NATO 3 Trial Continues

  • One defendant used violent language and seemed intent on fighting with cops and vandalizing property on undercover recordings played at the NATO 3 trial.

On more than two dozen recordings played for jurors Wednesday, the man alleged by prosecutors to be the central figure in a terrorist plot during the 2012 NATO summit in Chicago comes across as a stoner trying to impress the female undercover police officer who'd befriended him.

Brian Church, 22, is on trial with Jared Chase, 29, and Brent Betterly, 25, on charges they plotted attacks against Chicago police, Mayor Rahm Emanuel's house and President Barack Obama's campaign headquarters. The so-called NATO 3, who had driven here from Florida, were arrested after filling four empty beer bottles with gasoline with the aid of two undercover Chicago officers at the Bridgeport home where they were staying with 12 others.
And loud-mouthed, drunken frat boys they may have remained...until acts of furtherance were committed. Then we move out of the realm of the "Occupy whatever" anarchist fantasy into the real world of consequences. Hopefully, Anita isn't blowing this one.

It is a crime, however, when you plan on blowing shit up. "He meant well" is not a valid excuse for blowing shit up.

BTW, what do you consider a "fair and just world?" I kind of like one in which people don't blow shit up.

The Mayor is crying poor when it comes to paying police officers the pensions they've earned but apparently there is plenty of money to give away land in hot neighborhoods.

The Mayor wants to sell six lots to a developer in Humboldt Park for $1 each to build homes.

It sure is, it sucks big time. The premise is a joke, and the 'acting' just plain sucks. The first episode was painful to watch, the second one made me throw-up in my mouth, and I'm almost afraid to watch the third one today with On Demand.

By all rights it should go the way of the recently failed 'Ironside', canceled after 3 episodes. But it won't, it's a Dick Wolf production so the network will give it time to for the Dick Wolf magic to work and catch an audience. Well, good luck with that.

Bottom line, 'Chicago PD' is a prime example of why Mayor Daley -- the Real one -- kicked Hollywood out of Chicago.

::::: Yep that's right, he did. After the '68 Hippie Riot in Grant Park he didn't want any cameras filming here, certainly NOT of 'his' Police Dept. The Hollyweirdos weren't 'invited back' until Jane Byrne made peace and allowed the Blues Brothers to film here. :::::

Two things: It is not against the law to be a socialist, communist, or fascists. High lever members of state and federal government and congress are all of those. These boys have done little wrong and the prosecution recognizes that they have a very weak case.

Chicago PD, is a great cop show, but it is idealized more toward how things ought to be, not how they actually are.

The Chicago news media should hang their heads in shame, they are just dying to discredit the POLICE, This Mark Brown from the Sun Times is drooling all over himselve just waiting to pounce on these 2 undercover coppers, Weather these 3 assholes came to Chicago for fun or really wanting to cause problems we can't say, but my past dealings with these screwballs is that their ideas on how the world should work is scary, they might be college grads but they lack one important piece, that is STREET SMARTS, these people need to be taken pout to Englewood , or the far southside and see how fast they can relate to realtime problems, they will crap in their pants. I can't wait for Mark Brown to get his ass kicked by some protestors one day, and then he will scream for the police, and like the pros that we are, we will save his ass.

"Eenie-meanie, chili-beanie, The Spirits are about to speak!"

"Are they FRIENDLY spirits?"

Heh... This IS Chicago, isn't it?

Fuck no! Them haints ain't friendly in the least!

Chicago-style fuckery in furtherance...

It looks like the political and media powers that be are very actively putting this case on in the court of public opinion in order to make it go away.

Prediction:

In the end, It won't matter whether these three misguided missles were lawfully surveilled, arrested AND CHARGED.

It won't matter that they intended to injure and kill Policemen and passers by in the commission of CRIMINAL ACTS.

It won't matter that these unconscionable little jag-offs fully intended to and made provisions for pointing and laughing at the spectacle of seeing "Cops on fire" and the aftermath of the death, destruction and chaos they acted in furtherance to cause.

A question if we could, please...

WHERE are the CPD SUPERVISORS & EXEMPT MEMBERS, CITY HALL OFFICIALS & CCSAO BOSSES who were ALL monitoring, coaching AND running plays to the huddle of this investigation from the sidelines?

>Sound of a car skidding & crashing<

O_o? o_o? o_O?
"Dafuckwuzdat?"

Really... It's a very simple-assed question that needs to be answered.

