Waste of Resources

  • A coyote ranged over the lake ice off 59th Street for more than an hour this morning, but had moved on by the time animal control workers showed up to coax it back to shore.

"We patrolled the area but did not find any animal," said Brad Powers, spokesman for the city's Animal Care and Control office.

The coyote was spotted around 10 a.m. and traveled between 57th and 59th streets as helicopters hovered overhead. It did not appear injured.
Wild animals wander onto the ice all the time. It's what they do.

Sometimes they fall in and die. It's what happens.

Coyotes are classified as a pest in Illinois and hunt-able year-round with very minimal restrictions. To expend valuable helicopter time (which runs into thousands of dollars per hour) and risk human life (pilots, divers, etc.) is shortsighted and an almost criminal waste of resources. The circle of life involved death, too.

The yuppies watching from their condos were blowing up 911 by crying and complaining?

"Why aren't you guys doing anything about that poor animal out on the ice?"

Kind of like the idiots demanding a Police response when their stupid mutt jumped into the water after a duck... And the stupid mutt was tied to a folding chair when he jumped into the drink.

>Glub-Glub<

Multiple bad locations until a responding unit found the caller who ran up to the Copper and said:

"Aren't you going to jump in and go get my dog?"

Well... We ALL know the answer to that one...

Marine Unit dispatch for a recovery. >Snicker!<

Lots of crying on the cell phone about "The cops aren't doing shit!"

Uh-huh... Stuffing Poochie's wet and dead ass in their mailbox was the agreed to play.

These people lose their minds over animals doing animal shit but they don't care if first responders get hurt or killed effecting the rescue of a critter that doesn't want it.

Bunch of fucking loons...

Amen to that. Especially for a yote. It's not like they were endangered or a rare and valuable species. However, I must say that if get several prime yote hides, you can have a mighty fine, and warm, coat made from them.

If a coyote wandered onto the ice it isn't too smart. That's why nature takes it.

Normal person.

We should raise taxes so that things like this don't happen again. The lake should be safe for coyotes to walk out on.

Rahm.

In case anybody's wondering, the 2 CFD helicopters cost $2000.00 a dollars an hour to fly not including personnel costs.
In New York the NYPD flies the exact same make of helicopter CFD does and performs both the search and rescue the CFD does and the law enforcement duty the 2 CPD helicopters do.

>>> SCC: "Coyotes are classified as a pest in Illinois and hunt-able year-round with very minimal restrictions." <<<

That's what I thought too, SCC. That is until a couple months back when a call came in about a Coyote running loose in Grant Park. Lo-and-behold that Dispatch was informed by the IL DNR for the coppers not to mess with it, that Coyotes are a 'Protected Species' in IL, so they didn't.

Now that sounded f--ked up to me, I recall what you said, but that's what went down. Granted the IL DNR 'guy' could have been talking out of his butt as many of them are tree-hugging eco-nazis who want to hug Wolves.

Animal Control won't come out for raccoon or opossum calls because there are too damn many of them in the city. Unless YOU, Mr/Ms homeowner, can corral it!

Our response should be the same: no first responders will respond for an animal outside, whether a coyote stuck on ice or a cat whose humans foolishly let it out (to be run over by a car or stolen or shot for trespass or whatever - if Kitty's "stuck" up that tree why aren't ALL the trees littered with cat skeletons?) But this would require supervisors and calltakers getting on the same page.

If you love it DON'T set it free!

CFD Dornocher has them bamboozled. They had a chopper and 8-10 pieces if equipment on land looking for someone and then a dog on Sunday morning at Oak St. beach when the Police Marine Unit had already cleared the ice of three people and told the fireman that, but he and his firemen don't listen to those Marine Unit guys because he's protecting posiyions that are NOT NEEDED. Hey bean counters...how do you justify spending all that money for nothing and risking first responder's lives for nothing. Looks like the Police Marine Unit can do with 4-6 guys what takes CFD 40-60 guys. What a joke. Cant wait to get out of here and save my tax money.

They are good for some things. The collar on my parka is coyote, keeps wind and snow off my neck.

The meat is good for pet food or poor people. The rest can be ground up for fertilizer.

The tenderloin of coyote is good if cooked properly with a nice sauce. Tastes like chicken.

Let the PETA people go over to Sochi and protest the killing of tens of thousands of feral dogs; see how the Russians will treat them. The fresh water over there looks like dark ginger ale. And glows in the dark. What a country, yikes!

Whatever it costs the City to put on its little "Air & Water Rescue Show" was a bargain in that it kept the whiny libtard asshats quiet. All the moaning, groaning, beefing and bitching that Rahm would have had to listen too if the City didn't do everything in its power to save (basically) a stray dog.

Remember all the whining over shooting the cougar?

I like coyotes, like them much better than gang bangers. We should be free to hunt gang bangers as worse pests.

Also, coyotes help keep down the population of worse pests - Canadian geese pooping everywhere are a huge problem.

No where else in North America allows geese to poop everywhere.
