More Koschman Fallout
There is now a timeline of the behind-the-scenes actions of the Department and who was calling/texting/e-mailing whom:
- After the Chicago Sun-Times began the investigation that led to former Mayor Richard M. Daley’s nephew pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter, Daley’s administration began scrambling to write a police report that falsely concluded Richard J. “R.J.” Vanecko was defending himself when he threw the punch that killed David Koschman.
City Hall’s 59-day investigation involved 16 police officials — from top brass to detectives — as well as Daley’s law department and the mayor’s press office, including one of Daley’s closest confidantes, Jacquelyn Heard.
Daley’s press office released the findings only after police officials met with Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez’s chief of staff, who apparently agreed Vanecko shouldn’t be charged.
So the mayor's people were kept in the loop pretty deeply. Webb says there's no evidence that Shortshanks participated in these exchanges, but when everyone involved was either hired by, worked for, or was promoted at the behest of one guy, one political Machine, well...let's not kid each other. This is still Chicago.
Also, the ASA who "threw away" the files from the case resigned - six weeks ago:
Also, the ASA who "threw away" the files from the case resigned - six weeks ago:
- The prosecutor who declined to charge former Mayor Richard M. Daley’s nephew in the killing of David Koschman — and apparently “threw away” the case file — has left the Cook County state’s attorney’s office, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.
“Darren O’Brien no longer works in the [state’s attorney’s office]. The state’s attorney accepted his resignation letter approximately six weeks ago,” said Sally Daly, a spokeswoman for Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.
According to county records, O’Brien, 56, retired on Dec. 30, as Daley nephew Richard J. “R.J.” Vanecko was awaiting trial for causing Koschman’s death. O’Brien had worked in the state’s attorney’s office since 1984, when he was hired under Daley, who was state’s attorney before he became mayor.
For the naive, Daley used to be the State's Attorney for Cook County, and when he moved up, he put his deputy Dick Devine in charge and kept a tight hold of the leash. But remember, there's no evidence that Daley knew anything. Ever. At any time. But when you control all the levers of power, and everyone knows what's expected of them before they're even appointed to a spot (elections being a mere formality), well then, you have insulated yourself from ever having to actually having to engage in something as sundry as covering up a homicide.
Down the memory hole everything goes, with only the police taking any heat in the media. As predicted, this case is going to be the new Burge or Abbate hammer with which to beat the Department.

Al Capone did the same thing
It sounds like in a more geographical limited way, the mayor of Chicago is much like the president of the U.S. His every wish is law and he can get away with doing whatever he wants to do.
Everybody who fancies himself to be a somebody, is DESPERATELY running as fast and far as they can trying to put some distance between themselves and this case...
This can only mean that the feebs are sniffing around...
"Low hanging fruit" (unclouted bluesuits and detectives) be-fucking-ware...
Not one clouted bosshole, mayoral staffer or member of CCSAO will end up with so much as a hair out of place.
The outcome was designed to leave coppers holding the shit-bag while the behind the scene people who orchestrated this have immunity, impunity and plausible deniability...
He who squats under cover of darkness will have his funky crime revealed eventually...

"Hey! WTF are you doing?"
Somebody somewhere has arms long enough to yank the chain and turn the lights on...
Doherty and Donahue are part of the Daley's democrat machine for mike Madigan. They pushed Fran Hurly to be state rep against a policeman running for the same office in the primary. They pushed Fran Hurley, the 19th ward secretary over the policeman, a lawyer. They also didnt back Lt. Garrido for Alderman so he lost by 60 - 65 votes. They are both playing politics at you expense to benefit themselves. DUMP THESE TWO.
This sounds like exactly like the untouchables movie.
Can't really point point out the connection but the almighty daley had everything under control.

