her aunt each spoke to the Sun-Times, in Spanish, on the condition their names wouldn’t be used. Judge Sullivan, meanwhile, did not respond to messages left by the newspaper seeking further explanation for her ruling.
And of course, the judge isn't answering questions and probably won't be forced to because there is no mechanism in place for judicial review in Illinois. We've stated it here and elsewhere, the Cook County judicial system is broken, before and since Greylord and Gambat. There is barely a qualified or uncorrupted judge sitting on the bench today, and if you don't believe that, you haven't been paying attention for the past 50 years.

We have advocated for years that people should vote "NO" across the board on judicial retention ballots, yet only one judge has ever been removed via a vote and that was with Mike Royko's assistance 30+ years ago. People act surprised when we point out instance after instance after instance of criminals roaming the streets who ought to be held on bail, serving time or be anywhere except where they are committing crimes again and again.

And once again, an innocent pays the price.

I like the statement from the August victim...the police did their work...the problem was the judge that threw the case away.". Nice to finally hear someone praise the police, and criticize the judicial system...where it seems a large number of cases are mishandled, poorly presented, are plead down, or just dropped. I get that they all can't be slam-dunk winners, but time after time after time, the posts here show bad guy after bad guy was on probation, parole, home monitoring, out after serving a fraction of the original sentence, sent to boot camp when not eligible, or has a sheet as long as the dictionary.

Socialist Party of Chicago put those people on the bench. These victims voted for and will continue to vote for them, because they are lied to by them and believe that they represent the workers.

Now you see the truth. Vote them out.

This now makes sense. I recall some years ago working Mass Transit and being told by my then Putz Commander that "we" had a problem. The bus video showed an offender, who did an Aggravated Battery on a CTA bus, and they published it in the then Daily Bulletin. Naturally Cmdr. Ed would immediately attack those of us who were not wired, so it was now my problem. I contacted the victim and found he only spoke Spanish. Went to his house with a Spanish speaking officer, and the guy said he Could Identify the offender if he saw him again or saw photos, all of which was NOT on the original report. We Supped. it up to the D Unit and the Commander. Nothing was ever done, and it was obvious that if you did not speak English in 025, well Good Luck! Now let me be clear, I am no fan of Illegal Immigration and believe that everyone in the U.S. should speak English; but if you don't bag the offender now, since we have to live in this cesspool, the next victim could be your daughter or wife. Everyone deserves quality service and if that means speaking another language advise the dispatcher and they will find a translator. So now does the case get reinstated? As for Sullivan like so many other Cook County judges, she is probably to dumb or lazy to hustle a living as an attorney, so she is a judge. Just kiss Madigan's ring to be slated and buy tables at the fundraisers.

Blame people like Ed Burke and John Daley for outrages like this. They are among the chief puppetmasters who preside over the system of slating judges that puts asshole judges on the ballot and uses this process to dole out favors and to ensure favorable rulings at the right time.

The system has nothing at all to do with getting the best and most qualified judges on the bench.

Ed Burke & John Daley

Go get some quotes from them. Judge Sullivan would not be on the bench without clout intervening and Ed Burke and John Daley waving the magic want.

This is one reason why I no longer seek DUI arrests. I was one of the top writers in 022 and made several arrests and worked the DUI task force along with the Roadside Checkpoints often. I really didn't do it for the money since I have a side business. Of course I would not do it for free but the money, believe it or not, was not the motivating factor. I knew most cops I met on this job were clueless on DUI enforcement so I decided to do my part.

So after going to 50 W. Washington over several years and listening to these judges' rulings on cases; cases where the is P.C. and a valid blow of 0.08 or above I am done. 100% done. I let me breath tech expire and I was even a DUI instructor as well.

I would not process a DUI for anything anymore short of a direct order from a supervisor. I threw in the towel. They won. I can tell you that you might as well testify at a DUI hearing in Swahili or some other language because the judge just ain't gonna hear it. Several times I would ask myself if they judge spoke and understood the English language because he apparently wasn't listening to anything that was said during testimony.

My favorite is when the judges say, "There are some credibility issues here but I do believe both stories of events so that leaves me no other choice to give benefit of the doubt to the defendant." How can you believe both stories?

