FOP Election

First - have you voted?

Second, we've gotten e-mails from two sergeants who were promoted in recent years. None of these sergeants maintained their membership in the Lodge, declining to send in dues for a "fraternal" membership.

Each related that they received ballots in the mail though. Is someone not updating the membership list and sending out dozens, maybe hundreds of extra ballots?

Those types of numbers could screw up an election easily.

Trustees that were affiliated with the current FOP, I will not voting for you. None of you have addressed the roll calls about the issues and you should be ashamed of yourselves. You get extra money paid and never bothered to do your job. No more BS. When I finally asked to see what a trustee should be doing as part if their duty, I was appalled, none of that has been seen at the districts.

Not for the splintered 'Citywide Team'.

Especially those toxic asshats desperately clinging to the hopes of yet another term "upstairs". Ditto the recently retired Recording Artist with aspirations of 3 more years as Sergeant at Arms. Ditto most of the hangers on dumb enough to attach their names to the floundering Dougherty party.

Hundreds of extra ballots won't mean diddly squat with how bad these bums are going to be ridden out on a rail.

There's going to be a lot of yelling, screaming, cursing and crying on March 7th. I look forward to the real-time reports from the frontlines as relayed to SCC.

Yes, I voted and it almost made me puke when I saw Dean Angelo's name on the ballot along with the names of Doberty, Lipka, Underwood, Shields (Dan), Jaglowski, and Burns. The last six are all Shields guys through and through. They have supported every bullshit move Mike made in the past. The first three were his hand picked hearing panel that found him innocent.

These guys plus Dean, a guy who supposedly can't work a full time but can visit 60 roll calls, are just the same as putting Mike back in the office. I would urge you all to steer clear of these guys if you haven't voted yet.

ditto on the number of people who have retired.

Don't start talking shit about "we count the number of duty availability checks being cut" because those numbers may be worth the approximate value of the final inch of a long piece of shit too.

Nobody's numbers are on the square in this playground for pimps.

First of all you could care less about what a trustee has to say, especially a retiree. Officers want to see the President and the Field Reps at their roll calls. So quit trying to make the trustee's out to be the bad guys in this election.

OT: why did our former FOP president Mike Shields sue our Union to get on a ballot to represent US (he sued us so he could represent Us). On top of that he is suing All of us for damages and then he wants to represent US? This is so backwards. On top of that he thinks he would actually get votes from Us. This guy is a trip. Bizarre and delussional

Yes he is. So is his brother and other board members that support Mike.
Dean Angelo
Mike Underwood
Rick King
John Lipka
Dan Trevino
Ron Shogren
Denis Doherty
Al Jaglowski
Bill Burns
Dan Shields
Fernando Flores

These are the board members that keep supporting Mike Shields and his brother Dan. Vote NO to all these guys.

This is a open letter to each person who is running for a Fop Office Good luck. ! This letter is also being written from a mother's heart. I am a white middle age woman who works in one of the police districts as a civilian in the office where I am seldom seen unless you come where I am. I am a proud mother who son is a PPO in his last phase but is on the streets of Chicago. Like all Moms II worry every day until I hear the key turn in the lock to open the door and see him coming in. My husband tries to make me stay in bed saying "Dear give him time to wind down but of course Who listens to their husband" . I greet him asking questions only a mother would ask and we talk . This time our talk is a little different because I can see something is bothering him. So I ask what's going on and he share with me he loves his job and only wish his partner had more experience than him because they both are still learning but they love their job and they always "GOT EACH OTHER BACK" My heart literally stop "thinking is this normal " so like any concern parent I asked he responds with MOM gosh stop it I am the police. Couldn't believe how nasty he said it. Now I'm thinking to myself who is this person as he turns and walks away. Of course my husband was waiting in our bedroom to throw in my face the old " I TOLD YOU SO ". 2 weeks later some guys running for office are out in my district and a Black girl comes into the office with another officer who is checking on something but he is running for office and I don't know if she is but I know she is a officer so I ask her is it normal for PPO'S to ride together in the squad car. The look on her face was a look of disbelief but suddenly with such a calmness in her voice introduced her self and say "May I Ask who are You" I tell her who I am and that I have a son who is a PPO on the job and he was telling me PPO are riding together in the squad car. My question to her was " Is that normal". . She asked me the district my son was assigned to and I told her . The officer explained to me that PPO's belong to the academy and they are at will officer's who are not protected under our contract and can be fired for anything She went on to say she has some concerns and that she needed to place a call to investigate . She asked if anyone had a FOP book . This officer placed a call to the duty desk and ask to speak to someone regarding recruits . She identified herself as a Unit Rep. And she debated with this person for over twenty minutes . What struck me the most was how calm this officer was all the time smiling and saying please now you know that was un heard of when we came on the job . She asked the person If the Commander was aware of what was taking place regarding the recruits . I don't know the answer to her question. She asked if he could .pass this information on to the Commander in charge. Needless to say the problem was fixed. I don't know who that officer was just tell her I said thank you and that she is a angel who I believe God sent to me . In closing, Here's what I do remember about her she had a infectious smile with straight white teeth and listened to me with such love in her eyes. Thank you so much for allowing me to ramble on!

