Lewis Kicks Rahm's Ass Again

Up until about 5:30 P.M. yesterday, the CPS administrators and Rahm were keeping the schools open, not to educate, but to babysit.

Most sensible parents had already decided to keep their kids home. Even the University of Chicago Lab School that teaches the mayor's kids had decided to close over the weekend. There was even an article in the Tribune that had Karen Lewis, head of the teachers union, calling for schools to be closed.

As a result, Lewis looked like she was making sense, while Rahm (and Rahm's people) dithered:
  • As the region braces for brutal sub-zero cold, Chicago city officials have one brief bit of advice: Stay inside.

“If you can stay indoors, please do so,” Gary Schenkel, executive director for the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications, told reporters Sunday. He added: “Everyday activities may not be feasible.”
That was probably the last straw - everyone stay home....except the kids. A brilliant bit of theater that would have left egg all over Rahm, so of course, it had to be done. Nice to see someone is thinking.

Many suburban schools and private city schools made this call on Saturday. Why would the city, who is all for the children even think of having school in frostbite conditions? That this was even open for debate is crazy.

Rahmie the Commie is so concerned for the children that he wants to risk their safety to make sure he keeps them safe.

Meanwhile, in other communist countries, North Korea executed its number two. It is not know if their Glorious Leader Kim Jong Un had his uncle Jang Song Thaek executed by anti aircraft guns or fed to a pack of dogs.

Not that Rahm's heart thawed out or anything.

He didn't want anyone asking questions while he was attending a Madras School in Indonesia and kids froze their tongues to lightpoles on Safe Passage Routes.

The real reason CPS is closed is not because of the weather, it's because CPS couldn't find enough substitutes for all the teachers who called into their new automated system (www.aesoponlone.com) to take off on Monday. Reports are the system went down with all the calls coming in.

Also, it has to be really hard for CPS teachers and administrators to drive in from the suburbs, IN, & WI to teach in Chicago, something nearly 30%-35% of them do. Many teachers are either grandfathered with the old CPS residency policy or they work in special 'need basis' subject areas, which allows them to live outside Chicago.

(Did you know PE is a 'special need basis' subject area? Think about those PE teachers when you're paying your tax bills and they drive out of Chi-raq to their nice cozy homes in Aurora, Antioch, Elmhurst, Schaumburg, Evanston, etc. and taking their $72K-$90K salaries with them to spend in other communities' economy and their kids go to real schools.)

However, there's a boatload of CPS staffers who break the residency policy and CPS does nothing about it. There were 265 complaints of residency violations reported in the 2013 CPS Investigators Report, by far the most of all the complaints and accounting for 18.1% of all complaints. Yet, only 3% (8 staffers) of those complaints resulted in staffers being nabbed for a residency violation.

And, what does CPS IG James Sullivan say about this? Sullivan says CPS is short the manpower to check on all the complaints. But, if you know Chicago, most residency compliants get lost somehow, just like the Vanecko evidence.

Here's the report:

Attempted to fly the other day told delayed for days, employee said labor dispute, many did not show up for work! Guess the guys that work at the bottom can show the billionaires at the top who really matters! Bottom line if the workers are abused the top elite catch a cold, you can only dump on the workers so long until worker say no more! Happens everywhere, we are getting tired of the powers that be dumping on us!

If Karen Lewis did not make such racist comments in the past she could beat rahm easily, female, black, yes shoe could win, but her mouth diminished her chances, wonder if anyone else out there could be rahm and his crew of billionaires who support him? Any other mayor would of cut vacation short and made their way back to the city, but rahm obviuosly does not care as evidenced by his extra long vacation, and to think this country is not good enough for him to vacation in!

One of the reasons they wanted to leave the schools open is most of the parents in the ghetto don't feed their children and the school is the only place these kids get a meal. It's a shame that the only time these kids eat is at school. That being said it's not society's responsibility to feed your kids. It's the parent's responsibility to ensure their children have enough food in order to survive. If the only reason you send your kid to school is to eat and to get them out of your hair then you shouldn't have kids in the first place.

OT - Well, well, well. His royal majesty is finally back from his vacation - oops I meant business trip. He's finally getting around to addressing his subjects at a 2:30 pm press conf. Better late than never most say. Kind of like closing the barn door after all the animals have gotten out. A real lack of leadership is being shown during one of the worst winter starts in a long time. People are noticing more than what Tiny thinks. He certainly does not put the people of chicago ahead of himself. When are side streets going to be plowed and salted? The city has not handled one winter storm yet with any capability. Piss poor service and I'm not blaming the snow truck drivers. They take their orders from above.

Can't wait til this guy gets the boot in 2015. Hey news media. Why are you so quiet about where the Mayor has been? Doesn't anybody feel he should have cut his business trip short and hightailed it back to town? Oh yeah, I forgot he has all those capable staff members running things in his absence. The taxpayers did not elect them. They elected you, tiny, and you need to get your ass in gear and start providing better service. You got the boot out of Washington and city hall is next.

Can see him leading off at 2:30 about his very important business trip but he was in constant touch with his staff blah blah blah....... Save it. It's all about you and what you want. Similar to a tyrant.

Hey dumbfuck check out a map; Chicago isn't Alaska, Canada, or Siberia so this is not the norm and therefore the proper procedures and infrastructure to combat this type of severe cold isn't in place. Frostbite can set in as little as 10 minutes in these conditions so while it might not be a bad idea for a moron like you to be out there so you can't reproduce and pollute the planet, it is a bad for kids going to school or standing outside waiting for a bus.

