Traffic Deaths Up Again

  • Traffic deaths on Illinois roads rose slightly for a second straight year in 2013, according to preliminary data from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

As of New Year's Eve, there were 973 crash fatalities in 2013 compared with 956 fatalities in 2012, a nearly 2 percent increase. That uptick adds to a 4 percent rise last year, when the death toll of 956 compared with 918 in 2011.
  • 2012 Illinois Traffic fatalities - 956
  • 2012 Illinois Homicides - 744
  • ---
  • 2011 Illinois Traffic fatalities - 918
  • 2011 Illinois Homicides - 781
2013 numbers should be pretty similar.

We have yet to hear anyone screaming to ban cars, trucks, motorcycles and all manner of vehicle traffic, even though they're provably more dangerous than gun, knives, bludgeons, etc.

Simpletons and tiny-brains will insist that gun are designed to kill people and vehicles are simply meant to move people and goods from one place to another. But for something created with a benign purpose, they kill far more often than something purportedly kills by its very existence - something we don't acknowledge as being factual in any way, shape or form.

I like the signs on the Ryan that keep a daily tab of the traffic deaths. Usually increases by 2 or 3 a day. Doesn't seem to keep people from driving like assholes though.

"Simpletons and tiny brains" will want to ...

install more RED LIGHT CAMERAS

install more SPEED CAMERAS

install more SPEED BUMPS.

install more TRAFFIC LIGHTS

install more STOP SIGNS (and get the ones that can issue tickets)

install more TRAFFIC CIRCLES

install more CUL DU SACS

and I would be wiling to bet installing POT HOLES and an .05 DUI Standard.

But, hire MORE POLICE...never!

...and how is that Drivers' License for Illegals going? I haven't seen one yet.

Isn't anyone in the media going to bring up how many shootings there were?

How much VRI money was spent to cut out 50 or so murders?

For not paying shit in taxes--the Amish seem to be getting the Lion's share of police service.

How much have quieter districts crime rates risen? 016 had two home invasions and a street abduction/rape in less than 4 days. A shooting on Astor Street last week. Give the people who pay the bils in this town so service.

Medical science, trauma centers, good paramedic care all add up to people surviving wounds that would have been fatal, even 5-10 years ago.

How many Agg Batt-Firearms are now hopeless cripples on a public dole for the rest of their lives, living in wheelchairs and wearing a colostomy bag?

The population of the city is about a million people less than it was in 1965....the homicides per 1,000 residents is what really matters.

That said--give me another fucking ribbon, I want to look like a North Korean General before I retire.

PS---Fuck You Garry and Fuck You More Rahm,,,,thank you

The TV commercials that they're running are interesting. They equate DUI drivers with not wearing a seat belt.

They quote some number of people killed, not saying whether that's Illinois, nation or worldwide, then the usual "cops are cracking down"-type nonsense.

Apparently Obamacare MUST work. They have to reduce the number of people making claims by forcing them to maintain their health, hence increased seatbelt enforcement, a leading killer of otherwise healthy, young people who need to be paying INTO Obamacare. not draining it.

traffic fatalities on the rise and what do they do. they raise the speed limits on the illinois highways of course.

some might argue that's like handing out extended clips to gun owners....ya know.

politicians..so.so worried for our safety..

[or it could be that they are only worried about their next campaign contribution from the lobbyist that owns them -- effing puppets]

I'm incredibly happy to see that a good amount of CPD officers are encouraging/supporting concealed carry. In an age without enough police protection/manpower (thanks to our wonderful mayor and alder-creatures), the citizens must protect themselves.

I once got into a debate with an anti-gun type in-law. I said, alcohol related traffic accidents kill many more people than all firearms combined. I then said that breath interlocks should be required to be retrofitted into every car to save lives. I was told that was government intrusion and overkill. I said it is as logical as you banning guns. I was told I was a fascist.

Get Real. Cars, trucks, and motorcycles are not a threat to the elite ruling class, ie. the government. Guns in the hands of malcontents, revolutionaries, and anti-government groups are. Guns are an even bigger threat if the people carrying the guns know how to use them effectively. It is much more difficult for a government to suppress and rule an armed population.

Its the driving skills of many on the road. Probably about a third of the state doesn't even have a driver's license and the rest just get passed on the simple state test. (as long as you know the signs that's all that matters)

Hope more people train and purchase handguns, would put the thugs where they belong in the ground. Civilian readers when do you stop shooting? When the gun is empty, 2 in chest 1 or 2 in head should do it, less likely lawsuit win unless you leave the attacking animal alive then real problems! The law of the jungle kill or be killed!

There isn't any regulation other than buying a set of license plates for a jalopy and then set out on the road with bald tires, one headlight and no wipers to eventually plow into some insured driver.
Now that more and more idiots are flocking to the Sanctuary State to get a License & Link (just in time for the March primary) expect more DUI usuals crossing oncoming lanes, driving the wrong way and those fleeing crimes.
Wear your seatbelt.

Kind of traffic related. Channel 2 reports at 11 AM 2Jan14 that Mayor Rahm has tweeted that he is on top of the snow removal efforts because he has dispatched 'quick fix plows' to the city's streets. That is he has 60 garbage trucks fitted with snow plows on the streets to battle the snow. Having lived in the city my entire life, I can tell you that this has been done for over 50 years. You offer us nothing new Rahm. Nothing at all.

Right on the Button SCC. So many being killed in traffic fatalities, and not a word about it by the lieing, Communist Mainstream News Media. The Regines Agenda of Lies and distortion of Reality are now in almost full swing with the nothin but Lies obamacrats and their tools, the Commie-dia running the Show. The good part is though, people aren't buying what these LIARS are selling.

Comparing traffic fatalities and homicides without the proper context is misleading.

The average American driver logs about 13,000 miles in a year (source - http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/ohim/onh00/bar8.htm). Assuming the same average and five million drivers in Illinois, that would be about 65 billion miles driven per year. That works out to about 66 million miles per fatality.

It's safe to say that one is several orders of magnitude more likely to be a homicide victim than to die in a traffic accident.

Where would the numbers be if we didn't have our smartphones in our hands, our bluetooths in our ears, our 7" display on our dashboard telling us some nonsense, and the BluRay/DVD player running the latest movie? Just try and do the speed limit on any city street. 20 is about all you'll get with the distracted driving.

George Ryan properly went to prison, but nobody wants to examine the ugly fact that so many of those people that he licensed for bribes were illegals.

Should we imprison the entire legislature for doing as much by allowing illegals to obtain licenses?

PPO just talk to the FTO about how his driving is making you nervous and ask him of he would slow down or how about you ask to drive when you work with him so that you learn the area you are working in. Go to the source before you reach out for help or you will be seen as a rat or a whiney little bitch. Not a good way to start your career considering you have only just begun.

Off topic but on too...more police officers died in the US in 2013 due to traffic fatalities than by any other means. 46 in traffic accidents, 33 by gunshot and 32 by other means. I'm a retired Sgt now but I think of all of you all the time. And worry. 52 EOW during my 26 year career.

PLEASE put down those phones, buckle up and watch out for the other guy. You have to get there to be able to help.

God bless you all.

The tweet was sent from Rahm's ACCOUNT, probably by some staffer. It's unlikely he tweeted much of anything from Indonesia.
Note, today, the head of Streets and San said Rahm's on the phone to him several times a day about the snow. Unlikely he's making those calls from Chicago, though.
For all that talk about transparency, he's a very secretive guy.

Write a few and maybe you can change the driving behavior of a few bad drivers and reduce the fatality rates.

Or do like most of the blue shirts; cry, moan and do nothing.
