District Vacancies

Good news north siders!  Openings in 016 and 017 - 4 each. That's 1.33 extra officers per watch! Unless one goes to the Tact team, then it's only 1 per watch.

Even 008 had 5 openings.

Oh, and the usual plethora of less-than-desirable assignments litter the south side:
  • 003 - 10 openings
  • 004 - 10
  • 005 - 10
  • 006 - 05
  • 008 - 05
  • 016 - 04
  • 017 - 04
There also appear to be around 50 sergeant openings, but we're told that's a contract thing for assignments.

Dean Angelo's group came into our roll call and claimed anyone could send the letter. Passed out Lexus Nexus letter that they claimed that anyone could send the letter. But when you read what they passed out it talks about knowledge of action not being done. The board was kept in the dark until after the action was suppose to be taken. If someone is passing out this misinformation before they are elected, what will they do if they get elected? I'm voting for Dougherty, but not everyone on his team.

Seriously? "Real" police work? What would that be exactly? locking up people who will get locked up again and again in order to be released again and again? Getting into a chase and almost killing yourself, your partner, another p.o. or a civilian for that wonderful two rock case? Hey DUMMY, been there and done that. Don't you have a clue in that little brain of yours that allot of us started off where you are and learned that it's the same old circus with different clowns and that it will never change? After a few years it becomes clear that there are greener pastures in neighborhoods where actual human beings live that have their share of garbage and you can actually make a difference. Don't get me wrong, I had fun but eventually chasing 15 - 25 year olds for killing their own people is a fruitless endeavor that just ends up getting YOU hurt, making YOUR BOSS look good and you on the stand as "THE ACCUSED". No thanks pal, that's why they send you rookies there, to do "the real work" that us "old timers" know is just garbage detail. I only have fifteen years on and know better but i guess i'm an idiot in your eyes. That's fine but i'll be the idiot seeing retirement instead of getting an honorable handed to me in one hand along with a lawsuit handed to me with the other hand. Keep it, it's all yours cowboy.

Got my Pension watchdog Team letter in the mail today. This letter is filled with the most bullshit out of all the campaign material I have received so far. The second sentence of this letter is "We are a group of independent candidates that rather than working for a single candidate for president, will work for each of you, the members of the FOP". This is the second sentence and a total lie. Denis Doherty, Al Jaglowski, Rich King, John Lipka, Mike Underwood, William Burns and Dan Shields have a track record of voting with former President Mike Shields to pass every illegal motion this current board of directors has approved. Lipka, Underwood and Doherty were the hand-picked by Shields to sit on the committee to hear the charges against him that he did not send the retro letter in on time. He admitted he did not send the letter in on time and this hand-picked committee still found him not guilty. How is this NOT working for a single candidate when they were working for and voting with Shields on every illegal motion? A vote for any of the people listed in this post is like saying I'm ok with losing my retro. Nothing but lies and all of these people should be run out on a rail. Take money from my pocket and tell me you’re looking out for me, I don't think so.

You all are full of shit if you don't MAX out on deferred (457k) as soon as you can in your career. That INCREASES in value through the years' not like that expensive new car which DECREASES in value from the moment you drive it off the dealer's lot.

You young guys, jeez, sitting here on an anonymous blog calling each other names. Meet at a gym with a boxing ring and go a few rounds and see how feisty you feel after that. You might be the one that saves that other guy's life some day.

And all that 457k money grows tax deferred. No taxes to earn it and no taxes on it's gains or on the gains on the gains, it is the best deal going for us. You have to be a full time trader with some real investing smarts to beat that. Just put it in a low fee index fund and forget about it until a year before retirement, than start changing it over to fixed.

The sooner a cop can learn to be happy driving used cars and living in a cheap house the better off he/she will be come retirement day. I've known plenty of people who have to go get shit security jobs upon retirement because they liked to piss money away.

That will happen when the cheapskate City gets someone to contribute enough to buy them for us. Fucking cheap deadbeat City had to get contributions, pass the hat, for the first time they gave us vests.