It's ok. I am officially done and wish well to the other DUI writers out there. I did over 100 and got awards from MADD and CPD. Whatever. My focus is my life now and could care less about this job. If 'dude' ain't getting in my car and putting on handcuffs himself it ain't happening. Two years to go.

SCC, let's compile a list of judges that should be voted a no. Also the reason's why they should be voted no. Then we can distribute this list amongst ourselves, our families and the public.

Some of these judges have to go. I remember when I was fresh on the job. We arrested an offender for pcs. Before I patted him down, I asked him if he had anything on him. He replied yes "two rocks officer in my left back pocket". I wrote the case report and arrest report just like it went down. In court, the judge scoffed at me and shook his head and ruled "no probable cause".

The current FOP Board of Directors is the new training grounds for media interns.

Sid Davis is in training to become a copy editor. He would have a job already in the media except that when his last article was proof read it had 19 errors.

Jim Moriarty is also in training for sound editor. His over modulation of his youtube posting did not make the grade so he’s back to the classroom. Could be his problem with prescription drugs.

And Kevin Graham’s on-site reporting leaves a lot to be desired. Kevin is still trying to break that glass ceiling that you have to be at least a little photogenic to be the on air personality. Being shorter than Rahm and wider than the refrigerator Perry is not considered photogenic. PS never buy a suit from a guy named Omar.

And lastly Mark Donahue as the behind the scene producer also misses the mark. All on air reports must have some truth to them or you run the risk of being labeled as just another MSNBC program.

And as a after thought Mike Voight does need new glasses. He registered for the class to become a key grip. The thought is it was to become key gimp. Mike is a method actor and like to really get into his role.

Why did the case ever go to a preliminary hearing (giving the prelim judge the ability to find no probable cause)? Why was it not just indicted? Typically this means that the SAO knows the case is weak and wants it to go away.

I hate to be the one to say it (since I agree the judges are horrible) but maybe the evidence just wasn't there. I'm sure the police did their job, and did it well.

It was never fixed. This goes back to the 1800's. When the feds started hammering judges and lawyers during Operation Greylord, they had to stop because ALL of them were corrupt. They would have completely shut down the Cook County courts.

This is what happens when you continue to vote for criminal socialists. Think before you vote, and get out and vote. Get involved. Support the underdog candidates in opposing parties. Just make sure they stand for the Constitution and the rights of the people.

Don't believe or trust any of them not an honest one in the bunch. Especially the Chicago cooperation council!! They will jackpot you in a heartbeat if they can find you did something / anything questionable because who do they represent? The City NOT you...the police like they would have you believe. What is surprising in that the offender lived within 4 or 5 blocks of both attacks. With all the computers and the fusion unit, ASA sex crimes unit, crime patterns and no one put the first incident together with the second one. Similar MO, same description, etc and no one for a month says lets take a look at this guy.

Everybody should just step back and see how the case unravels. Sun Times just came out detailing the first sexual assault. Said there were problems with the language barrier. That said, the first case is not like the second case. The victim went to his house, layed on a bed and kissed him, then stopped and had the offender take her home on his bike. Allegedly on the way he attacked her. Doesn't make it right, but may shed some light on why there was no grand jury indictment and no probable cause

Never, ever wish or hope that evil befalls anyone especially for an innocent one who who didn't mess up in the first place. That's very bad karma and just plain evil in itself. Besides, no one deserves to have happen to her/him what happened to that 15 year old girl or the other victim. I do not know the circumstances that caused the judge to reach her conclusion, but I am sure now that this is brought to everyone's attention, there will be a lot of explaining to do, and possibly a price to pay for that judge. I know it won't turn back time for the second victim, but I will remember that judge the next time her name comes up on a ballot. I hope all of us do.

CityWide Team 102 - How not to run a board of Director's Meeting.

Is it true that the State Lodge President has signed himself into a hospital for stress? Mark Donahue has sent him flowers and candy. How nice.

The same Lodge 7 lawyer who flipped on Shields wants to keep his law license and now says the Shields is still the president while suspended and has to be paid while the hearing process continues. Apparently there is a lot more fire under all that smoke and he does not want to be disbarred. We guess he stopped drinking Dougherty’s Kool Aid. We see a huge law suit after the election.