And you probably sleep at night.I bet your sleep patterns might not be as good now.oh and by the way how is Jon Burge?..the people that went after Burge are all over this.and to all a good night.
When corruption becomes institutionalized and the criminal tyrants legalize their crimes because they make the law, all is lost.
There is no difference between a banana republic and Chicago. None, whatsoever. Now go and vote for that socialist Machine, fools.
Why do you think they hate that you have guns? They all own guns. But they know that the discovery of their high crimes threatens them. They want you disarmed for precisely that reason.
The land of the free, the home of the brave. The land of liberty and justice for all. The land that our forefathers created to keep government from infringing on the rights of individuals.
The land that corrupt, criminal socialists have completely destroyed. They used the system to destroy it.
O Brien retires with a full county pension at what I'm guessing should be at least $100,000 a year. He jumped on the grenade and he gets his reward.
History lesson. The Democrats are the party of the KKK. Blacks are conditioned to vote for them.
Republicans are the party of Lincoln. Blacks are conditioned not to vote for them.
Ever wonder why?
WTF, Either Daley junior never used a phone or email or people really walked in step with his commands. The best book I ever read in school was Boss by Mike Royko. In essence, many people owed Daley Sr favors and no matter how illiterate the son seemed, he got paid. Literally.
Can we fu#@ing discipline Cirone, Walsh and even Andrews already? Andrews sends an e-mail saying "very well done". For a regular Agg Batt/ that turned into Homicide? What a joke. Officers are embarrassed for the police department. Daley having knowledge/influence goes without saying but hes untouchable. Honestly Rahm, they all should get a pass? Disgusted beyond words!
WWJD?
What Would Jody Do?
It's all Bush's fault
DW should have been fired a long time ago.
If anyone conspired with city hall to undermine this investigation they should be fired.
Two people mentioned in this report, have close ties to the FOP. James McCarthy, who was recently promoted to Sgt, and assigned to the 009 district, was a field rep for the last several years. Terry Collins, who serves on the Board of Directors, is a trustee. Both men are attorneys who worked in Legal Affairs, for Deb Kirby. It's all legit.
How in the world did Jack O'Malley ever get elected in this rat-infested county?
Opus Dei or Opus Daley-you know who they are, strategically placed within the department, protecting, dodging, shielding, sacrificing themself, keeping a few steps ahead. Some News Media are members. And they will all go to Heaven!

2/11/2014 12:14:00 AM
It was only people who took the exam, 100% people; no canines, horses, cats or rainbow trouts, only people, so I'd say, in short, 100% or the test takers were people.
Devine's allegiance to Daley was one reason he knowingly accepted a guilty plea from Alstory Simon and released Anthony Porter for a double homicide, a move that threw every cop under the bus from that moment on.
Who is the weirdo posting 1239 to 1249? Creepy.

Yep. that's S.O.P. for any 'criminal organization', for example:
-- a) Adolph's NSDAP (Nazi party) lackeys handling of 'The Jewish Question' for him.
-- b) John Gotti whacking James McBratney so Gotti could 'make his bones' in the Cosa Nostra and move up the power ladder (McBratney made the mistake of his life when he kidnapped Carlo Gambino's nephew 'Manny').
-- c) Obama and his *army* of communist lackeys at the DOJ, IRS, ICE, FBI, ATF, DEA, TSA, Homeland Security, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum.
-- d) last but not least ... the criminal enterprise right here at home called the Illinois democratic party and better known as 'The Machine'.
No memo or written order is needed. The 'grunts on the ground' know what's expected of them by the 'boss'.
Hey McJersey said it himself he's got your back no one is going to be moved! What a show of support from the supe and Rahmulus!! J-fled would have turned this over to his Fed buddies......
Darren O'Brien has left the office? Start building more prisons. the criminals best friend is gone.

Wake up people the Bosses were all in cahoots on this one and the shit rolled down hill as usual.
There is a special place in hell for all of these lying criminals! The revolving door of corruption and coverups continues. Why wasnt' Mark Altman(CFD) arrested and charged with aggravated battery when he pushed down a police officer not only once, but twice while on a job? Instead, didn't he get promoted? And the p.o. needed two neck surgeries.
They wll all pay in the end!

The only one of these cities that has a few redeeming qualities is Austin. Houston is an absolute dump. They are big cities, with all the same big city problems. Why would I leave Chicago's traffic, exploding Mexican population, crime, corruption, smog and lousy schools to experience the same things, plus a house with no basement, (that's right, no basements in Texas because of the unstable subsurface), fire ants, no neighborhoods like we have here, minimum wage jobs, huge water problems, and where it's brown all year because nothing grows in Texas. No thanks.
Regardless of their level on the totem pole, once people learned the nephew of shanks was involved, they did not have to be directly told what to do, they inherently KNEW what to do and that was cover the nephew or suffer the wrath of shanks.
Can't really point point out the connection but the almighty daley had everything under control.

