- Chicago police say crime in the city was down last month compared to statistics from the same time last year.
In January, shootings were down 43 percent and murders were down 47 percent in Chicago.
The Chicago Police Department says overall crime is down 34 percent compared to January 2013.
Meanwhile, there's 51 inches of "global climate change" on the ground, streets are still unplowed from the last storm, the south side is getting hammered with another batch of lake effect snow and we're waiting the third "polar vortex" of the new year already.
But hey media, keep releasing those stats spoon fed to you by the Department and City Hall. Has anyone totaled up the percentages of "crime is down" since McCompStat got here? We're almost positive that Chicago actually owes crime now, stretching into 2015.

You know they're desperate when they have to wait ten minutes for no shootings to take place and then come up with a "statistic" to show how crime is down.
Who do they think they're fooling? This is as comical as the old Soviet lies.

The result of electing a tough on crime mayor, and being fortunate enough to have a tough on crime police superintendent steeped in the ways of the NYPD. They could not have done it without professionalism of the officers of the CPD.

SCC - We tallied 24 homicides and another 81 wounded. Not bad considering the shit weather. CPD is counting a few because they were either self-defense or reckless.
Also, the "crime is down" statement is so popular that it has spawned it's own Twitter hashtag, #crimeisdown, that many of us use anytime there's a homicide or shooting to mock the whole premise.

Crime is down, now that's a good one. Everyone knows there ain't no Sanity Claus says the Marx Brothers.
It helps when the homicide numbers are manipulated also. Example, female stabs dope dealer in 025 who choked her. He dies and it's classified as an Involuntary Manslaughter. Clearly a Second Degree homicide by UCR definition but those count on the stats and involuntary does not.

Does that mean Cpd officers get rewarded like In business? A bonus for a great job? A contract with nice raises? Pension funded? Lol! Of course not! Don't forget when the 4 top guys running to head our union ask the hard questions. For example where was the union when the pension was being defunded? Why did none of them speak out for the membership? The debate sorry just woke up the guys running would never debate each other to scared their lies would be exposed! This is a tough election do we vote for all new people ala Shields type or keep some experience? Clean slate has them as does on the Angelo people. Tommy says if he wins he will do an audit of the fop books. I wonder how Capparelli feels about that since he is the one writing all the lodge's checks for the that decade? Maybe we should ask how much we pay for garbage collection or how much we lose on the golf outing and picnics? How much did we spend on hockey and softballs teams over the last 12 years?

Hmm strange same thing Shields did look what happened to him. Sorry no more kids taking over the big wheel citywide has faults but billy is forcing legislation to get pension funded,got us 4-2 workday and 55 and out medical retirees vote they and most of us don't want a Shields repeat which is what rahm wants get me billy and citywide!
Vote the city wide team out of office. They let us down by NOT making sure MIke S. Signed the letter for retro pay. They let us down. I will vote for any body but who is on the city wife ticket. !!!!

How many times do you have to be told... FOP didn't get the 4&2, Weis didn't give us the 4&2 - the city picked the 4&2 schedule because more elective time was taken by people on the 4&2 pilot schedule than the other schedules being tested. In fact, the FOP's original preference was for the 6&3 schedule.

Not a good argument and it doesnt make sense. Its better to ask those 20 this years than the 44 last year in Jan. There were 24 less homicides this Jan, be happy about that.

So you are saying the supt cant go to the Superbowl and has to stay in Chicago because some fools are killing each other in Chicago. I'm sure him staying in Chicago would have reduced homicides.
Saw Garry on the Ch 9 news touting the trend that been in effect since spring of 2012. Hey Garry how bout the trend that's been in effect since 2003 that shows homicides declining every year until you in your infinite wisdom disbanded TRU/MSF and other units only to have the homicide rate sky rocket. Now that its back to the trending rates its all on you the greatest police mind of the century, not to mention 400 guys working in the ghetto at time and a half keeping dude in check
