CPS Not Following Own Rules

  • CPS has spent the last week touting what officials say is a big decrease in suspensions, culminating with a school visit and press conference by Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Tuesday, where the mayor declared that curbing suspensions was just the “right thing to do.”

But a confidential document obtained by Catalyst Chicago shows that suspension data from last year is more troubling than something to boast about. Last year, young elementary-age students were suspended far more than in previous years.

Plus, the racial disparity in suspensions of black students compared to whites and Latinos—long a problem in CPS and something that current CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett says she cares personally about—has widened over the past few years.
The people running the Catalyst-Chicago website seem to know what they're doing - stats, studies, and digging into the numbers like investigative journalists used to do. And willing to call out the political bullshit, too.

What these studies never say is WHAT the suspensions were for. Like Traffic tickets. A Stop Sign and a DUI are written on a TRAFFIC TICKET. SO if the white guy got the DUI his PUNISHMENT would be worse than a black guy with a stop sign but BOTH were written tickets.

This "Disparity" shit has to stop until they show us WHY these measures were taken.

Maybe they DESERVED to get expelled!

It would be hilarious if CPS administration, CPD & CFD exempt echelon, all the smart m/fers at City Hall and the whorish media ass lickers and cum-catchers all woke up one morning and realized they've outsmarted themselves into the same corner with their bullshit?

The narrative is poised toward the willfully ignorant, not people who like to think for themselves...

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you and may posterity forget ye were our countrymen!"

-Samuel Adams

If the CPS student population is composed of close to 90% minorities now, how can the suspension rate for non-whites be disproportionate?

wasn't it you guys that posted erck Holder's directive from the DOJ through arnie duncan's DOE to public school administrators across america to start giving blax and hispanix more room to be as disruptive as they want due to cultural considerations?

Look it up. They want white kids held to the normal standards of disciplinary action, but kids of color should be allowed to be louder and more unruly because it may have to do with income and language, rather than a kid acting a fool on purpose, which may explain the racial disparity among those who end up labeled "behavior and disciplinary concerns."

Not kidding.

You gotta love the liberals...cut the suspensions for black students and that then indicates there are no longer any behavioral problems. What about the students that aren't disruptive or constantantly breaking rules? How will the disruptive kids remaining in class affect their education?

Instead of suspending kids, start making their parents attend class' with them.

Did you read the article you put up in the link? Its all leftist bulls**t. The stats don't say why the kids are getting suspened just that they are. They are claiming racism because of the numbers. Using their logic all of CPD is racist because of the statistical population of the county jail.

I know at the CPS school where I work, suspensions have decreased, but bad behavior has increased. Students caught on early that with this new CPS Code of Conduct little to nothing is being done even when they do things like cursing at teachers, walking out of class, or destroying school property. More details of what I call the Boomerang Policy are written in this post.

A former teacher at a public school that worked, and was all minority.

Bathroom check two freshmen one junior bones rolling and money on the floor, perfect bust.

Down to security at this time most disciplinarians would send them on a 5 day suspension. Not at my school.

To be fair they got a choice.roll the dice once more ,or take the suspension.

Well, maybe the reason more blacks are getting suspended is the same reason more blacks get arrested and sent to prison; they're the ones violating the rules/law. I know the truth hurts people like Prickwinkle, but it is what it is. Learn some personal responsibility if you want those numbers to change.

Did they ever consider perhaps black students were committing more offenses than the white and hispanic students? Gee that might account for the difference in numbers.

The only thing that gets entered into this system is the suspensions. The other disciplinary actions are not entered so it would make sense that the numbers would look bad.

I have always been against suspended kids from school. That is what they want, to stay home or run the streets. Start by using detention during school hours. Hire off duty cops to monitor the detention rooms. Suspensions and alternate schools just feed on themselves and make the problem worse. The teachers give up on the kids way too soon.

No good, the suspension rate for these parents would be too high.

The law is what the attorney general says it is. Eric Holder says too many people of color are being punished as opposed to whites. It must stop. Punish two whites for every person of color. Simple, now do it.

