Crime Trends

If we're reading the charts correctly, and it's completely possible we aren't, January 2014 is on pace to match or succeed January 2010 and 2011, but fall short of 2012 and 2013.

These numbers are in constant flux, but once again, it certainly appears that when the Department had 2,000 more bodies in 2010 and 2011, crime was actually demonstratively down, unlike 2012 and 2013 where the "more with less" philosophy kicked in and over 500 people paid with their lives.

Just thought we'd keep up with the numbers during the cold time. Plus, there isn't much going on this week.

OT: You can tell it's election season. Fop is hosting a town Hall Meeting. Herb Heibien (sp) arranged the last one. Let's see if Hurley really shows. I would like an autographed picture of her and Donahue and explanation of what they have done for us in the last two years.

I'm open to be swayed but need to hear real questions and real answers. Not a dog and

That's because McStreetlightshooter is a fantastic strategic and tactical planner. Crime is down. Bow to him now. Hell, we should downsize CPD another 500 cops as they aren't needed. He's so successful SCC, that you have no crime trends to report about. Looks like Chalkie is on a permanent vacation or looking for a new city to live in. Or the fucked up weather has something to do with it.

SCC - Thanks as always for the link.

It has been very slow this January with the help of really shitty weather. As you know, once the temps start pushing above freezing the more the lead seems to fly.

We've had three days this month with 0 homicides or shootings. That hasn't happened in a long time and at no point at all last year in which was the best year since 1753.

Sadly the union wasted media attention on a hopeless campaign of hiring 1000 more cops which was never going to happen with the current mayor. However the solution is simple and should have been pressed for the last 2 years since the creation of VRI. Moral sucks, cops cant get days off consistantly, and we are always looking for chances to make more more. That combined with the departments clear policy of being willing to pay overtime instead of more cops leads to a simple win-win solution.
The department expands VRI into a program divided into north, south, and central overtime initiative. Officers enter a pool to work 1 of those areas, (in any district assigned) on their days off. No officer is ever denied a day off when requested according to contract guidelines. Moral goes up because you always get time off when you want and you have the chance to make more money. The upside for the city is better coverage with more police on the street without paying benefits and instead of paying time and half to and officer it only is actually 1/2 time since they are taking time off the books of the officer requesting off.

How bout them Obamacare Navigators, taking your vital information and helping you to sign up. Many of them are felons or ex felons. Our Dear Leader does care about the little guy.

Hey SCC, here's one for you. Why are we constantly being told in 010 that we are down contact cards? If we are being told that we are down, then that means we haven't reached a certain number and having this certain number to achieve means there's a quota in place. I thought quotas were a no no.

There is no such thing as an "ex felon". Once you have been convicted, you are now a felon and will be one for the rest of your life. You have shown the world what you are.

Sure, you can be baptized and reborn and all that. Great. Prove yourself to your community. I have had it with all this forgiveness crap. Remember what people have done and treat them accordingly....especially our elected officials.