But they have them at O'Hare Airport, because every other airport has them and probably they get Federal money to buy them.

here's an idea, or a suggestion.....seems like a lot of hate, or animosity, between those who work in north side districts and those work on the west or south side,so......
a) anyone assigned to work in west or south side districts (to be discussed), receives a salary bonus (10K-20K?) over regular salary...
b) shift differential for everyone is eliminated, everyone working 3rd watch gets an extra 5% on base salary, everyone on 1st watch gets 10% extra (prorated, obviously, if they change shifts)......2nd watch, nothing extra......

(OT) ok when does the debate for top fop slots start? Talked to slate 7 vp and citywide candidate both said they would be willing to debate to help membership decide who is the best man for the job. No response from dean Angelo's team, btw who is running as independent? The debate if all agree to finally man up would be held at the fop hall, we could charge entrance fee maybe $10.00 each which would be donated to gold star families and we could ask Father Brant to moderate to prevent the immaturity of the mob mentality "want to go out in the alley" after all these guys are getting paid huge salaries president $210,000 the Vice Presidents $160,000 + expense accounts and 75% pension of fop salary further draining the depleted pension fund! These votes are to important to waste, debate would show who would be the best!

An important question buddy from city hall told me that if the fop hierarchy Doherty dimaria and the rest who have been working out contractural matters are voted out that rahm would be able to start all over from day 1, delaying the contract even going to arbitrator, allowing the city to save millions. Is this rahms devilish plan? Is this accurate? Tune in again same bat time same bat channel!

Btw why no woman acceptable to be on top of any ticket? Maybe because a woman would intimidate rahm? Look at how Karen Lewis Cps union chief made rahm shake? A woman's scorn would possibly turn things around maybe! " u have our number call us maybe?"

When confronted at their once every three year district tour to NOT take responsability for their incompetence, and blame Shields, Bill Gram stated he once ran for office and the FOP didn't back him either. He went on to say he knew he couldn't win but only ran to make a statement. Well Bill, we don't need you to show up every three years and make statements. I hope you are super happy since you got your wish. This is a prime example of what is wrong in our department. I remember last year in my district I got a nice assignment. In my ten years on the job I never bothered anyone and I always treated people right. However, some people got jealous of my plum assignment and caused all sorts of havoc on my professional life. I love reading the hater comments about the only working coppers are on the south and west sides.

I'll give you a fact hairgel---99% of the coppers in the slower districts started out in West and South Side fast districts.

Someday, you'll bid out too when you get the seniority--just like I did.

Until then....Blow Me

When have you been denied in 007? Cops are stepping on each other.

Well somebody has been listening. 12 people are getting launched from the academy heading back to their districts. We could really use the help in 007. Maybe we can get a weekend off now and those people can work Saturday and Sunday.

2/08/2014 06:17:00 PM

Crazy conspiracy theory here but maybe the reason they have AEDs at Ohare is because a former dept of aviation city employee started a aed company after leaving city employment and has a multi million dollar contract to supply such to airport. Also company has a executive member who is Russian and attended a university at same time as a son of a mayor. Or maybe it is all coincidence and also original post and response is not a push by a company which provides aeds to get a contract for all city facilities.

Hey SCC
Why is Billy D and shitty wide team sending out two very different letters to the retiree's and active's.
Can't Billy D just spout his Bulllshit to everyone in the same letter.
Billy D is a Bullshit artist with only one thing in mind, to win the FOP presidency.
He is self serving and ONLY interested in Billy D.
Why did he call Mc Donough and ask him for his support should he be involved in a runoff with Dean Angelo?????

Dear SCC,
I received my mailer from the Citywide Team today and a funny thing happened. The letter from Bill Dougherty had the union bug on the mailer, however the biography's of all their Citywide candidates did not have the union bug emblem. So another slick move in which the membership "will never notice". Bill just a word of advice. If your the interim "acting President" running for the office of President, spend the penny and have the entire mailer done by a union shop with the union bug printed on your entire mailing. Not just the letter that you write "union" and the xerox insert "NOT UNION". I am just saying members like myself did notice and I am sure other members will too after reading this. I mean after all we are a union. Well kind of if you want to call it that.

2/08/2014 05:50:00 PM

Obviously when you withdraw money later on, such as at retirement, that money is taxed as regular income. One key advantage of 457 plans over 401k plans is that you do not have to pay any penalty if you take the money out simply because you are leaving your job

Also its either a 457b or 457f. There is no such thing as a 457k.

