Something is Missing Here
- Police are investigating whether the same men bound two women and ransacked their Northwest Side homes.
One of the incidents happened around 7:30 p.m. Monday and the other around 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to police. The home are three miles apart.
In the first incident, in the 5200 block of North Mobile Avenue in the Jefferson Park neighborhood, a woman heard a knock and, assuming it was her husband, opened her door. Two men pushed their way inside but the woman later told police she heard three different voices.
The men tied her with a cord they found in the home and put her in the back of the house while they ransacked rooms and stole money and electronics, police said.
In the second incident, a 67-year-old woman was hit in the face after two men broke into her home in the 3700 block of North Oconto Avenue in the Belmont Heights neighborhood. The woman freed herself from the restraints and ran to a neighbor's home. The neighbor called 911.
The article goes on to interview eye-and-ear-witnesses but seems to leave out some very important information. Can you guess what it is? It's the Tribune after all, and the comments are closed:

- “There were two men, but I guess about a half an hour before they came, two girls rang her door bell and she opened the door for them and they asked if someone named Anna lived there. She said, ‘No, no. There’s nobody here by that name.’ They left, walked north down the street and then a half an hour later, these guys showed up.”
So how about a description of the suspected accomplices? Nope. Not even a hint. So if you see any nondescript individuals of either gender wandering around the north side, keep a sharp eye on them.

By the time she dispatched the call to 016 tact they were long gone. Same crew came back later to do the H.I.

I called the police and they came 45 minutes later. And, this was after I called three times for them to come out.

I noticed this trend about a year ago. I was listening to WBBM 780 AM. At the top of the hour they broadcast the national news. They mentioned some Asian guy in Queens, New York stabbed and killed four family members. Then I went home and on CNN and MSNBC home page the Asian guy's story and his mug shot was all over the place. Then whenever a white guy commits a violent crime, his mug shot and his race and what he did is all over the news. But when it's the usual suspects, the media won't mention their race. A fact is a fact; the majority of violent crime is committed by male blacks between the ages of 16 and 29.

This has happened to me multiple times. I called in a suspicious person. The guy was wearing a ski mask in early November and went into a Subway restaurant and he kept his ski mask on. The call taker didn't like the fact that I mentioned he had dark complexion (I could see his neck and through the eye hole). She argued with me and refused to dispatch a car. Another time, in the middle of the day at like 1:30 PM on a school day I told her there were six male black kids walking around. I told her they are supposed to be in school. She told me "how do you know, maybe they are being home schooled, or maybe they are sick and are walking around". I couldn't fucking believe it.
BLACK, BLACK, BLACK. Why is this a word we are not allowed to use anymore? Is it off-limits? Is it racist to say the word black? What the eff is wrong with people? I've had enough. be safe officers.
The paper is made to sell ads.
But if you have ever talked to a reporter they pretend the have a calling to unmask the truth and fight corruption.

In 18 yrs I've probably dialed 911 a handful of times. Just recently I've had to call twice, nothing major, but still worthy of a call. Both times I was in awwww how poor and unprofessional the call taker was. I thought some of the dispatcher are hard to understand, I had no idea what the fu** they were saying and one even hung up on me. Lol, only this city
Watched the news about the incident at the Orange line where the woman was raped and driven to several ATM's to get money. No description of the offender was given. Thought it was very unusual not to give a description of someone who is in your vehicle, for some time, whilst visiting ATM's draining your account. How could you not describe anything about the offender that could be reported on TV? Or, is it just the news people afraid to say he is a male white, black, or Hispanic? Shit. Other than the gender of the offender which is obviously right in front of you, the next thing you see is the color of the person. Why is that so hard to say? Fortunately, I see by today's paper that the offender is in custody, but he also raped another woman. Geez. Was the omission of any offender description due to the victim not actually seeing him, or is it fear of political correctness which is ridiculous.

If I was the victim from Oconto I would sue the calltaker personally for gross negligence. I've only called 911 a handful of times but EVERY TIME it's some ignorant calltaker and getting service is like pulling teeth. Recently, when the copper arrived I repeated to him what I told 911 and he said, "Wow. That is not at ALL what she gave me."
I'm sure there are good, competent calltakers down there but I have yet to get one on the phone. WTF.

As a P/O and a mother who is also alone in the house all day with babies, my advice is GET A GUN. I don't answer the door without it.
OEMC is loaded with church people who are members of the previous director Cortez Trotters church. They are incompetent haters who will not give northsiders the proper police service. They have Supervisors and W/C's all civilians who are supposed to monitor the calls, but they just hang out like a social club. I once called up there and identified myself as a Sgt. because a dispatcher gave one of my cars some crap, he challenged me to come down there, I did and when I approached him he begin to backpeddle and shit his pants, they asked me to leave or the would get a number, I told them go right ahead and called them all out, a trip 2 days later to see the deputy regarding my conduct was taken , a little bit of concern was expressed about my temperament but I survived and it was all worth it. I have said for years bring the police back into that job.