>CRICKETS<

Whoopsie! Can't leave the FEDS out either...

If past Chicago political practice is any indication, these two officers currently sitting in the witness box at 26th Street are going to be the sacrificial scapegoats.

This case is designed, for political expediency, to decay into another propaganda suite of "Rogue Chicago Cops" again operating in the vacuum of impunity with no direct supervision or oversight from an allegedly "neutral" civilian authority... Etc. Etc. Etc.

Has the prosecution set this up to fail? They should have put on all the Chicago, Cook County and Feeb heavy hitters who coached this investigation from the sidelines as to how these nitwits attracted L.E. attention in the first place.

THEN put the eyeball & hands on Officers in the witness box...

Legal and court room generalship in Cook County has always taken a back seat to political wiggle room to allow for the covering of political asses.

The Officers did nothing wrong but they're going to get hurt badly because of Chicago/Cook County/news media bullshit.

This angle needs looking into to mitigate any potential harm to the Officers in the witness box.

Remember... In this day and age, The Police are the enemy.

This trial will end up in appeal or more likely a mistrial. All for what...GmaC, Alvarez, Preckwinkle, Dart posturing for a Fed appointment. Then theres all the money being spent on this trial in a County Judicuary that let's more criminals free is ridiculous.
I don't think this case had any substance and so the Fed refused to prosecute, so let the locals screw it up.
Think about it...any criminal case that involves a international figure/event like the delegates of NATO, President and dignitaries, is going to be tried in a court that routinely lets out repeat offenders. Why did the Fed charge the Boston Marathon bomber?
I think this trial is more about Chicago politics than it is about justice.

As officers arrived after responding to a "officer in distress" call, the offender had the victim in an MMA style choke hold. 008 officers physically removed the offender w/ force placing him into custody, all the while 2 railroad workers watched in fear w/out assisting. To top it off, the 2 RR workers refused to cooperate w/ detectives until the higher ups stepped in. Oh, and the bad guy was on parole for Armed Robbery, 6 yr sentence, served 2!! Bad guy- Nathan Haywood, convicted felon, received multiple felony charges... Lets see how the ASA's plea this one out. Please keep this case in mind SCC. As long as the cop wrote his paper correctly, and did his job correctly there are no problems.

The rest of it falls on the jury.

Bernstein did the same thing by advertising his class on the CPD email.

1/23/2014 07:39:00 PM

Had no idea Bernstein had a CPD email.

You see in this email thing you can send and receive email from anyone in the known universe that has an internet connection. It isn't just within the CPD. I could send an email from my chicagopolice.org account to the administrator of an Asian porn site in Bangkok. Or to my wife, if they both have an email account.

Just checked my department email and low and behold, there is an email talking about the Citywide Ticket including their website. Does anyone know how I can let the FOP know about this since most of the people there are on this ticket. Tired of these guys thinking the rules don't apply to them.

I'm a copper and think these three were railroaded.

1/23/2014 11:20:00 AM

I find it very hard to believe you are a copper but very easy to believe you are a moron.

1/23/2014 11:05:00 PM

Being a 'copper' and being a moron are not mutually exclusive. Same for aldermen, priests, truck drivers, doctors etc etc etc.

That being said while I don't think the NATO 3 were 'railroaded' I do think they were dropped off at the station and handed a timetable. At best I would expect a mixed verdict or them being acquitted entirely. If they are found guilty of any charges I hope the judge orders haircuts and the removal of any ninja stars, bow and arrows and any video games they may have.

Do you honestly think no one can send an email to your cpd account unless THEY have a cpd account?

I'm a cop and believe these three were railroaded. These "coppers" testifying are going to be hung out to dry. What a nonsense case.

There is no implication that they are mutually exclusive. My statement describes two separate assessments. Thanks anyway though.

It's very easy to legally get a list of police officers' names. And you realize your email address is your name, right? No one has to GIVE them your email address. It's just that easy.

I have it figured out you Cro-Magnon cretin. When the department send everyone a message do you think they have some mope sit there and type in 12,000 email addresses? There is a way to send to all but you need to read Advanced Internet for Dummies first.

It is a shit case.
The undercover coppers are total fuckups.
They fucked this case up big time.
Even more, the supervisors who put these wonders undercover for a case like this are bigger fuckups.

Oh Jesus Christ, $522.00

1/23/2014 11:40:00 PM

Not quite accurate. $487 is the real figure. Must have some benefit given for the rest. Right from FOP I'm sure you can put down $522.00 and it wont be questioned