Too bad Shields fired the women in the office who used to take care of such things. He did that damn near the first day. And Pleines. And then Shields declared, "I'm the Captain now."

Now someone has grounds to go into court seeking to void the election and call for a do-over.

Hard to tell if the small group of small-minded people bashing Dougherty are doing so because they have a rooting interest in the Angelo or McDonag camps or if they are just shlubs who attempted to scam there way onto disability and were denied. They sure have a lot of free time on there hands that's for sure.

Either way, those bad mouthing dumb dumbs are not gonna convince the majority not to vote for for the team with actual experience given the looming contract and pension battles.

Nobody believes that Dougherty had any say in all Shields mistakes. Just like everyone knows that change for changes sake is a proven bad idea. Every coppers future hangs in the balance. Voting for the guys who have done it before and know what there doing makes the only sense.

A little off topic, but it appears that the FOP and unions are going to be more important in the pension reform proposals. Below is a link to a Rhode Island pension reform plan that mentions it could affect Illinois. It is a proposed settlement I believe caused by the fact that the current pension plan has survived 5 court challenges on diminishing the rights of the retirees.
This just adds to the importance of who we elect to run FOP.
Do not give in, go to court and challenge the case until the state and city approve an acceptable agreement.

The meatheads who are trumpeting the "vote the inside cover of the FOP book out" mainly fall into three categories:

1) Angelo/McDonagh ticket spin doctors

2) Current trustees that have an ax to grind with Dougherty because he didn't always agree with them and kiss their asses

3) The type of morons who elected Shields.

In reality the vast majority know that:

1) Dougherty ran with Citywide against the shields ticket in 2011. If Dougherty had run for president in 2011 instead of Bella, Shields would never have been elected,

2) Dougherty was repeatedly told that the "letter" was sent--he had no control over whether Shields sent an no reason not to believe it was sent when he was told it was sent,

3) The "Dougherty hates retirees" talk is crazy talk given that he is singularly the most responsible union member for lowering the retirement age to 55, and thus has done more for retires than anyone else

If those ballots are filled out and returned, someone way less qualified than Dougherty could get elected and we'll all have three more years like the last three. Don't let that happen folks. Be smart. Vote.

Just got done listening to a fop candidate for Vice President first why do we Vice Presidents? And how many do we need? Look at above link page 13 at the salaries and according to him these are from 2010 and they got raises every year all pensionable! So now these greedy SOB get out of control pensions? After looking at the formed in the link they work maybe 40 hours a week? And according to the new guy running they get expense accounts! So you make $170,000 per year get a 75% pension from a depleted pension fund, and have expense accounts! They also have that new Lincoln all shined and fueled for the next fop president all compliments of us the peons!

Wonder if these highly inflated salaries would be like this had the city still paid their salaries? Now that we the members pay 100% of their salaries and contribute through our dues to the grossly overpaid pension plan for them! Tell you what if we call you or correspond and you don't reply personally expect myself and many of us to come to your home, have you wife or girlfriend make coffee ( no woman smart enough to run at top of any ticket obviously) maybe she could bake a cake then we can sit down with your ass (cowardly) and talk about our issues.