At one point the I think the department thought they were going to get these things, because the old watch commander log had a checkbox for 'AED operational'. I have no idea if the new DSS logs have that box or not. Funding or clouted suppler must have fallen through.
You know, $1200 each * 23 districts = 27600 dollars. lots of money right? Thats only about 1 days worth of VRI salary for all coppers that are working it.

Stop working VRI.

Your Pension depends on it.

The old special employment at CTA, CHA, DUI Checkpoint,Etc did not have the negative effect on OFFICER SAFETY and PENSION FUNDING like VRI Does.

Don't be short sighted.

Do Not Whore yourself out.

F.O.P......where are you at?

Wake the F--K UP.

2/08/2014 06:24:00 PM

The only reason you had CTA, CHA, and DUI was because the city didn't want to expand Public Transportation, Public Housing, and Traffic Enforcement. If they did they would have to hire more police officers to replace the ones they took from the districts. Don't pat yourself on the back too hard for working straight time at CTA while providing the city with an opportunity to circumvent pension responsibilities. For whatever reason in your fucked up world you believe the city is going to pay their portion of the pension bill for x number of new po's when they won't even pay what they owe now. I have never heard one copper in person call people who work VRI scabs or have said a bad thing about VRI. That leads me to believe that these scabs comments are coming from a small group of simple minds who have somehow deduced that working CTA, CHA, or DUI is in morally superior to working VRI. I know I just blew your mind, it's okay we know it happens to you often.

Cause it's safe to type away insults towards fellow officers. And i'm speaking of the fake tough guys comparing South/West side work compared to "slower" Districts. The Police with time on the job need to explain to these kiddies that while they sit in the ghetto bitching and moaning about this dept and how unappreciated and great they are, more experienced ones now work in the slower areas protecting their homes and families. The beast has invaded those areas and while there isn't a dope spot on every corner (yet) the threat is still there. The young guys running around the hood right now and running their mouth will one day be sitting in 016 with a different view. Its a cycle and they need to hear the criticism in order to have respect for the guys who once worked the very same ghetto they now think they own.

Remember all that bull about Shields being in bed with Rahm," because his Father had a security business that had a security contract for a couple off duty coppers that he got 25 years ago and this Iron company gave a thousand dollars to Rahm's war chest now 25 years later". That some how according to Bill D meant that the President he got booted out via Ted Street and Kevin Graham were in " bed with Rahm". And you coppers believed it. After reading that "interview" with Bill Dougherty in his home by one of Rahm's mouth pieces at the Sun Times, even a blind man can see who really is the person or party in bed with Rahm. The reason I stay is because I get good furlos and can be on any watch I want. These morons that post shit on the blog about being the "real police" because they work west or south are the same ones running around the station telling anyone who will listen about the "great pinch" they just got when they found some dope on guy that ran. Believe me, those people are a joke around here too. At least once a month we also have people getting court notifications to report to corp. counsel. They just don't get it. Those of us that have been here for more than 5 minutes get it and we don't pay attention to these self proclaimed superheroes. Please just ignore them. They will start to understand when they get hit with punitive damages and/or (God forbid) get seriously hurt. I know working vri is good money and that some coppers really need it but in the long run we are only hurting ourselves. When crime was the top thing being reported on a daily basis is exactly the time everyone should have stopped working vri. That was tHe power of the patrolman but they dangle a little $ in front of us and we cave because some are greedy and some really need it. The politicians would have been forced to play ball with us and we could have used that to our benefit with contract negotiations and even with the pension reform issue. Here's some friendly a advice. The next time something happens in Chicago that could benefit our members (like NATO, ever increasing violent crime, etc.) we need to stick together to get what we deserve (a fair contract, fair wage increase, fully funded pension, up to date and working equipment, proper manpower, and some respect).

When you retire don't come back to the blog crying about how the 9% you have contributed to the pension for the past 25 years is gone, after all you'll have all those IRA's. You are helping Rahm take your own money away from you. So after you calculate how much you lost from the 9% pension contribution you're working vri for about $15.00 per hour. Mr IRA definitely not Mr CPA.