Absolutely true and please, please, please be true, respectively.
WOW, those daley guys make these Henerals/Comandantes down south here seem like boy scouts.....pitiful...
nothing will happen to any of the officers/detectives involved in this--- but they can drag an old retired man with cancer up here from florida and put him in prison because some cutthroats and murderers claim he tortured them a couple of decades ago....
Over ten PAGES of the report discuss what the "lying, malicious and corrupt" police could be charged with; only three sentences to state that the CCSAO did nothing wrong. Period.
The coverup of the "coverup". The report leaves more questions than answers.
But hey, it's all legit now.
Finally, after all these years, this POS Darren O'Brien, has met his Waterloo.
I've been retired a long time, but I can still remember calling Felony Review and this moron responding. It was like maybe I dialed wrong and they sent a Public Defender.
We once had a witness to a homicide who was reluctant to cooperate, but finally, after hours of interviews, he finally came around. We called for an ASA and O'Brien responded. All of our hours of investigation went up in smoke as it took O'Brien all of 5 minutes to talk the witness out of testifying. O'Brien was threatened with arrest and the charges were subsequently approved.
I am hoping further actions are taken against any of the police officers involved who are still active.

Well, if it's the POLICE that are the problem, then it sure would be a shame if the entire department came down with the flu and whoever thinks they can do better can drive their happy asses all over town doing the God awful stuff you guys end up putting with.
"Jim Gilger spanos salemme dean Andrews Lt dennis Walsh its looks like you will have some explaining to do.haha go run to Phil Cline now.isn't he your guy.I remember you gentlemen lmao always said that.you commit official misconduct allegedly and allegedly cover a murder. WHAT!?!?!?!?!/
The only one that should be charged with obstruction of justice and official misconduct is none other than Darren O' Brien. He had the final word on charges and since it was a homicide the detectives can not get an override on the states attorney. And why would he destroy the case file? Even the FBI should be able to figure that one out.
219 S. Dearborn St the Webb Report ....enough said..............all of you are targets of a federal investigation! Even former mayor Daley has gotten word and wind of this federal ongoing investigation! Anita! Anita! where are you!
WTF, Either Daley junior never used a phone or email or people really walked in step with his commands. The best book I ever read in school was Boss by Mike Royko. In essence, many people owed Daley Sr favors and no matter how illiterate the son seemed, he got paid. Literally.
He never had to say anything. Why did you think they let his office and CPD know who was involved. He doesnt have to say anything. Its implied. If your a boss and say it comes to your attention that Daley's nephew wants a transfer or a promotion, do you really think Daley has to call you and ask for it. My guess if you dont do it, his people call you if they can find where you were dumped to
I'm still amazed that Chief Rivera is still a Chief in I.A.D.
Why aren't people going to prison for covering up a agg batt that turned to homicide?
Resigned or retired? Thirty years is enough for 80%;would you stick around this circus or jump out of the clown car as soon as you could? Just sayin'..

