That Was Fast

All the posturing and accusations that the Naperville Police may have "targeted" Savini for his drunken driving, battering and endangering? Nowhere to be seen yesterday:
  • CBS 2 News investigative reporter Dave Savini pleaded guilty Tuesday to drunken driving, stemming from a case early last month that began in the drive-through lane of a Naperville fast-food restaurant.

Savini, 47, of Naperville, pleaded guilty in DuPage County Circuit Court in Wheaton to a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Companion charges of battery, endangering the health or life of a child and leaving the scene of an accident involving vehicular damage were dismissed in exchange for that plea.

Judge James J. Konetski ordered him to perform 200 hours of community service work as part of his penalty. Savini also was placed on a year of court supervision, ordered to attend the county’s drunken-driving school, make restitution to the driver of the vehicle damaged in the incident and pay a fine of $1,700 plus court costs, said his attorney, Terry Ekl.
Seems about right for a first time DUI. Hopefully a lesson learned about the dangers of drunken driving. And maybe a lesson in humility, too.

I suspect this was not the first time he drove under the influence and it will not be the last.

Wow! All that money paid out to Terry Ekl, and that's the best solution he could come up with for Savini in court? It's too bad Savini didn't reach out to Da Coach and his sons. They've all been arrested for DUI, but they've all (collectively) beaten a number of DUI cases.

His sponsor is going to be Neil Steinberg. They'll have relapses together and slap their women around. Then Skippy will come pick them up to head to Hosea Sanders for a quick pick-me-up.

the best he could come up with was that rubberhead terry ekl--- terry must be preparing to sue naperville pd for depriving his client the right to drive drunk with his kids in the car and leave the scene of a property damage accident....

Did he get charged with battery on the police? I would never agree to drop that if I were the victim.

What about his suspended DL? Doesn't he take a three or six month suspension?

Jose and Dude always get the suspension. That's how I send them to jail, the driving on a suspended after the DUI conviction. Plus I take the car.

One guy had a fictitious DL, a 26th St special. Car was in the bogus name. I confiscated all the ID's and impounded the car. Juan got deported on the forgery charge (fictitious DL) and no one in the family could redeem the car due to it being in a name that had no real person attached. Car went to auction. Juan went back to old Mexico, family bought CTA cards. My version of immigration reform.

He should have at least done some jail time for having his kids in the car. What a great role model for his kids. Just like the Daley Crime Family CLOUT gets you off with a light sentence.

Should have had the attorney that got Chris Chelios off, even after the dash cam was played with the swerving vehicle and the field test and the come on man pleas.

For public personalities accused of DUI, the smartest thing to do is plead early.

Otherwise, the whole story -- head shot included -- runs again every time the case is up in court.

Best deal is usually the first deal. ASA's, judges etc. want to move the logjam along. The more they can dispose of by plea deal the better. It counts as a conviction for the ASA. He got the same as Mickey the Mope would have gotten.

He'll go for a restricted driving permit soon enough. Should have the breath device installed for that. I'd like to see Savini do a piece on what you go through after a DUI, with himself as an example. That is the kind of community service that would do someone some good.