Start looking for candidates that were watch of unit reps and have some experience instead of people like our current president Shields who had 5 FOP meetings as his experience with FOP we elect him on the promise of 80% pension after 20 years. Don't fall for the bullshit and no experience otherwise we will play into the citys hands again for another 3 years. There are 2 current regimes in office right now, those who voted with Shields and those who voted against him. Do you homework before you vote it's your future.

ok so the desk crew didn't do an accident report for your wife when it was a nonreportable incident, she just bumped another car no damage no injuries. You cryed to mealer that he should get crs for the desk crew and he told you no and call ipra yourself if you want a cr against desk, and the po told you he felt mealer was right. So just keep up your little hate crusade if it makes you feel better.

Is it true then that the Pension Watch Dogs are teaming up with Dean Angelo and have agreed that if they should win Mike Shields is being brought back?
Everyone should note that Dan Shields is on the Pension Watch Dog Group and also many of the Shields supporters is on that team also. Yes they have agreed to bring Mike back as an inside guy again.
Dennis Doherty
Ken Hauser
Allen Jaglowski
Rick King
John Lipka
William Burns
Mike Underwood and last but let's not forget
Dan Shields
If this is what you want go for it. These are some of the most definite reasons why our past President Shields was able to get away with all that he did.

Who are you backing? You probably think its a good idea to elect a disabled guy who has been working a six figure job for years at the diploma mill Cal College of St. Joe,while collecting a disability pension from our badly underfunded pension fund. We'll be the laughing stock of the country.

Can anyone explain why Dean Angelo is running for President, he walks unassisted able to shoot, full time professor, and when he was in the FOP years ago ask him again about the use of our credit cards and the parties that we paid for. When he asks if there are any questions please ask some of the above. I think a person who is able to work a full time job should be able to handle something on the job. Shameful that this money he is accepting is coming out of our pockets and depleting our pension fund.

Plebanski for president. You've got to be fucking high. This goof came to my roll call and thought we were so stupid he had to explain that his doctorate didn't mean he was a real doctor. He went on to say we should call our personal physicians and not him if we get sick. What a moron.

There are a couple of bits of misinformation that keep getting posted.

Someone keeps posting that the FOP reps receive pensions based on their FOP salaries. I didn't believe this was the case so I called the pension board to verify this and was advised they only receive a pension based on their CPD salaries. If you don't believe me, you can verify this too by calling them at 312-744-3891.

Someone also keeps posting that Fran Hurley and Cunningham somehow screwed us with their votes on pension reform. That legislation had no impact on us in any way, shape, or form. They both spoke at the last town hall meeting and assured the participants they would not support any legislation that would negatively impact police officers. They also stated they were educating the other legislators of the differences between the state pensions and our pension.

You know all of you guys with all of your negative comments make me sick. Fast districts vs slow districts. I'm a better copper than you. Who gives a fuck? I thought we were all coppers. We should all be on the same side. Any civilian who reads the shit you post must think we are all a bunch of fucking retards.

Shame on you all.

No, offense SCC, but you and your predecessors used to offer a forum to allow coppers to vent against bosses and a department they thought was unfair with a little humor thrown in. Now, you allow posts which pit coppers against coppers and people to post supposed "facts" without any verification of them. I know it's your blog, but why allow this shit?

Hate shields just as much as the next guy. But this was never a campaign promise. I should know. I campaigned with him.

By the same token, isn't Jaglowski on heart attack disability, being paid from the pension fund? How can he work the union job but not the CPD? And this isn't an attack; it's a question. (Okay, two questions.)

Gold braid and disability pension needs to be changed.
People on disability pension should not receive more than 50% of a 5 year police officer salary with no future increase . Many officers work , attend school , vacation and have no desire to return to work . If officers want 75% let them report for duty in commanders office or as a 3rd watch desk officer.

How about Officer Bernie Domagala? Took a bullet to his brain in a hostage situation. Now disabled. Should he report to the WC office too?

Get yourself elected to something and try to make policy. How many officers stealing disability money have you turned in? How much have you recovered for the City of Chicago? Or is anonymous blogging the extent of your activism? "Yeah, somebody ought to do something..."