Nothing will happen to them, it is the Shitghetto way. How much money has Andrew's parents donated to the Democratic Machine and Daley.
Just like Little Ronnie Huberman. How many jobs has he had with the clout his family bought. What a sick joke this city really is.
And another thing, why shouldn't Vanecko pick his jail when Jessie Jackson Jr got to pick his Fed Pennitentary and have New Years dinner with the Warden and smoke cigars all night with Dennis Roman!
Anyone ever dealing with Darren O'Brien when he was in Felony Revue knows he's a tool.
I wish that Webb would follow up on all D O'B's phone and computer messages after the fact.
That would certainly lead him to notification to Alvarez, then Daley staffers and others who share accountability.
Sorry for your loss Mrs. Koschman.
Very sorry.
Speaking of sleazy politics, the hit job job on Rutherford is a new low. Rutherford of all the candidates is the most open to fix our pension mess fairly but was forced to deal with a direct attack highlighting his sexual orientation. I
don't care if he's Gay,Straight,White or Black he is saying the right things. Rauner is just plain rotten.
This will all fall on the cops. Their puppeteers are hidden behind a bombproof wall. Will coppers wake up and see that protecting these assholes just puts themselves in jeopardy ?
ASA's and Mayor's can take a beating in the press as well!
So you lied and ruined your reputation to cover up a murder for a Daley relative, bravo guys, well done......obviously the "best guys" we're put on the case....how do you sleep at night?
So you lied and ruined your reputation to cover up a murder for a Daley relative, bravo guys, well done......obviously the "best guys" we're put on the case....how do you sleep at night?
The chattering, wind-up dentures in the media don't seem to get that the chairman of Daley Inc. has no need to say a damned thing for all the behind the scenes scurrying to protect the royal nephew to happen.
Daley Inc. is a criminal syndicate that has corrupted the very spirit of public service and has written and enacted laws and ordinances to ensure and protect it's own existence in perpetuity.
The typical low information voter is too fucking stupid to be scared out of their wits/pissed the fuck off about the above statement.
Yeah... The greedy, corrupt, overpaid and underworked, sweet pension/early retirement having Cops have conspired for generations to ruin Chicago.
Right?
"Why are you Coppers so full of hatred and anger?"
Apparently our hatred and anger isn't quite enough to overturn the throughly rotten political and media corruptocracy that has destroyed Chicago beyond the hope and ability of mere mortal men to salvage, fix or repair.
Let it be known that true injustice bothers the hell out of the typical unclouted, trying to survive this job, Blue-Suited Copper.
Which was part of the allure for signing up so many years ago...
It was called giving a fuck.
Nowadays it can arguably be called an act of crazy to step through the CPD portal and resign yourself to working a shit-doo-doo job in a doomed city.
Let alone a doomed Police Department being intentionally repurposed away from fighting crime (no matter how many people are hurt/killed) while the very meaning of crime itself is being redefined for the sake of cynical politics...
As it is, the powers that be have very sucessfully managed to script and spin a narrative that the regular, trying his best to survive and do his job, (in spite of the many stumbling blocks and stymies put in his path by the media, Daley Inc., Rahm & Co. and a joyously low information public) throughly disenfranchised Chicago Copper as the source of all that ails this city.
"If only you guys would sit down, shut up and stop agitating because nobody cares what you think!"
Apparently some people do care because Site Meter has shown/is showing some very interesting "windows" that are opened on the world wide web to see just what those "big, dumb, brutal, racist, hateful, angry for no reason, politically conservative, ("Ugh! Disgusting!") mad because it isn't 1960 anymore" Chicago Cops are thinking/doing.
Chicago media.
National media.
City Hall.
Police HQ.
U.S. Government? (Really Now?)
Dept. Of Justice? (Of course.)
FBI? (Ditto.)
NYPD (Well duhh!)
Etc.
Honestly... For such high and mighty windows to be opened toward the rants and musings of a handful out of a handful of thousand of "big, dumb, brutal, racist, hateful, angry for no reason, politically conservative, ("Ugh! Disgusting!") mad because it isn't 1960 anymore" Chicago Cops?
Are we THAT MUCH OF A THREAT?
"GAHH! You Chicago Cops think too much of youselves! We hate you and we wish you would just go away already!"
No worries... The powers that be are working feverishly to make your wish come true.
It's like a WW2 military invasion/spy operation movie.
Mysterious people gathered around a large table with maps and charts...
"Where are The Police? What are they doing?"
There seems to be quite a bit of investure by the powers that be to keep tabs on/stay in front of "those wild-assed, free thinking coppers."
Why?
...Just curious.

