Burglaries Up?

  • An alderman warns homeowners and businesses about a rash of burglaries in his ward on the city's North Side. 44th Ward Ald. Tom Tunney says he is working closely with the 19th District police commander, and that the burglaries are happening during the day when people are at work.

Shattered shards of glass littered the floor. The front door was open. And from behind the counter of this sandwich shop, the cash register was ripped out and hauled away.

"My glass is broke and broke my register. I think $280 in my register," said Sangey Patel, store employee.

Burglaries, especially residential, are on the rise in the 44th Ward, which includes Lakeview.
Gee, this wouldn't have anything to do with the recent manpower issues covered by the Tribune where northside district are being stripped of officers, in direct contradiction of what Rahm has been spouting the past few years?

This same ward led the city in armed robberies (or had the greatest increase in armed robberies?) in 2013. An observer wiser than us would assume that criminals were preying on places that the police aren't. But that can't be true, because McCarthy said it isn't.

Everyone thought the burglary team was doing exactly what they should. They locked up burglars, responded and covered alarm calls, suspicious person and auto calls, prowled the alleys and got activity; until they were disbanded so the cmdr and capt could have: a quality of life car that starts at 0400 and does nothing; a quality of life car that starts regular day hours and is the messenger car (cmdr's pals), a business sgt in addition to a caps sgt who both do nothing, 4 district admin people in addition to a plethora of civilians (as well as 2 review officers), a tact team put in uniform to write parkers and tow cars on Clark St - and they wonder why the burglaries and robberies are up? Open your eyes.

1 burglary, 2 car break-ins, and 1 got her ass grabbed by dude on the street at Southport/Addison.

They have an apartment lined up in Northbrook.

Back to the burbs....and get this, they're all now conservatives!

maybe the original members of the burglary team were decent but the most recent additions were useless. They did nothing but enjoy the early outs and complain when they had to be there late. 18 years between the two of them. Not enough time to make 3rd watch. I work midnights and barely see these two goofs out there at all. Don't worry big guy, you'll be back on 1st watch soon.

And these liberal, democrat morons will still vote for Rahm, and Obama if he could run again. They just don't get it. The people THEY continue to elect and support are responsible for this. Including the anti police mentality that permeates their minds. When crime didn't affect them, they didn't care, now reality has entered their lives and it's a problem. Piss off!!!! Rahm finally gave them the police they be screaming about for years and guess what, they still kill each other real quick like. Rahm doesn't know the police and he doesn't know the beast. All Rahm knows is politics and bullshiting people.

Apparently, the north side taxpayers aren't sore enough yet from the screwing they've been receiving from the thieving and lying mayor and his yes-men. One of two things will happen- 1) They will begin to flood their aldercreature's office with complaints and MAYBE then something will change. 2) They will sell (which has already begun) and move out. If the taxpayers on the north side leave, the bulk of the city's revenue goes with it, as well as any attraction to live here. Don't forget- rahm has 2 cars guarding his house 24/7, a millionaire wasting city resources for his personal use. I doubt he will lose any sleep over the rest of the people being burglarized as long as his home is safe.

They don't know how it is. They are the producers. They pay so dude can be chased around by PPO's. Many nights Beat 1911 is down, no police car for my house. While dude has loads of police walking in a small box forbidden to leave. Anyone want to come steal? Hit 1911 and 1912, even when those beat cars are up they spend much time in east end of district. No sheepdogs to protect the sheep of 019. The sheep just complain when police shoot a dangerous animal in their back yard while they are showing little Justin the pretty mountain lion.

There are around 10,000-11,000 just not all are patrol blue shirts, they never are.

When the department had 13,000, some were detectives, some lieutenants, sgts, commanders etc. And a percentage don't do anything, never did anything and never will do anything.

The 80/20 rule still applies. 80% of the work is done by 20% of the workers.

Burglaries are up in 20 too. There's at least one, sometimes even two calls for burglary reps on 2011's bt EVERY DAY! Yet we have 2 unmarked cars that never get a call and leave early everyday. Meanwhile they put the beat car down on a "burglary mission" while he's 99. Great strategy there people! Of course, Henny Penny cannot be bothered with trivial bs like that because she is too busy with more important things - monitoring the radio sign-in log and checking the clock when officers come in for check off. Earning a six-figure salary to watch a clock! Unfking real

Manpower issues? Why, yes there are. And, the city, in order to save money hires back off duty officers and pays them premium pay. So, how does their plan effect the rank and file of the department. Yes, people make extra money to help with tuition and bills. But, the city saves a lot by not paying into our pension fund for the officers that we are short. The pension fund suffers and is losing money every month. It is great to have the extra cash, but I am wondering if some of the calls to boycott working overtime are not really out of place. By not working these extra jobs, it may force the city to hire more police officers to put more money into the fund. The pension funds of the Chicago Police and Fire Departments are the worst funded in the nation, even Detroit PD fund is on better financial footing. Our fund will be broke in 9 years and the mayor wants to suspend even more payments. Rough times coming.

In the old day's, Tac guys got part ones everyday and when they got a narcotic arrest, there was some weight.

Not too many dogs working tac in the old days. Produce or hit the watch ! Period. Eli needs to make some changes with his management in the tac unit. Change is good when homes are getting hit after the owner is paying 10 plus in RE taxes. Lakeview has become a shit hole with all the mutts taking easy picking.
    Shame of 35 street !!

    Russia learning from McNumbers:
“Sure there were stab wounds and bruises all over the body,” admits the lead investigator on the case, “But who knows what caused them. Maybe he tripped and fell on a set of knives. Right now we’re ruling this an accidental death.

Oh, for pete's sake. That's from an Onion-like site. Humor. Not news.

The Lakeview voters got the change they voted for.

The shame starts at City Hall.

Did a brief stint in 019, wasn't for me. However, just for your info...Pappas worked in 007 for at least 5 years, and has done more than most coppers have done in 10 years in 019.

no new police, 019 down over 30% and Burglary mission team disbanded, now they are scrambling making a tact team focus 100% on that and night time robberies!! Sinking ship!

    2/08/2014 05:18:00 PM

Yeah more lies to the public. They did not make a burglary team again. They are simply making a tact team work a "burglary mission" every other month until the Cubs start. Then they will be back on Clark street on midnights again. The commander and blowhard tact LT. have been fucking these guys that merged from the old 019 so much that they could care less and have no motivation to do anything. The leaders in 019 are the anti-morale. Playing favorites like no other. Thanks for still being so kind since the merge which was over two years ago assholes!

Bottom line is 019 and 023 should have NEVER merged. Very bad management decision and the citizens should be furious of the lack of police manpower and presence in "their hood".

Exactly what the people in 019 have been saying.

I work 019 2nd watch and we all have to admit the Burglary team did a pretty good job, with the exception of 2-3 coat riders. It's a shame that the bosses can't admit they made a mistake and let them get back to work. They were good at what they did and we know damn well that the crack team can't and won't! Swallow your pride and also there's one question Commander/Captain sir, How can you drop a team that makes you look good?

not true…did her training there…then right to 35th/Michigan. She was technically "assigned" to 007, but detailed downtown..Nice Try

EV can truly be one of the most useless commanders in the history of the CPD. But as long as princess Pappas and his old partner KM can get the front office coffee all is good. 80k a year times 2 to do nothing but get coffee.

    ***********************************

Well it's not really 80k after taxes.

Good job Looney Tunes! Getting rid of 019 burglary team! Way to move in a new direction!
Too bad the Commander is going to pay for your poor decision!
