Silly, Just Silly

  • The low point so far in Chicago's closely watched battle with street gangs may have been the day that Michelle Obama came home for the funeral of a teenage honor student.

A year ago, the city's bloodiest January in more than a decade had just ended. On Feb. 9, 2013, the first lady stood in a church mourning 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, who had been shot dead in a gang dispute she had nothing to do with. It happened just a mile from the Obamas' Chicago house.

Since then, the number of homicides and other violent crimes that turned Chicago into a national symbol of gun violence have fallen sharply.
It gets worse:
  • The overall crime rate fell last year to a level not seen since 1972, and the number of shooting incidents involving victims 16 and younger dropped 40 percent in 12 months, city officials say.

Some wonder if the decline is a result of spending nearly $100 million on police overtime. But city officials insist the numbers are evidence that changing police tactics and creating and expanding after-school jobs and mentoring programs for young people are paying off.
City officials will do anything to NOT credit the police and pretend the $103 million in overtime didn't happen. They also won't mention the weather, because as you all know, people are just as likely to get killed on a 90 degree day as on a day that's 15 below zero.

The article also mentions the CPD Postal Service:
  • Today, the department also provides gang members with information about social services and even sets up meetings between them and the parents of murder victims "to give them a sense of what they are doing to the community."

McCarthy says it's the largest program of its kind in the nation and will be expanded this year.

So, too, will the department's so-called "heat lists" of people deemed likely to kill or be killed. Officers gathered statistics showing that associates of murder victims are 100 to 500 times more likely to end up on either side of a slaying. Last summer, they hand-delivered letters to 25 people warning them of those dangers and asking what police could do to help.
Wow. Just wow. Twenty-first century policing.

Just curious, but how many extra police officers have been hired to implement all these new programs?
I mean, since McSocialWorker got here, there's a new one announced every 10-14 days.

As we all know, the article is a pretty fair and balanced description of why the crime rate has dropped so low. A lot of praise also need to go to city hall leadership.

Let me get this right. Greg Bella is being sued in court for over paying legal bills to an attorney who is related to former board member Tim Fallon who passed away. Greg did not go thru the legal defense committee for approval. Sid Davis and Mark Donahue both signed the check. Greg has had to give depositions in January about this.

Greg Bella is running against Sid Davis.

What were Dougherty, DiMaria, and Aguliar doing to safe guard our money? Almost 300k worth of bills that should have never been paid?

Why am I just hearing about this from Sid yesterday?

Speaking of job related stupidity, the following comment appeared under the thread about the NATO 3 assholes:

"That's not good police work, it's great police work. These dudes were truly dangerous and 009th District owes these officers some thanks because 009th District was a main target. How dare you rip on these coppers, you piece of shit!"

------------------------

No son, that's NOT great police work. It's called being in the right place at the right time. These officers did nothing extraordinary. To the contrary, they fucked up what realistically had the potential to parlay into something bigger. That said, expecting anything north of mediocrity from CPD these days is a lesson in futility.

I can make such a bold statement as I also attended many days of the trial. And I concur with the other posters who said the two "Infiltrators" were in way over their heads. Horrible testimony and questionable tactics is an understatement; inexperience combined with the lack of knowledgeable and tenured supervision is what tanked this case. Anita and Cook County et al were just the coup de grace.

Here's the meat and potatos for all you impressionable fools: these no-time-on-the-job suckers were cajoled into assuming this undercover role by supervisors too stupid to lead a starving dog to a steak. No doubt they were blinded by the delusions of grandeur at "taking down some hard code terrorists" heaped upon them by those running this dog and pony show. Merit promotions were surely alluded to at some point of the ego-stroking sessions. Bet on that.

File this one under the "Live and Learn" section, "Never Volunteer For Anything On This Job" aisle.