Pretty embarrassing for CPD.
How does it "feeeeel" to work for one of the most corrupt organization in the Country ?
2/11/2014 AM
Garrido wouldn't have won even with the F.O.P. backing. He isn't going to win if he runs again either. This coming F.O.P. election is about our pension, not furthering your buddys agenda for personal gain. Please wait until after the election, then you can go harrass the F.O.P. about nonsense, kind of like John did to Sheilds because he didnt want to back his puppet.
As predicted, this case is going to be the new Burge or Abbate hammer with which to beat the Department.
Useful in that it gives the Corp. Counsel's office an "excuse" for not winning litigation against the CPD
Thank SSC for giving us this comment site. The sad truth is, other than making comments here, we have no power to change or do anything. Truth be known. A person who has never worked, and does not intend to, a person who is here illegally, has more power than we do. Powers to be, know he is a guarantee democratic voter. You are nothing but a city service employee. As soon as the powers to be figure out how to replace you with a private sector worker, your gone.
Man. The Dougherty haters are really a small bunch. Their crappy BS postings all sound exactly the same: wild, crazed, and unbelievable. Good luck with that guys. Those who pay attention know he's the only candidate who has ever done anything for the rank and file. Those who know realize he is far and away the best choice. Keep hating haters.
To the 2/11/2014 0351 am poster-
I get it. We would love to see Daley get slammed. But what the fuck? Why are you more interested in seeing other coppers get jammed up? Again, I get it, they're bosses and some of them may be full of themselves. But they are coppers! Shit can befall all of us, if you were in the cross hairs of some trouble, I dont think you'd appreciate other policemen asking for YOU to be disciplined.
Wonder if anyone received an honorable mention on this case or maybe even a promotion.
12:15AM, cost of living is cheaper down in Texas. There is more land out there to build. People are tired of snow.
Sam & Denis, yes, that is your career light blinking.
Daley knows nothing always---- doesn't remember, can't recall, never advised, never read..... KEEP VOTING DEMOCROOKED --- have them morons TAX more, add more CAMERAS,, more FINES, higher WATER bills..... but these infected ones will pay nothing cause we feed the animals
C'mon men. Anybody out there actually believe that we could get any 5 policeman on this job to piss on Daley if he was on fire? Put themselves at risk to help out a family member? Forget it. He is persona non grata among us and we all know it. Phil Cline told him to get fucked and quit. How is it plausible then that he conspires to help that little p.o.s. Silly. Literally, this is a complete distortion of reality by the Sun Times, etc., to try and make a something out of absolutely nothing instead of doing their real job of investigating the embarrassing and widespread corruption among nearly every elected official in this county. The real scandal is the collusion between the media and these officials. Based on his history, Dan Webb hates the police as much as anyone and he concluded that there was no evidence to charge anyone with any crime in regards to a cover up in the Koschman case. His statements that he "considered charges" against certain people is clearly a bullshit nod to the media that he dearly wanted to. Had there been any shred of proof you can bet he would have tried. The truth is that Koschman kid was drunk, being aggressive and looking for the ass kicking that he got. Did Vanecko overreact or fail to walk away when he could have? Maybe. Those facts were presented and the State refused charges. As in many, many cases. To Andrews, Walsh and Cirone. Those guys are the direct line up the chain of command and it is their job to review and correct reports. The fact that they approved, rejected or requested changes of any report is proof of nothing except they were doing what they are paid to do. Whatever personal beef someone may have with those guys, that is the truth. Those guys have done a tremendous amount of good for working policeman out there and are true friends to real policeman and anyone that knows them is aware of that fact. Any personal beefs can always be addressed to them in person. They are easy men to find and I'm sure they'd welcome the input. I doubt that anyone who hides behind a computer would have the courage to do so but that is what a real man/woman would do. Any here?
Much ado about nothing
I hope if there was a coverup that pos involved to get one way trip to police board. Fuck them.

2/11/2014 07:35:00 AM
Not the original poster, but did you actually read the report? If true it reflects really badly on the detectives as well as bosses and CCSA. There's really no way around it as sad as it is.
I have read Webb’s report three (THREE!) times, cover to cover. And, in regards to the 2004 investigation I believe Webb does a great disservice to the CPD officers involved and to the public. All the actions by CPD personnel (in 2004) that he outlines is non-criminal behavior. Yes mistakes were made. Very stupid mistakes, but none he lists are criminal. (We all know you can’t take assumptions and beliefs unsupported by real evidence to court).
Webb states in his report that “Prosecution is Barred by the Applicable Statute of Limitations” yet he never details any criminal behavior committed in 2004. By stating that the statute of limitations applies he implies criminal behavior yet he never outlines any. So, if there was criminal behavior wherein prosecution was barred by the statute of limitations why does he not outline it? And if there was no criminal behavior why not just say so? To make the CPD look bad and to justify his fee?
YAWN
Whatever. The States Attorney never charges cases like this.
The Daley's are good.
The Police's are bad.
The Cook Co States Atty and its wholly appointed, Machine endorsed, judiciary is dismissed from any wrong doing.
Let's name a street after him and build the grandest of parks, statuary likeness on every corner of Boul Mich, put him on a coin!