The CityWide Team AGAIN blocked retirees from coming back into the union. We say do not vote for any CityWide retiree candidate especially past president Donahue and retired Sergeant Mike Voight. The few Shields’ guys on the Board pushed this along with help from the Angelo guys. The McDonagh ticket is still missing in action. Apparently they are not yet ready for prime time yet. Treatment for their character flaws are not yet concluded.

Is it true that Ed King does not have the required 5 meetings and the Dougherty people are giving him an excused absence for the 5th meeting? How does that work? One set of rules for the CityWide Team and one for everyone else. Oh bye the way Ed King is on the CityWide ticket running for trustee.

Bill Dougherty tried to get the Board to bring up Jim “Obama Ears” Bailey up stairs to become a field rep. Big Ears is another one of Bill Dougherty’s Hockey friends. We voted that down in a heart beat. D5 pay plus a monthly stipend. Not bad for your shower room buddy!

Today the Board asked to bring John Dineen on the board to fill a vacancy but Bill Dougherty blocked it. We guess John’s experience as the first President of Lodge 7, past State Lodge president, National Lodge President, and National Grievance Chairman were not good enough for the CityWide team. The monthly stipend for trustees is only 600 a month which is lower than any other union in the city. Our compensation is overly top heavy in this lodge. John only wanted 500. We guess if you are not in that click of Donahue yes men you are non grata

Judges are routinely re-elected because no one knows anything about them. I'd suggest a review of the numerous judicial candidate rating organizations - someone listed Sullivan's ratings above, along with some of the rating organizations. A quick review of them should have given any voter pause. So, you can spend a little time and educate yourself or you can allow Burke & Co. to decide who wins.

Case in point: a "connected relative" once ran for judge, backed by Burke and Stroeger. She was rated "unqualified" by every single rating agency, was ridiculed on talk shows and voter info programs, had the worst spot on the ballot (third out of three) and still won, beating her nearest opponent by six to one. Had voters simply done a little research she could have been stopped the first time she ran.

Retired CPD
I have known Laura Sullivan for more than 15 years. She was a supervisor in the narcotics unit in the State's Attorney's Office before becoming a judge. She is a friend to the police, always taking time to sign warrants even from her home, no matter the hour and making the right decision on cases. I know her husband (also law enforcement) and I know how much time she gives back volunteering at her kids' schools. Anyone who has ever worked at 26th St. knows that the SAO indicts all sex crimes except the one's they want thrown out. It's to save the victim from having to testify twice. If the ASA thought the judge made a mistake they could have indicted the case after the finding of no probable cause. No indictment on this case. Says a lot.

Why name a high school after a mexican president?
Why name half the states in this country in native languages?
If it's your country, and not native land any longer, are natives American?
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut
Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin and Wyoming...

all foreign (or native ) language words...none are English, or American, uh-oh, wait...neither is the word America itself...named after Amerigo Vespucci. Hm, that's kinda latin in origin, how offensive.
Wait, New Mexico. Now that about takes the cake, huh? Even though, again, the words mexico and texas come from native mexican languages.
Man, how about all those spanish state names? Florida, Colorado, Montana, Nevada...

Then you have Vermont, a state named in French, or Louisiana, a state named for a french king (tell me that's not worse than a mexican president)?
Or all the other states named for kings (I thought we stood for everything that rejects monarchs)? There's both Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia, and even Maryland. Remember how they told us in Catholic school Maryland was named for the blessed virgin because it was a Catholic colony? Nope...once again, another monarch (King Charles of England's wife Henrietta Maria).

Then there's New York... I mean, c'mon, York? That one was just calling for a name change after the revolution.

And then there's Hawaii. Essentially a foreign country all on its own but for suddenly being called a state in spite of all the Hawaiians...and Japanese. I wonder how many Hawaiian and Japanese historic figures have schools named after them in that state.

But back to Illinois. Land of Lincoln, and Benito Juarez. Aside from Illinois having its own list of town names that seem to embrace international influence (Athens, Cuba, Warsaw, Peru, Lebanon, Havana, Genoa, El Paso, Palestine), it also seems to recognize the historic parallels between Juarez and Lincoln as both are credited with saving thier young nations from collapse. Juarez is known as the Lincoln of Mexico due to his humble beginnings as an orphaned peasant who spoke only his native Zapotec, not Spanish, but nonetheless became a judge in his home state.

His populist leanings drew the ire of the establishment and forced him to leave Mexico and reside in New Orleans where he worked in a small tobacco plant as a cigar maker.