These officers were used by the department and the city. They were a means to an end, nothing more. This is volunteerism akin to tact teams and "specialized" units... a bill of goods talked-up and sold by supervisors desperate to justify their existence (at YOUR expense) and gobbled-up by kids that haven't been around long enough to know better or who ignore the warnings of their elders.

Now let's see where all these "bosses" are if/when the "NATO 3" file suit for malicious prosecution or some kind of nonsense.

The drug wars bringing you down? Legalize. Poof! No more problem.

Under-performing schools? Hey, let's just close them, re-open them as charter schools, and do away with tests and low grades. No more problem.

Government broke? Borrow and print more money!

High unemployment got you down? Hmm. Ok, let's just announce lower unemployment figures. Then we'll triple the number of people
on disability, and announce that people working less in America is a GOOD thing.

Mr. Aguilar believed this was a fair offer by the city and when asked if he thought the cost of living in the city was 2% he said YES, he was immediately asked the same 2 questions again by someone in disbelief by his answer and Mr. Aguilar again said 2% was fair. I don't know where you guys live but to live in the city where I live the cost of living is 2-3 times that. Is this really a guy we want fighting on our team for our contract. This took place at 1700 hr roll call. I will continue to post this again and again. This question was very short, very clear and repeated more than once. Think about it guys.

Stats are awesome. According to one of my co-workers, Chicago stats don't lie.

Well here is one that does. All numbers are from http://www.census.gov/prod/www/abs/decennial/

Given the rate of flight from Chicago in the 70's, the 1970 census number was 3,366,957 compared to the 1980 census number of 3,005,072. This is a rate of 36,000 population loss per year. Thus the population in Chicago in 1972 should be approximately 3,294,957.

According to the same government body, the census number of 2012 is approximately 2,714,856. This is approximately a 580,000 population change. More than a half a million.

So if Supt. Doc McStuffins and Mayor Joffrey want to compare numbers, let's start with the population, before we get to the crime numbers. Amazingly, you are still more apt to be a Victim today, than in 1972.

"I FART IN YOUR GENERAL DIRECTION"
You sir, have totally hit the nail on the head. Although, I am not so sure that having a couple of UCO's with their heads screwed on straight would have truly translated into a more solid case for terrorism against these three. The more likely outcome would be that having the real police on the scene with those kids in Bridgeport, they would have allowed them to try and make their way to the summit with some weapons, and let the UCO's in the black bloc give them a hard lesson before dragging them in on charges that would have actually mattered.

Nope... Because you hard-headed children on this job never seem to fucking learn from your elders when they preach to you about the hazards on this job.

The "old bitter fucks" as you youngsters like to call them have been where you misguided children are trying to go.

They could easily say "fuck you green-ass motherfucker" and stand back and laugh at you when you find out these bosses who sold you on some dumbshit have turned their backs on you when the bill comes due.

These young U/C officers are screwed and WILL be left holding the shit-bag by their supervisors, CCSAO and the Cook County Court system behind this NATO 3 nonsense...

Don't volunteer for shit on this job... There are too many bosses, especially in these secret squirrel spots who have no idea what they're doing.

They're more a danger to young Policemen and their families than they are to criminals.

Instead of trying to infiltrate these NATO nitwits, why not just do it the old fashioned CPD way?

Covert surveillance until they made their final move in furtherance.

CPD terminating their plot with a maximum of pain and prejudice.

The remaining survivors made to stand trial and being justifiably locked away from the sight and sound of upright society for the remainder of their twisted, aimlessly wandering, dope-blowing little lives.

"Wanna see a Cop on fire?"

The proper outcome would have been some dumb-ass with a Molotov in hand getting drilled, dropping the stupid thing only to have it explode and engulf him and his fellow dumb-asses surrounding him.

P.S.

Hopefully, these young nitwits had a chance to learn how to wash Dude's drawers, braid hair and other such while in custody.

>Snicker!<

And these chumps were so worried about what The Police were going to do to their tender asses?

Hopefully they learned what real anger and hatred are while locked away in County...
