Dart Does ObamaCare
- Being arrested in Chicago for, say, drug possession or assault gets you sent to the Cook County Jail to be fingerprinted, photographed and X-rayed. You’ll also get help applying for health insurance.
At least six states and counties from Maryland to Oregon’s Multnomah are getting inmates coverage under Obamacare and its expansion of Medicaid, the federal and state health-care program for the poor. The fledgling movement would shift to the federal government some of the more than $6.5 billion in annual state costs for treating prisoners. Proponents say it also will make recidivism rarer, because inmates released with coverage are more likely to get treatment for mental illness, substance abuse and other conditions that can lead them to crime.
“When someone gets discharged from the jail and they don’t have insurance and they don’t have a plan, we can pretty much set our watch to when we’re going see them again,” said Ben Breit, a spokesman for the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
We're betting County is still going to be seeing them...just with the feds paying the bills. The feds will have just as much success getting mopes to take their meds as County did, which is to say, "none." Dart will then have more money to spend searching for photo ops.

Update : Progressive blogs brag Sheriff Dart can help Obama reach his goal for ObamaCare signups.. Dart tells another interviewer he may be able to reach several hundred thousand inmates who cycle in and out of the Cook County Jail.

On a related note, the Obama administration is launching an all-out effort to get 18 to 30 year olds to sign on to Obamacare, because that is the only way the program will (remotely have a chance to) work. Ummm...... what is the normal age range for those arrested on drug or assault charges?
Feds paying the bills? Lets see. My gosh, that is you, the taxpayer paying the Feds who pay the bills. It does not matter if the inmate goes to the County hospital, has insurance through medicare or no insurance. The inmate will get treatment and the taxpayer will pick up the tab.

One of Darts latest moves-to bring a female Deputy Sheriff ("Deputy" as in Court Services or Bailiff or Correctional Officer or Jailguard) and appointed her as a Deputy Chief of the Cook County Sheriff's Police Department.

(Sheriff's Police Officers are also "Deputy Sheriff's" technically.)
Couple her with all the lawyers that Dart brought in as bosses that Alvarez got rid of when she took over and the results are obvious.
Guys say Dart is out to eliminate the Police Department and is filling as many original, "Police" positions and responsibilities with non-Police "Deputies" and they are dumb enough to do it at a fraction of a County Police Officers pay along with a fraction of the training a County Police Officer receives.
Take note:
County Police Officers Stars say the words POLICE OFFICER on the top band of their Star above the wording SHERIFF"S POLICE.
If the Stars say "OFFICER" in that top band-they are Correctional Officers.
If they Stars say "Deputy Sheriff", they are just that are tied somewhere to Court Services.
Those are the facts and are further backed up by the Departments issued identification card indicating COUNTY POLICE OFFICER, Correctional Officer or Deputy Sheriff.
So next time you stop a County gal or guy-take a close look at the Star and ID card as they will all undoubtably tell you they are County POLICE OFFICERS.
Professional Courtesy is fine and certainly reciprocated. However fact is fact.

The Elko County Commission approved Sheriff Jim Pitts' proposal Wednesday to charge inmates $6 a day for meals, $10 for each doctor visit and $5 for initial booking into the jail. He says it will save county taxpayers millions of dollars a year.
The ACLU says this is "cruel and unusual punishment". JJJ makes $10G (the original 10G) a month from disability. Why not pay up?

Dana Wright, a Court Services Lt who was assigned to Maybrook Courts. She also worked in Deputy Training. A female of color, 40 of age and as stated in the original post-absolutely NO POLICE EXPERIENCE and NOT A POLICE OFFICER but Dart appoints her as 1st Deputy Chief of Police of the Sheriff's Police Department. Salary-$140k a year. Plus a car. Plus, plus plus...

Its not just CCDOC, all probationers are also referred for Obamacare. We dont do the enrolling (yet) but have to document that each one is referred. I am certain that counts as 'enrolled' for the powers that be.
