Shooting Totals Rise
- A 22-year-old man was shot while he was shoveling snow Sunday morning in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the South Side.
The man was shoveling outside his girlfriend’s home in the 8500 block of South Constance Avenue about 10 a.m. when two men approached and got into an argument with the man, said [...] a department spokesman.
The two men asked him whether he belonged to a particular gang before one of the men pulled out a handgun and shot him in his upper left arm — though the bullet lodged in his throat, according to police and a neighbor. The men then fled the scene on foot.
The man who was shot has had run-ins with the law but no documented gang affiliations, police said.
Who does this guy think he is? Shoveling snow for his girlfriend. The gangs will put a stop to that nonsense!

Violation for shoveling snow, WTF happens if he cuts the grass! Do they have grass on the south-side?
Could you please take this story down so those a-holes don't ruin it for us city gals? The last thing we need is another excuse for our guys to get out of shoveling. "But baby I could end up with a bullet in my throat!"
It's clearly his fault for shoveling the snow. The neighbors came out and told the guy he was making the rest of the men on the block look bad. When he arrogantly continued shoveling, he was then shotified. See it's his fault.
if only dude had his concealed shovel permit................
All I could think of when I saw this story was....When was the last time you saw a shovel in their hand that wasn't being used as a prop for a home invasion or ruse entry? That's all I'm sayin'.

Yes. See the west side for lack of grass.
Either Gmac is still at The Obama's house par-Tay or sunning his buns in Mexico Real.
Crime is down and our Supt will come back with a bitchin tan.
What do these gangs think they are? Government?
He probably got shot for failure to purchase a snow shoveling license or perhaps the gang was giving all the snow shoveling business to their little brothers on that block.
I definitely believe the shooting part...can't believe he was out shoveling snow though.

Welcome to Shitcago - now gimmee yo shit!
Someone riddle me this. Let's say I'm a retired guy that has gone through the IROCC thing, my records are in shape and I am licensed to carry. I'm walking out of a store, see an armed robbery in progress, man pointing a gun at someone. If I light the guy up, what's my liability. I know I can choose to observe and report, but can I shoot him in defense of his victim?

Let us not forget Mt Greenwood, Beverly, Ashburn and other "cop neighborhoods" are southside.

Nope.
U go to jail.
And offender's lawyer takes away everything U got.
IROCC for your SELF defense only.

Plain and simple. Your liability is the same as any other citizen. IROCC and being a former CPD offricer gives you no extra rights or protection . As far as civil liability, you are on your own. City has nothing to do with you.
Anyone else keeping track of the open positions,
2 Chief Spots (Kirby/Skahill)
3 Commanders (Gorman/OGrady/Rousell)
2 Capts (Matula/Calhouhn)
Doesnt that eliminate the extra Capains he made last year? Time for a new list?

As a retired guy I would only get involved if related to the guy facing death. I was given a piece of paper in my retirement package that detailed what police powers I had in retirement: NONE
Call 911 or take a big chance. Imagine dude's family suing you for not calling the police but instead lighting up their rocket scientist family member. Imagine the picture of his cap and gown wearing cross-eyed dopey looking self on TV. Imagine all the LINK card holders talking to Channel 2, "He didn't have to kill Kwontrell, he coulda called da poleese!"
Good luck. I carry to protect me and my family only.