Oh and there is a video message from Arne Duncan

Obama's Department of Justice, under career race-baiter Eric Holder, issued a stark warning for schools across the country. It's time to end the "racial disparity" in classrooms. Apparently, it is now "racist" to single out black students for misbehaving in the classroom. No longer is it acceptable to punish a black student, or other minority student, for behaviors that would negate suspension or strong disciplinary action.

The unruly criminal students are not stupid. They know the brain dead jello splined liberals will let them off the hook no matter what they do. This is why parents won't send their kids to public school. No discipline. These good parents will sacrifice to give their kids a good chance in life.

Well according to the Chicago way, if the truth paints a minority race in a bad picture then it must be racist. The entire CPS is racist and must hate black children. Oh the humanity. Off topic, taxes are going up, don't look over here.

Eric Holder calls it"Disparate Outcomes". He passed guidelines regulating the punishment. If you violate the guidelines you are in violtation of the law and will be punished. Also, if black applicants for jobs have felony convictions and you can't fill the quotas, you must stop doing background checks until quotas are filled. Under penalty of law.

Suspensions are like school compstat. Here is why cps schools fail: some students act like jagoffs. Parents do not care, if schools suspension rate it over a small percentage, the schools report card and level gets dropped from downtown, possibly putting it on probation. Schools that try to suspend students are denied by downtown (downtown controls almost all behavior decisions). School is told to deal with said jagoffs with no resources and not granting a suspension. Said jaggoffs have no consequences. Others that see lack of consequences and follow and slowly start to misbehave, and get caught up in the wash. Standards disintegrate. Kids stop learning. Charter schools throw these kids out. When they get tossed, cps has to take them. A regular school cant throw kids out without a stack of papers as tall as them.

I support detention halls in school.

Beyond race politics, I suspect another reason for the relaxed school discipline standards is that every time little Johnny is counted as in school for attendance purposes, the school district receives per diem funding on head count basis. No cash for absent students sitting at home while on suspension.

It is all about the funding formula.

Speaking of epic failures,Team Policing in 024 has set an all time low. The already dreadful morale of the P.O.'s on all 3 Watches has bottomed out. It is a Square Peg, squeezed into a Round Hole and without sufficient Manpower,Radios or Vehicles it is going to get someone hurt.

The school I am in does a lot of in school suspensions. The dean at that school adjudicates a lot of stuff including criminal behavior that they don'tell the police about because he feels that the student has potential and doesn't want them locked up. Yes it is racially motivated decision making by the dean. It is a 95% black school run by black CPS employees. The principle is a gem, fair to all and does her job without reproach and never interferes with police action. She never professes to know how to do anyone's job but her own, that in which she excells in. I do my best to stick my nose in everything and do my job because there are a lot of students who are there to learn and deserve an education by caring, hard working educators.

Trayvon Martin was caught with stolen jewelry, "burglar tools"/a screwdriver, and marijuana by Miami Dade School Police. But "racist" Miami Dade schools had too many black students being arrested, so Trayvon was suspended for a few weeks instead. And suspended Trayvon was sent by his Mommy to live with Daddy and Daddy's GF in Sanford FL.

The Miami Schools did not do Trayvon a great favor by suspending him instead of arresting him. Trayvon was run out of town and then he had the opportunity to be killed in Sanford.

You're full of sh..T. So STFU.

You seem to know everything including how the police officers should be babysitting this garbage.

Why don't you take some this spawn home and try raising them yourself since according to you "Teachers have given up on them"

I agree with you forget the suspensions, put them in jail!

The majority of the offenses are of a criminal nature and are swept under the rug by CPS admin.

If you want to cut down on suspensions in CPS schools, then do what Taft High School is doing. Expel students and not suspend them. Last year, Taft led all CPS schools with 100 expulsion hearings, by far the most in the city.

And, it gets better as 87 out of those 100 expulsion hearings involved a minority student.

But, what can you do when a white kid comes to school and obeys the rules, while a jagoff minority student wears their drawers down their ass, mother fucks the teacher, and doesn't come to class or do their work?