Couldn't agree more. Hate to see coppers getting trashed for doing their job though.
Thanks SCC for this forum. Andrews,Walsh and Cirone were doing there job? Really? Walsh should have been fired long ago and all are triple merit (Cirone not yet). Gilger and Spanos are decent Dets that were essentially handed a bar fight. I dont want to see coppers get in trouble but when people stick up for guys like Walsh and Cirone- remember why you came on the job people! Have some integrity and pride for God's sake.

If you are not a Detective or have never been you wouldn't know when you're handed a pile of high profile bull shit and told to clean it up. Were there mistakes made, Sure. Handled sloppily, Yup. But a cover up, no way!! Especially not for Daly. Jimmy G and Nick S are stand up guys and great Detectives. Sometimes, It is what is. Files get lost ALL the time. No thanks.

Mike Shields give up.
Election Ballots Go Out as Planned
Yesterday, suspended Lodge President Mike Shields file a lawsuit against the FOP demanding damages because Shields claims he is a whistle-blower. Shields also filed an emergency motion for injunctive relief, seeking to stop the FOP elections so he could be placed on the ballot. The Lodge was first notified of the court action late yesterday afternoon. The judge hearing Shields' "emergency" ordered that FOP file its response by 10:00 a.m. today, with a hearing set for 10:30 a.m. Our attorneys worked late into the night formulating our response and preparing affidavits for witnesses.
The case was heard late this morning and Shields' motion was denied. The FOP argued that the "emergency" was one that Shields himself created and the judge agreed, ruling that Shields filed his motion too late and had squandered his opportunity to be heard by the court. Ballots were mailed today.

Any here?

I couldn't agree more. Many in the news room don't seem write about the truth any more, but rather a perception that fits an intriguing narrative.
Look at the media and Homicide reporting. They seem to be intrigued with the low homicide rate and yet a public perception of crime being out of control.
Somewhere in there they refuse to look at the answer that's in front of their noses.
Instead of reporting on blatant anti-social behaviors and gangs, they focus on the police crime numbers.
The Homicide Watch is a daily article that follows the shootings, of which almost every single one is gang related, yet the narratives are heart-tugging, and sad; as if the gang and anti-social behavior component doesn't have any role.
Perhaps the media should get back on the street and REALLY investigate these crimes- you know find out WHY they happened - not how.
We have a gang war in full throttle throughout the city, yet the papers are filled with a perception of police misconduct and incompetence.
By the way Mr. Webb, Sun and Trib, those cops you suggested as incompetent (Walsh, Andrews, and Cirone) would blow any of you out of the water when it comes to a complete investigation, hands down.
Only in Chicago can a cop be a criminal and a criminal be a victim.
Everyone should read this report. Always, always, always remember that when push comes to shove, the bosses will stick together and push the copper into the cold.
The bosses changed the dicks' report. The bosses never stood up and took responsibility, so the dicks took the heat.
Never ever trust a Sgt or anyone above him.
D.A. Went up the chain in a very short time by leaps and bounds due to his family connect w/ Daley. He was never a detective, but miraculously became the Cmdr of Area Five Detectives then Deputy Chief of Dets along w/ the 130k plus $alary. This is what happens when city management po$itions are for $ale by shitty hall. This entire scenario just might bring down the Daley cabal of corruption. I hope Mrs. Koschman can find some peace.

I am hoping further actions are taken against any of the police officers involved who are still active.

Wow, how some want to lynch the police!
-Dictator Obama makes changes to a law that only congress can make and no outrage.
-Hillary leaves four Americans to die in Benghazi and nothing.
-Fast & Furious, IRS scandal, AP scandal- all "phony scandals"
Webb(who made a career prosecuting cops) found no evidence of a cover up. Let it go!
to 7:21 pm I disagree I dont think im stupid and I do believe the reason I say much ado about nothing is the simple fact you can write on this blog who you think will be the best FOP president. also you can complain about this job but the simple truth is you will continue to do the little that you do to get your check every 1st and 16, and maybe a lil extra so you can work VRI. I dont know if your from Beverly or Edison Park so hard to say what bar your in telling your B.S. war stories while in reality odds are you havent done much more than write contact cards good luck hope your saving that overtime check you will need it when you dont get a pension. I know i have 25 yrs high school diploma and a schedule E that will amaze you. God bless back up your fellow officers and try not to be a dog!!