The nice guy left the room now you wNt this job time to be accountable! We have a tool in our arsenal a great tool thanks to the great people at the all caring about police network SCC. Don't forget the meeting at fop that was taped and available on YouTube the behind the scenes talk where you guys talk like mobsters where the girl says " the membership is upset becuase they found out" so if you are thin skinned, can't take critism jump off the ballot now, no more crying to. I voted and mailed my ballot in already. It wasn't easy. A couple of the old regime guys have helped me in the past with grievances and CRs. But it still came down to no one sent the letter in. With that my conscious was clear and did NOT vote for ANY old members.

I saw you at the Captains wake today and you will never have the turn out that Terry had today. He was a true cop and always will be remembered as one. Terry had earned the respect and gratitude of the troops he commanded.

Something that you will never accomplish in your career LT Johnny.

2/15/2014 04:19:00 PM

You're an idiot. The freakin FOP are POLICE. Your address on the CPD is current and they get the list of employees or should get it from personnel or run it on the clear. If they cannot be bothered to do that, they are stupid. Why should we be forced to do their jobs for them and send in addresses to FOP when we all work at the same freakin dept. Just say incompetence.

A three day window to vote in the districts, yeah right. Like coppers are going into a station to voteon their days off, furloughs, medical, etc. As a whole most of us don't vote and the ballot is hand delivered to you like you are a king. Not to mention the possibility of voter fraud. Who maintains the ballots if held over three days. I'm surprised Disability Dean didn't push this. It would be right up his alley with another chance to weasel his way into office.

Be smart. Vote.

No matter who gets voted in down there at 1412, it is the office people who keep the office running smoothly. Mark's secretary had 9 years to learn how everything ran, she ran elections and made sure everything went smoothly. Same with some of the others, they don't run for election, they work for wages and just do the regular stuff that needs doing no matter who is president etc.

Genius Mike Shields fired all those people very early on and hired his own favorite people, like Mike Madigan would do in his office, he looked at those jobs as more patronage to pass out.

Mike Shields had a whole lot to do with the poor running of the office, in fact, he had everything to do with that. You don't fire everyone right off, not those who know how to run things!

Mike went down to that office not knowing anything about running it and then surrounded himself with people who also were newcomers. It will take a while to straighten out the monumental mess. Meanwhile, Rahm is sharpening up his carving knives.

I love the one Dougherty backer that always talks how Billy is all for Retirees or how he is concerned for each and every individual member.

Well, I say FRAN HURLEY! Not once have you addressed how Billy and Mark backed the 19th ward secretary that has already voted to DIMINISH the pensions of the state workers. FRAN HURLEY is also gonna vote to DIMINISH our pensions. She already voted once against retirees. She is going to to it again.

Why did Billy and Mark NOT back a Chicago police officer who pays into our pension who is also a lawyer, a qualification that should be necessary to legislate. They backed the 19th ward SECRETARY no other qualification.

BECAUSE THEY ARE BOTH SUBVERSIVE MADIGAN HACKS.

How About GARRIDO.
Why did they not back him for Alderman. He lost by anywhere from 26 - 65 votes. He lost because of the machine sent SEIU hacks out to lie about him 2 days before the election.

It's sad that the union leaders wont support the union membership. But they came show up every three years passing out trinkets (pens book covers, ice scrapers ect.) trying to get ours.

So if you support Billy or Mark, you are either ignorant or a subversive hack. Either way your part of the problem.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Are you a goof? The retirement age was 50 well before Dougherty ever got involved in fop. Maybe before he was hired.

The retiree committee voted unanimously to bring all retirees back in the fold. That committee has citywide people on it too! Billy let Kevin Graham and Jimmy Moriarty hijack the motion with a wink and a nod and postpone the vote on it. Dougherty ruled that he will not bring it back up until one of his henchmen do. When other trustees tried to bring up the motion in another form Dougherty ruled it out of order. And because of what 60-80 people?

Dean Angelo talks about hitting all 22 districts over the past few weeks. Of course he did, because he has all the time in the world because he is collecting $65,000 per year from our pension fund because he can't work. How can he do the work of the president unless he really should be working like the rest of us. I did not vote for Dean. It also doesn't help that the Watchdog group is pushing him and this is all Shields old crew. Don't know Cortes or Plebanski. Nobody that I talked to did. I voted and I did my homework. While you should vote for whomever YOU think is the best candidate, the facts are what they are: any vote for someone other than Bill Dougherty is an utter crap shoot, similar to the large pair of dice that were rolled with Shields in the last go round.