"Seems like kids go to school in other parts of the world that routinely have severe winter conditions. Why can't the kids in U.S. go to school?"

Don't get stuck on stupid! It is a miracle that any of the CPS students live long enough to reach adulthood. The students are overwhelmingly poor minorities from non-traditional single parent families, if you can call their inattentive mothers parents in anything other than the biological sense of the word. Nobody is dressing these children appropriately and sending them out the door with brown bag lunches. The CPS feeds the children.

More to the point, the CPS could not find sufficient substitutes to staff all of the classrooms on Monday as almost everyone had called in sick or to use a personal day. You want the kids to attend school without any adults present to provide supervision.

Chicago set its all-time record for cold today, breaking marks set 113 years ago, and some of you are acting like it was mild snow flurries.

I'm of the opinion that nobody in the City or CPS wanted to call school off because they were afraid of the Mayor and being on the receiving end of one of his tantrums. The Mayor was airborne and was incommunicado, as soon as he was able to be reached, they called him and let him give the thumbs up or thumbs down.

Micromanagement at it's finest.

So, you're saying it's okay for CPS teachers living in the suburbs (along with WI and IN) to not make it in to work in Chicago because they only, ONLY, make $75K-$90K??? I'm not sure of your point.

If CPS teachers living outside Chicago were that great of teachers, they would be making those $125,000 salaries in places where they live. Places like: Naperville, Park Ridge, Niles, Arlington Heights, Morton Grove, etc. Instead, CPS kids get suburbanites who can only hoot and holler, bang on buckets, and say, "Hey, Hey, Ho, Ho, Rahm Emanuel has got to go."...then, they drive or take the Metra back to where they live and suck more money out of Chicago taxpayers.

If all other city workers HAVE to live in Chicago, so should CPS teachers and administrators.

In 2011, Rahm Emanuel was elected Mayor of Chicago with the lowest popular vote total of any winning candidate in almost a century. It is worth noting that in the 1919 mayoralty race, there were five general election candidates, including three major candidates (the incumbent mayor, the incumbent county clerk and the incumbent state's attorney).

Emanuel bought the election in 2011. Voter turnout was apathetic. Tiny Dancer probably spent about $45.00 per vote.

You're right on point and CPS gets the leftovers who bitch and moan about being underpaid at $72,000 when the parents of Escobar, DeShawn, and Maria are just getting by on $30,000 or less salaries. A lot of CPS teachers, many Euro Trash, complain how lazy, uncivilized, undisciplined, and slow their students are and they have no idea what's it like to be one of these kids and know what goes on in their neighborhoods, especially when many of the entitled CPS teachers were raised and live outside Chicago.

How the fuck does Ms. Youngperkyass know what's it like to be one of his students when the only times she comes to Chicago, besides work, is for pub crawls on Lincoln Ave. or going to Cubs games?

Karen Lewis is right as you need teachers living in the students' communitiies to know what they're going through on a daliy basis. Yet, she does nothing to persuade her teachers to move to Chioago.

"Apart from exempt positions (like special ed.), most ordinary classroom teachers in the CPS are subject to residency rules."

1/07/2014 05:40:00 PM

It's more than Special Education, here's the lowdown:

The Chicago Board of Education's residency policy was established to:

Enhance the quality of performance of duties by employees who, as residents of the City, have an increased personal stake in the progress of the Chicago Public Schools and more awareness of conditions existing in the system.
Increase the likelihood that employees residing in the City will have contact with community leaders and citizens through public school and community activities.

Minimize absenteeism and tardiness among employees.
Provide economic benefits to the school system from local expenditure of salaries and the payment of local sales and real estate taxes.

Exemptions to the Residency Policy for Special Needs Areas
Newly hired teachers who are certified/endorsed in subject areas deemed special needs may apply for a waiver to the residency policy, provided they are hired to teach in a special needs area of education. Such individuals must complete and submit an application for exemption to the residency policy within 31 calendar days from the original date of hire.

If granted, exemptions will be valid for three (3) academic years after the employee's date of hire and may be renewed for subsequent three (3) year periods, provided that the employee continues to be employed in a special needs position.

I understand the hostility to Karen Lewis given her hard leftist politics and her advisors, but remember that during WW2 the USA allied itself with Stalin to defeat common enemies. In the short term if Lewis is the only one who can hammer Rahm, I would support her in that fight. The enemy of my enemy may be my friend, at least temporarily.

Okay, I can understand CPS allowing staffers in almost all of the special need areas to live outside the city. Even ROTC. But, counselors and PE teachers. THAT'S RIDICULOUS!!!

Didn't CPS layoff over 100 counselors and over 100 PE teachers prior to this school year? Where's the need to let them to continue to live outside Chicago?

Wow
I guess I struck a nerve with my post about teachers residency. There seems to be so much
hostility to the fact all CPS teachers do not fall under the residency rule. Truth be known CPS
receives about 48% of its funding from local taxes the rest comes from outside the city in the
form of state and federal money. In my suburban district 86% of school money comes from local real estate taxes. In 1984 my in-laws paid $ 450 dollars in property tax for a two flat in Sherman Park,
while my little suburban house cost me $ 3,500 the same year.
To those who think the best teachers are in the burbs I would like to say so are the best students.
it is not hard to be successful in the classroom with kids actually raised by parents who teach them
right from wrong. I know of no suburban district with a residency rule.200-500 teachers applying for one job is an accurate statement, but the person who gets the job is usually related to a school board member.
P.S. The two flat in Sherman Park was sold for a pittance in 1986, immediately converted to an illegal four flat for 22 people. It went into foreclosure in 1987 and burned to the ground in 1990.