Man. The Dougherty haters are really a small bunch. Their crappy BS postings all sound exactly the same: wild, crazed, and unbelievable. Good luck with that guys.
Fuck him! he had 12 years! time to retire already. Bring in Fresh blood.
Has anyone noticed that State Attorneys get away with crimes? Or are people that blind? Most are recorded on video and have barely even gotten at the most probation. Like drunkies State Attorneys that cause criminal damage, DUIs, domestics and so forth. I mean they keep using the excuse, "it was a mistake." Even when found with drugs like cocaine. But, God forbid it was a cop, they would comre after us like bees, take our freedom, lifestyle, job, it's not fair trials we receive. The State Attorneys get away with crimes.
You are lying about not believing this or painfully stupid. Either way you are part of the problem.

Who was entitled to a refund check? Mine was mailed to me and I'm part of the class action! WTF getting ripped off again????????????
"Whatever personal beef someone may have with those guys."
What makes you think any of this is personal? This is a blog, where people discuss their own opinion on a variety of subjects. It's not about any one individual, for most of us anyway. it's about right and wrong, it's about a mother who lost her son and has has endure insult to injury, it's about political clout, it's about a terribly handled investigation, not once but twice, it's about the equality of a disciplinary system and a justice system, it's about merit promotions, it's about public trust, it's about questioning what on its face looks bad and is another black eye on CPD as a whole. Your entitled to your opinion, as are all the people you take issue with. Just because something is written on this blog doesn't make it true or valid, it's just a debate. I know one of the people involved and have always thought they were a nice person and still do but that alone doesn't excuse this mess. Sweeping it under the rug or minimizing it by saying much to do about nothing, is a option I guess, but I try to put myself in Mrs Koschmans shoes. Someone wrote "Mrs Koschman isn't complaining about the verdict", really? This woman has fought for years to have an investigation into her sons death. I don't think the 60 day sentence was any great victory in her mind but she never gave up her quest for the facts relating to her sons death and I commend her for that.
For me, this is about taking responsibility for the decisions you make, about being held accountable when you make bad decisions and that should apply to everyone including the politically connected like Vanecko.
"Fuck him! he had 12 years! time to retire already. Bring in Fresh blood.
2/12/2014 12:25:00 AM"
Heard the same about Greg Bella, that's why you put Shields in. Please tell me you're sterile & that imbecile gene you possess won't infect another generation.
To 7:35am.....so I guess it was the sgt, the cmdr and the deputy who wrote in the report that Koschman said"I'll kick your ass" and the 2 honest, hardest working detectives signed their names to the report as being their own investigative work. In all honesty the entire detective unit should be disbanded if this is how they work on a daily basis. Just make district detectives and that's it.....
Love the comment " has never been a detective".... What the hell does that imply? If you've never been a detective you don't know if an investigation is horseshit? Or a coverup? I know plenty of detective who were never the police, yet now are detectives and still have no clue. Oh yea that clearance rare of 25-28% ....really? If this is the best and brightest of the D-unit, their best capable work, then I say get rid of them altogether. Send all of them back to districts, after all their patrolman as detectives anyways. They can do more good answering calls and manning beat cars than lying, and manufacturing evidence to cover up for a murdering relative of Daley. The detective division is a complete embarrassment!!!
Bashing coppers? Maybe, but anyone who has read the grand jury report must admit that the investigation was pretty shoddy. I am retired so I really do not know the background of the supervisors in this matter, but I do know that before I left the politicians made the department a patronage haven , especially the detective division. Supervisors and commanding officers with no real detective experience and no one supervising complex homicide cases. No cops were indicted in this matter because of statute of limitations and too many people granted immunity. But, I firmly feel that every police officer that is still on the job that is named in this case should be the subject of a CR number and an internal investigation. Some of the comments that I have read here are just plain crass and lacking empathy. God forbid it was not your kid. I would never put my name on a report ( and have refused in the past) where a supervisor interjected a statement that was not true or based on fact. your GPRs are and should be everything . I hope the superintendent makes major changes within the detective division for accountability, report writing and securing and indexing investigative files. I hope this never happens again .
Read in today's Sun Times that the B.G.A. sent a letter to the new head of the F.B.I. in Chicago to look into charging the police with civil rights violations and/or corruption charges. This like the
Chicago version of the Rodney King case. I think the police should stick together and strike let's see what would happen to the City then. No police in Chicago there would be a thousand murders a week. We have to take stand and stop being shit on by the politicians, newspapers, and the public. Strike, strike, strike!