Take a good Basic Pistol class from an NRA Instructor. Learn the safe handling and use of a handgun and then keep it close by when you are home alone during the day. Never open the door and call 911 if you think something is wrong.

I like the machete idea, but kind of messy. And if you don't answer the door, someone may try to get in anyway. I say get an FOID, training, and a gun. Protect yourself and your children at any costs. Too many women are victimized, and too many offenders know a mother (fathers, grandparents, etc. too) would do anything to protect their kids and grandkids, so might go along with whatever the offender tells them to do in the hopes they will not get hurt. The best thing is not to let it get that far. Get a gun while you can.
The commenter at 08:50:00 AM was lucky. My neighbor was broken in to the week before Christmas while she was home. The dispatcher did not ask for any details such as if she was hurt etc. The police took 90 minutes to show up. Yay 19th District.

First, maybe your kids need a dog? A big, protective, woofy dog.
Second, get a gun. Sprays and minitasers and all that other silly stuff won't stop two offenders. Ever. (One maybe, but not two, and now you've made 'em mad.) If you're worried about being legal, get an air pistol (yes, they can do damage at close range) until you can get that permit, but in the long run, get a REAL gun. It's your legal right to have it, so don't bury it in some basement locker where you can't get to it when you need it, either.
There was a string of strongarm back yard robberies going on in my very nice neighborhood 15yrs ago and I made a point of carrying my snub in my pocket whenever I left the house or answered my door. (It's easier to shoot through your jacket pocket than to pull the gun out and take aim.) It's become a lifelong habit. No gun in the purse; no fumbling for it. Learn to use it, learn to secure it from the kids and don't be Suzy nice-girl about using it.

About the dispatchers/call takers- few good ones that are worth their salt, and love working with them. That being said, someone needs to do closer oversight with the operations at oemc. It is becoming more apparent that the racial makeup of the caller dictates the priority/urgency of the event. I notice how call takers will downgrade a situation and even disregard a job when it is obvious that the complainant is white, and at the same time, they will expedite calls to dispatch when the caller is black. Many times we will get an event classified as an assault ip or batt ip, but upon arrival we find that the actual job was exaggerated or completely different from what was dispatched, resulting in answering a non-priority call first, usually for some ghetto bs drama. In contrast, we will arrive to a job where the call has been held, sometimes up to an hour before being dispatched. The offender is gone, of course, but the caller, who is usually white, seldom complains. Many times, it will be a robbery j/o, batt j/o, a real assault ip, etc. and then the victim either is told to call police when they are home, or they call from home after waiting so long on scene. Can't remember how many times I've had to explain to an irate complainant/vict who demands to know why it took us an hour/ half hour/ 45 min to arrive that we were just dispatched for this job 3 min ago. I advise them to file a complaint, but most of the time these are working class people that probably suck it up and move on, because nothing seems to improve. This practice has become so blatant that it could only occur with the blessing of the administration, including the mayor.

To the female LE who suggested an air gun - I thought that's illegal in Chicago?
Also, if I have an encounter and discharge the air gun in self - defense, will the cops give me a hard time when I report it to 911 after the fact? Is CPD rank and file generally pro-citizen on guns used in self-defense?
In 18 yrs I've probably dialed 911 a handful of times. Just recently I've had to call twice, nothing major, but still worthy of a call. Both times I was in awwww how poor and unprofessional the call taker was. I thought some of the dispatcher are hard to understand, I had no idea what the fu** they were saying and one even hung up on me. Lol, only this city

And, of course, when you were treated so unprofessionally, you immediately filed a complaint, right? To get their bad behavior on the record, right?
It's the only way to get rid of the incompetents. Otherwise, get used to it. Complaining about it here doesn't accomplish anything.
First.... If I rather say awwww then awe, deal with it.
Secondly, how far do you, as a know it all, think a complaint would go?? You obviously have never delt with these people because if you have yould know that they're usually ignorant, incompetent and speak their own language. So basically it's a "norm" for them.

Do yourself a favor google ISP FOID. Fill out the app and mail it today,. While waiting take an NRA Basic Pistol class. Call gun stores in the area for this. Keep a bowie type knife on your person whenever answering the door. If you ever open the door to someone you do not know and trust, stand to the side of the door while unlocking it. If someone bumrushes in. He will be off balance and you are to stick him and not stop until he's very well ventilated.