Eventually, with American presidents Buchanan and Johnson supporting his efforts, Juarez expelled Napoleon III and the french attempt to install an Austrian emperor, ensuring the Monroe Doctrine would remain relevant and Mexico, continuing its place as an American conjoined, albeit deformed twin, dependent and subservient to its host Herculean brother to the North, in geographic terms.
You should take a short trip to the avenue of the Americas Plaza, right here on the magnificent mile, behind the Wrigley building.

There, another shocking memorial, at least as offensive as the high school that bears his name, in larger than life scale, stands a bronze and prominent statue of Benito Juarez.

Who knows? Maybe one day it'll find a more welcoming home in Mexico, New York.

Was Judge Sullivan's poor decision predicated upon recognition of the fact that the Circuit Court of Cook County does not have a sufficient number of interpreters? Due to budget cuts many court rooms, outside of the criminal courts, do not even have full-time court reporters any more. In many civil courts, the lawyers have to retain the stenographers for proceedings.

Jeez, that's more than I ever cared to know about the naming conventions of this country but to be fair, it is apples and oranges.

You did not name one single school in Mexico that was named after the Lincoln of America. That would be Abraham. Where in Mexico is Abraham Lincoln High School? Or John F. Kennedy, the noted philanderer, High School?

Now if you don't mind, please rattle off some true comparables, that is, schools in Mexico named after American Presidents. Let's narrow it down a bit more even, make that schools built in Mexico with Mexican tax money that speak predomanently English and named after American Presidents and are populated by at least a moderate amount of English speaking people whose parents are also in Mexico illegally and are also in a Mexican sanctuary city.

Now that would be an accurate comparison.

But thanks for the history and geography lesson.

as for apples and oranges... the guy asked why there are high schools in America named after presidents of Mexico...
There is an organization called the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States, an American military fraternity. There is only one foreign member: Benito Juarez.

Perhaps this Mexican president gets statues and schools and streets, like Lincoln gets statues and schools in places like Tijuana.

you're right, Americans don't die
trying to enter Mexico illegally. They don't live that way because this country is just that great. So great, it can name a few schools and streets after foreign dignitaries and so great, it knows the value and importance of providing services and translated signs and interpreters because it has a positive impact on the economy and attracts foreign investment.
we lead for so long, other countries wanted to learn how it was that our economy and culture is so dynamic...
That's why when you travel to Mexico, or China, or the middle east, for that matter, Highway signs are in English.
Because we are just that great.
we're Americans. We're not going to cry about things like the names of schools we never had any intention of sending our kids anyway...

Let me see if I have this straight? State President Ted Street supports Bill Dougherty for Lodge 7 President. Bill Dougherty has promised to support Ted Street in his State election next July. Ted Street charges Mike Shields, removes him as Lodge 7 President and suspends Mike Shields membership in the FOP, making him ineligible to run for Lodge 7 President and making him ineligible to sit on the board as immediate past Lodge 7 President, which means Mark Donahue remains in that position and Dougherty has one less political opponent to worry about courtesey of one slimy politician Ted Street. Ted Street, with Bill Dougherty and Lodge 7's support, wins his election in July which keeps Donahue on the State Lodge Board as immediate past president. Everyone's happy and the clown show continues with politics as usual. What Stinks in Lodge 7 and the State FOP? Smells like political sewage is backing up in the Street. Maybe we need to flush the toilet and get rid of them all, Dougherty, Donahue, Street..

That's why when you travel to Mexico, or China, or the middle east, for that matter, Highway signs are in English.
Because we are just that great.
we're Americans. We're not going to cry about things like the names of schools we never had any intention of sending our kids anyway...

Well I'll be, brother you got me. You learn something new every day sometimes a couple of somethings.

That order, the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States, their web site says it was started around 1865 and in the beginning made up of officers who served in the Civil War. They mention Juarez as a member but gave no explanation why he is there. Must have supported the cause I guess.

Yes, I have seen that statue off of Michigan Ave and wondered why it was there.

Now tell me please, are you a policeman in Chicago?

Yep. Plotting my escape from Illinois like everybody else...
Just saw yet another rankings list that shows Utah and Texas in the top 5 of states poised for short and long term employment gains.

All roads lead to those two states, it appears.