2/11/2014 09:09:00 PM
Amen brother. I have been saying this all along.
Did these guys try to pretty this up? Yes, they did. But all in all, the were not covering for Vanecko. If they had a good case against Vanecko they would have slammed him into the ground. Ask any detective in the city if they know of a case similar to this that has been charged. None that I know of have. If a cop came to me with a 30 second narrative of the facts I'd answer immediately - "there's no way the state will charge this." That's what's being lost here. Was JG wrong for not including a witness statement that Vancecko was the aggressor in his closer? YES. He was embarrassingly wrong. Wow. He failed to include a witness statement. I still can't wrap my head around that. That being said, JG is a good guy and a great Det. Some call him a company guy. I don't know. Maybe. Cirone's E-Mail about Koschman saying "I'll kick your ass" to pretty it all up was also embarrassing. I know they were trying to make inconsistent witness statements sound consistent. I get it. But you can't do that. You have to include everything. But were they doing it to cover for Vanecko? I doubt it, because the statement was still in JG's GPRs. Stupid and embarrassing ya, but no way a cover up.
You can't cover something up when there are 5 witnesses. You cover shit up when there are no witnesses.
Cover-up my ass.
Throwing the file out afterwards? - ya, I'll give you that one. That was a cover up, not so much for Vanecko but maybe just so the work would not be scrutinized.
These last two big paragraphs have a problem with the term 'cover up'. Yet they accept the term 'pretty up', which I don't get. Whatever. So Lets drop the terms, heck, even Webb never used such terms.
Webb laid out the facts of the case in chronological order. Part of his job was to see if there was any criminality conducted during the investigating and prosecuting phase. Webb said he could not prove criminal intent.
Without reading between the lines like we all are doing, the facts of the case definitely show how incompetent and lax the CPD and ASA can be. Everyone involved said this was a heater case and only the best CPD and ASA were assigned. So if this is what the best do on a heater case, what the hell do the dog ass moron CPD and ASA do on a nobody case?
Based on these proven and self admitted facts disclosed to Webb, CPD and ASA did allow a man to get away with "murder" (yes, involuntary manslaughter, agg batt, I know). Shouldn't those involved be punished by the CPD and ASA for being grossly incompetent and lax and negligent in doing their job? (Yes, some are retired, I know)
This is what Dan Webbs investigation was about. Was there enough to charge Vanecko? And did any CPD or ASA do anything wrong? I think Webb answered both. Now what - who's hands is this in now, if any?
Throwing the file out afterwards? - ya, I'll give you that one. That was a cover up, not so much for Vanecko but maybe just so the work would not be scrutinized.
2/12/2014 09:09:00 PM
So, counselor, in your "defense" you admit your clients 'prettied up' Vanecko's story and threw away material evidence?
I wish you were their lawyer. I'd like to see some people get what they deserve. A mom just asked for the truth. It's our star they tarnished. How about we just expect them to do what they are paid for .....to do what's right. Not to do what's right for them.
Steve Peterson was in charge of this mess and Tom Byrne his hand picked Chief of Detectives, as we see both were asleep at the wheel and Andrews was allowed to really fuck things up. When questioned about what happened Peterson threw the detectives under the bus and Byrne didn't know what the fuck was going on. C'mon skull these were your guys, way to have their back you merit hack, and Hilliard lackey. Go have breakfast with Weiss and talk about how you could have been an FBI agent if you only had a brain.

You forgot a few things, no large fresh water lake. Much dryer climate, lots of toothless women. You better go there with money. And of course, all my 'exes live in Texas. I just had to throw that last one in.
I am still stunned that anyone would defend the actions of the detectives and the prosecutors office in this matter. The crass comments that this little skinny kid was drunk and the aggressor and got what he was looking for are outrageous. This was poor and sloppy detective work. If the dicks did their job and made their case, which they did not, then let the ASA reject the matter. What crap. Someone comments " spot on" really? Can supervisors correct reports or ask for a correction? Certainly, but only if what they want is based on some fact or interview/ Everything should be in the report both good and bad and let the courts settle it out. If a supervisor wants to add things to a report or make corrections that have no basis, let them do a supp. You just can't defend this investigation. Police detectives around the country are now laughing at the detectives in the CPD, for this investigation and a lower homicide clearance rate then Harvey.