All the fabricated knocks on Dougherty, all the complete and utter inaccuracies about him, and all the childish name calling are nothing more than distractions from the truth: he is the only proven and accomplished candidate with experience. And in an unprecedented year where we have contract negotiations and a pension fight on our hands, that couldn't be more important.

So continue with all the lies about his connections with Shields, or his desire to not send the letter to undermine Shields, or his dislike of retirees or any of the other BS. Youre clearly only good at hate, hoping the majority of the rank and file are good at something else: voting.

Sid was completely mute in the Dougherty vet adventure in which SCC posted Dougherty's email.

Sid lost his honor a long time ago when he gave up this code in order to secure a place on the citywide team. Sid talks the talk but it has been a long time since he walked the walk. Actions speak louder than words.

Its true Bill and Mark did not endorse Sgt. Joe Bird for State Rep. Joe Is A great guy and always pleasant to deal with. Even Before the interview process for the FOP endorsement Mark Donahue and Bill Dougherty had the fix in for the former Alderman of the 19th ward secretary, Fran Hurley. Fran went on to win the primary and the general election with FOP endorsement. Fran has No legal experience. But she does have the Democratic Machine Kronie conections that got her son a free scholarship to a state school. So in short Mark and Bill dont back policeman who have the vested interest of having paid into the pension fund. They are political animals that used our endorsement to put Fran in place who will do exactly as she is told and vote to Diminishour pensions as she has with the state pensions. She has no vested interest. therefore Mark and Bill are connected to the same people that are going to hurt retirees. So a vote for either is suicidal. I know people on each team, and some of the independents. Many of the candidates appear very capable. I truly hope what ever the outcome the factions consolidate to form a Board that has the ability to represent the membership in a joint manner.

My fear is that some of the candidates few this as all about money. My analysis is that as police officers, we have the ability to identify those individuals. I request three thingS of my union representatives, which are HONESTY, INTEGRITY AND TRANSPARENCY!!!

This is one of the things that have retirees worried about Dougherty as it should a active police officers:

Police officers between the ages of 55 and 64 who retired used to get their health insurance paid for by the city until they reached Medicare eligibility.

Starting last month, they were phased into the Affordable Care Act, Obamacare, to save the city money.

“I understand the city needs to save money and Obamacare may turn out to be a good option for them."

Retiree's no longer have a voice, they just need our votes to continue on with a lavish life sytle?

2/17/2014 08:24:00 PM

FOP never took grievances from retirees. Not just now, they never did. Retirees are not part of the bargaining unit. Contract is for sworn, retirees are no longer sworn. Retirees no longer are employees of the City of Chicago. The Pension Board is the sole representative of retirees.

Sort of like you don't get radio calls any more and do not have power of arrest. You cease being the police upon retirement.

The trustee might also be retired in which case no one on earth will take a complaint or grievance. Hire a lawyer and file a lawsuit I imagine.

In some past contract someone on the FOP board wanted to include some language in the contract concerning retirees that guaranteed certain rights and the City said they won't even discuss it. Same reason, retirees are not employees.

If you want to file a complaint about a sworn officer you do the same thing any citizen must do, complain to Independent Police Review Authority, 312-746-3594

You could in theory complain to a sergeant and they are supposed to take the complaint but good luck with that. Be prepared to be told Go fuck yourself.

Vote for president carefully because in the end no matter who you vote for he can put anyone he wants in.

President still needs Board approval. If they vote it down, that is that.

Upon taking office, Shields fired two of the office staff: they were Marks' secretary, who would have undermined Shields, and a secretary that wasn't needed. Stop with the Shitty Wide BS.

2/16/2014 09:16:00 PM

Mark's secretary worked for wages. She is loyal to whoever gives her a paycheck and she knew how to run the office. Undermined Shields? Shields needed undermining. He turned out to be a fucking dope. Did you hear his allegations? He got NO ONE to back him up in that except his family. NO ONE. Even his life long friends he gave large salaries to. Everyone thought the cheese slid off the cracker with Shields.

Look who Shields replaced Mary Pat with, that nitwit who herself got fired. I am trying to think of something good that Shields did and I am at a loss. I voted for him last time and deeply regret it.

