$30,000 Bond
- A security guard at a West Side home improvement store was dragged by a Jeep for five blocks Friday and then beaten after confronting a shoplifter who stole a set of drill bits, a Cook County prosecutor said Saturday.
Two guards from Menards, 4501 W. North Ave., approached Danny Johnson in the parking lot outside the West Humboldt Park neighborhood store. Prosecutors said the employees had watched Johnson, of the 4800 block of West Polk Street, conceal a pack of drill bits in his coat pocket while standing in line to buy other items Friday afternoon. Johnson denied taking the items and got in his car.
One of the guards stood behind Johnson’s Jeep Liberty in order to prevent him from leaving, but Johnson backed up anyway and the guard jumped onto the bumper and held onto the luggage rack in order to avoid being hit, prosecutors said. In Johnson’s arrest report, police allege that he swerved intentionally in order to knock the guard off the car.
He then pulled into an alley, scratched and beat the security guard until the police arrived. All that and a bail of 30 grand?
Or is Anita undercharging again?

At least Anita didnt charge him with terrorism. Then he'd walk for sure. Gotta love John Marshall's junior college graduates.

wtf!!! west humboldt park is now all the way out to the 4500 block of north ave???? who comes up with this shit.. humboldt park ends at kedzie but they stretch it all the way out to kostner now???... wow.. might as well call the outer edge of pulaski near ADDISON west wrigleyville!! or cicero near ogden " west pilsen" oh yeah and while you're at it call division and elston next to the river west loop...oh and dont forget that belmont and kimball qualifies for west lakeview shall we keep going?.
Like Toni Prickwinkle says, if the bond is too high, the person of color is unlikely to get out of jail before trial and Toni doesn't like that.
We have to question how much the security guards provoked this gentleman, tried to illegally detain him. After all citizens do have their rights. Considering the circumstances, the bail may be too high.
Keep Voting One Party Rule
FLOP Silent
But Should be outraged about the fact that cops risks our lives for law and order but the justice system lets Us down EVERY TIME
I will vote NO for any current FLOP Officer regardless of which team they are on now!!
He wasn't shoplifting...he was wealth redistributing.

Irritating isn't it.
But that's what happens when your local news media hires a bunch of twits who never stepped foot in IL, let alone Chicago, before they went to J-School at Northwestern -- and then became 'ace reporters' (/s) for our local news outlets.
To say they are 'geographically challenged' regarding Chicago and its neighborhoods is putting it mildly. Their knowledge consists of everything they can see in a ten minute cab ride from their condo or loft to work or their fave bar.
Oh and they're snotty little pricks about it to, so don't go thinking you can correct them by sending a nice email to them about their 'neighborhood mistake'. I tried that once with the Sun-Times where the ace reporter said a shooting happened in Brighton Park. I politely pointed out that 56th St and S. Western Avenue was Gage Park not Brighton Park -- the assholes banned me from posting.
No, it's not Anita... it's Preckwinkl!!. Preckwinkle wants to keep shoplifting charges down very low so that the minorities can make bail. Although battery charges and others will be added... Preckwinkle's instructions are to go with the first crime committed, which was shoplifting. The Judges and the Sheriff will now have to listen to Preckwinkle, since Preckwinkle overwhelming won the votes on the County Board.
And here's what the dummy security guard will learn. Menards, like many other stores, have strict restrictions on physically detaining someone, the guard leaving the store, blocking a vehicle, etc. So this goof got hurt for nothing since he'll probably be out of a job. He also knowingly violated store policy and Menard's will happily throw him under the bus. Way to go hero for $11.25 an hour.
What an idiot. Why does the stupidity guard jump on the offenders fleeing vehicle? Isn't there a store policy against that?

+1 and the minorities don't understand that Toni's statement itself is racist. Dumb people.

YOU ARE LOST. Security guards have a right not to be dragged by a car. And no one has the right to hit a person with a car. I don't know how you lefties come up with such bazaar ideas. So if your existence itself provokes me can I hit you with my truck and drag you for a few blocks?
That's some TJ Hooker shit right there bro
Further Proof that your life is worth less in Cook County! This would have been a much higher bond and charge in DuPage County. But here we pride ourselves on Political Hack Prosecutors.
Part of Obama's new Affordable Tool Act.......known as Obamatool.
The offender should thank his lucky stars that he didn't take a shot or two to the back of his head.
All this over a pack of drill bits....
Their mistake was giving a f*ck.
Why would it be higher? It's Cook County, He'll walk anyway.
The dean Angelo team is on this blog more than anyone I know. Dean jr, if you put this much this time in police work you may learn a thing or two.
Anita wouldn't be Anita if she was doing the right thing. This will be a simple battery if not already. Theft will be thrown out and Anita will praise herself for getting the conviction of a violent crime. Ha such a joke here
What the hell are these "Security " guys thinking. For a pack of drill bits??????
Just quit bitching and take the money!
So what does this tell you officers, I know the security guards were trying to do their job, but when the danger outweighs the outcome, screw it, the guard should have jumped off the car and let dude run. Now what if he fell from the car and was seriously hurt for the rest of his life, Menards would do nothing for him. Remember this is Cook County and the States Attorney probably said, What a Dumb Fuck, Hanging onto a car ".
Can't a brother just steal some motherfucking drill bits without them security guards dispecting him.
They were just auditioning for Starsky and Hutch! The "perps" must be brought to justice, no matter the cost!
Being the po-leece dose make one callous and it does skew your view of what is important and what isn't. Like risking life and limb for maybe $20 worth of drill bits?

Wow, every sentence you were able to insert some craziness. The security guards didn't put the drill bits in the OFFENDER'S pocket. He is not a gentleman, he's an OFFENDER. The OFFENDER's rights end when he infringes on the rights of others. AND finally, 30K for an incident that could have ended in the death of the guard, is TOO low.
At least Anita didnt charge him with terrorism. Then he'd walk for sure. Gotta love John Marshall's junior college graduates.

What? Couldn't get hired there?
Maybe the bond is that low because there is an election coming up and they need his vote.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!

Did your mother drop you on your head or did you grow into being a dumb fuck?
The person posting about the idiot journalists not knowing a thing about Chicago...you are right on!I am sure there are plenty of REAL Chicagoans that have majored in journalism to hire. Get rid of these transplants. Whats worse are Chicago cops from out of state that claim to know everything. No goofballs Logan Square is NOT the west side..Jeez, I have to explain everything.
Dean (Eddie Munster) Jr. interested in learning about police work? C'mon, give me a break. He's going to be the next Mike Shields someday. Just ask Dean Sr. He has said on more than one occasion that he has been grooming him since birth to be an FOP president. God help us all if that ever comes to fruition.

Wow, the quintessential Libtard point of view. There is no end to their twisted slant.
Having worked security in the past, I would say that the guards should've just let the guy go. Our orders were always to just "observe and report" and give a detailed description to the police ASAP. A pack of drill bits is not worth your life, especially if some asshat decides to fight.

Right, if you gave him part of your paycheck maybe he wouldn't have to steal drill bits. I'm OK with that. How much can you give?