Turned my ballot in yesterday!!..... Bye bye Citywide

2/15/2014 06:50:00 AM

"Turned my ballot in"

Turned in where? To whom?

The ballot must be mailed in via US Postal Service, not "turned in" anywhere. I guess you did not read the instructions. Better luck next time.

State Representative Fran Hurley was the phone answering girl at 19th ward office.
Voted against the State workers to diminish their pensions. She will do the same when our pension comes up. Endorsed by Bill D. and Mark D. over a police officer / lawyer

Well can the Doughery and Donahue backers please explain why?

And this is why I didn't vote for citywide. Instead of helping this guy out you tell him to fuck off. Kinda like the fop office.

Bill Dougherty's slogan should be:
Bill Dougherty and Obamacare for All!

Wake up people, what will this department look like with people like Dougherty and Donahue undermining our unity.

Both want us thrown into Obamacare

Both supported candidates who have voted to reduce pension for future, current and retired government employees.

Both Supported New Pension Tier 2 taking away benefits from new police officers (pension now averaged over final eight years instead of final four.

Both Turned their Backs on Policemen Bird and Garrido running for office to protect our benefits.

Dougherty and Donahue are ANTI-POLICE and pro-Themselves.

If anyone was ever arrested for impersonating a police officer, it should be Dougherty and Donahue.

Some cops I work with have the district station as home address, for their license plate. What the hell is that?

State Law, it's allowed under Illinois Law and Department General Orders. Supposed to be 3510 S Michigan Ave, Chicago IL 60653. The HQ address of your department.

When I started this blog I really expected this election to be a no-holds barred, knock-down, drag-out fight. Surprisingly, all of the teams have been rather subdued promoting themselves and not slinging mud at each other.

Well, that has all changed. The members of the so-called FOP 7 Pension Watchdog Team finally showed their true colors when they aligned themselves with the Dean Angelo ticket by providing Angelo with a glowing endorsement. This may not seem like a bid deal to some, but you had better take a long, hard look at the Watchdog ticket before you vote. This pairing might just be even worse for our union than the last three years. It includes Dan Shields, brother of the apparently deranged and ousted president, Mike Shields. That, in and of itself, should be the reddest of red flags, but if you're still not convinced, it also includes Denis Doherty, Al Jaglowski, Rick King, John Lipka, and Mike Underwood. Doherty, Lipka, and Underwood were Shields' hand-picked jury that actually found Shields Not Guilty of lying to the membership and board of directors when Shields failed to send the contract negotiations letter. The remainder supported Shields in every misstep he took.

The Watchdog Team is now going full throttle sending out hate emails about how the Citywide Team hates retirees attempting to sway the retirees from voting for Citywide. Apparently, they are fronting for Dean Angelo by spewing political rhetoric while Dean sits idly by and appears to be upfront and forthcoming.

Like SCC (one of my favorites) I have not made an endorsement of any one candidate or any one team, but I can say without reservation that the Dean Angelo Team is the worst possible choice that any of you could make.

If you are unable to read between the lines, it is this simple: Angelo + Watchdogs = The Shields Team all over again. None of us can afford to let history repeat itself.

Feel free to pass this on to as many people as you know. This team cannot get elected.

Sexual harassment because you were fired as a secretary?

Ok but Mikes secretary worked for Mike and was loyal to him and the membership by nagging the fuck out of him to send the letter and his loyal response was to fire her. He fired anyone that exposed his lack of work ethic.

Cant believe how much hatred and anger have been directed at this "Pension Watch Dog" group by the City Wide Team of expert Bloggers, They are running for no Office above the Trustee Level and appear to be running on the issue of Pension alone. If I were them (city wide) I would have spent a lot more time attacking Angelo and not wasted all the time and energy on those other guys. They missed the boat, Dean looks like he may win it on the first ballot now, they nearly gave him a pass.
As far as Sergeants recieving ballots, not only are non-FOP member Sergeants receiving ballots, The City -Wide Team is running a Sergeant for Office in violation of FOP By-Laws. They really have lost it and maybe it is time for them to go.

I read the Watchdog letter also. The letter did not give an endorsement. It pointed out a position that one group supported that the others did not address.

Also the watchdog group is running nothing but trustees. The voters vote for the trustees and have knowledge of who has been with who in the past. Your conspiracy theory is without merit.

Move on.
