- The Cook County Board next week is expected to approve spending $2.4 million to settle a lawsuit alleging that Sheriff Tom Dart retaliated against deputies who backed his political opponent when he first sought the job eight years ago.
Dart has objected to the settlement, believing he could ultimately win the case, but it was mediated under the auspices of the federal courts, endorsed by the state’s attorney’s office and recommended by the Cook County Litigation Subcommittee, making a rejection by county commissioners highly unlikely.
Lurking behind the machinations of the lawsuit is a complex tale of Chicago politics, alleged jail abuse and public images.
The entire article spends some time pointing out 19th Ward connections, which makes it an entertaining bit of reading anyway. Not entertaining is the millions being paid out because 19th warders can't stop playing politics.

Politics is a serious business and Cook Co. is lucky that High Sheriff Dart is so good at politics. He is what every lawman should be and so few really are. No wonder he is beloved of by his deputies.
Every Taxpayer in Cook County should really think about how Tom Dart has wasted millions of dollars since he has been Sheriff. Tom tell the Taxpayers how you spent 100 Million on the psych building that the contractors messed up, And will cost millions more to fix the Plumbing, Electrical issues. Tom tell the Taxpayers how you spent 20 Million Dollars on the Computer system for the jail, And now your spending millions more because the contractor failed to provide a correct system. Tom tell us about the 55 Million Dollars you cause the Taxpayers to settle for the strip searches prior to a waiting to see if the Federal Courts would have overruled. And sure enough the courts overruled, And ruled strip searches are legal in jails. But Tom if you waited for the Federal ruling you would have saved the Taxpayers 55 Million. Tom lets now talk about the 168 Directors you created since taking office. Each making over 100,000 a years 16,800.000.00 a year. Tom your a Lawyer not a Police Officer go back to your fantasy land and be a bottom feeding lawyer that you are.
My brother hated working for the county after Dart took over. They were just hassling everyone that wasn't connected.
This asshole should be fired and held accountable for loosing all that tax payers money. Remember Dart when it comes to election time.
Most companies, and the university I work at, cover legal expenses for lawsuits that result from doing our job. Unlike Cook County, however, most companies and most universities will make you pay those expenses if you are found to have not followed company/university policies, and losing a lawsuit is pretty much evidence that you didn't follow policies. In addition to losing his job Dart should also be made to pay all of the legal expenses for all lawsuits that were lost and came about because of his decisions. And for good measure, don't let him carry.
Lawn Dart costing the taxpayers big money on this.....and sure, the case could've been won if Tommy had his day in court because as we all know he was looking forward to telling his side of the story.
Nah, easier to settle and hike the sheeple's property tax up another penny.

I was looking on sheriffs website yesterday and the opening page says over 46 percent of Cook County inmates have self admitted mental health issues. Really?... keep believing its the system failing them instead of personal accountability.....Asshole!!!!!!!
Ask Dart how man "Directors" he has hired. Exempt big buck jobs given mostly to his lawyer pals who can't find a real jhob. There are DOZENS of them on his payroll. Most just sit around all day and drink coffee, looking at themselves in the mirror

Funny how this works; political connected employees get a job or a position based on their connections. Then when they are reassigned or lose the job based on political connections of others they complain and file a suit.The cook county sheriffs office is nothing byut a haven for patronage and always has been. Hiring, promotions, assignments all on patronage and connections. Yes, tke a written exam to be placed on a list for sheriff. But, they can take anyone in any order off of that list. you have to be a moran not to make that list.
Wait until the lawsuit hits dart and the county for not approving conceal carry permits this guy is a raving maniac someone on the county board better put this loose cannon in his place before he bankrupts the county.

One of Darts latest moves-to bring a female Deputy Sheriff ("Deputy" as in Court Services or Bailiff or Correctional Officer or Jailguard) and appointed her as a Deputy Chief of the Cook County Sheriff's Police Department.
What is this persons name and where did she work prior?
Deputy Wright, a Lt in Court Services was assigned to Maybrook Courts. She also worked in Deputy Training. A female of color, 40 of age and as stated in the original post-absolutely NO POLICE EXPERIENCE and NOT A POLICE OFFICER but Dart appoints her as 1st Deputy Chief of Police of the COOK COUNTY SHERIFF"S POLICE DEPARTMENT.
Salary-$140k a year. Plus a car. Plus, plus plus...
He is still harassing his employees. This suit was settled for 500,000.
John Maher, was Assistant General Council to Sheriff Tom Dart. Maher was also a Lieutenant Colonel in the military. When Maher was called on by his country to serve, Sheriff Dart took exception and questioned Maher's loyalty according to federal suit. Suit settled in the high 6 figures according to source. Maher was fired by Dart after completing his deployment.. Dart allegedly justified his firing by making false allegations against Maher including but not limited too, Rosemarie Nolan Director of Personnel-entered Maher in LEADS for a stolen employee ID and Badge the same Day Sheriff's Compliance Officer Robert Egan sent him notification to turn over his Credentials as detailed in the complaint. They reported Maher as a suspected thief within 24 hours of his termination according to Maher. Undersheriff Zelda Whittler told Maher that Sheriff Dart lost trust in him for serving his Country. Maher also alleges before he was terminated Sheriff Dart placed him in charge of handing out prisoner sandwiches at the jail to humiliate, ostracize, and punish him for fulfilling his military obligations. Maher also alleges Sheriff Dart had investigators go through his personal belongings looking for dirt on him.
Since 2007, 188 Employment Discrimination suits have been filed by Cook County employees... Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart is the defendant in over half these cases.. The Sheriff's office shockingly has more federal employment suits pending than ALL County offices combined, despite the fact the sheriff only employs 20% of the County workforce... The alleged discrimination practices of Sheriff Tom Dart is costing the Taxpayers millions.

Even the guy running against Dart was subjected to his vindictive nature. Evans was Commander of HBT- Hostage Barricade Unit. He made and innocent comment about Dart needing to back his people at roll call. One of the rats in the unit went to Dart. Dart actually opened and internal affairs investigation. They called all Evans friends in the unit down and threatened their jobs they didn't tell the truth. That's the kinda guy Dart is.. Evans was soon after demoted.
Anyone with a pending case against Dart watch this youtube video. At 15 minute mark Dart brags about firing and harassing his employees. Perhaps SCC can post it.

Well, the Senior Lt in 011 must have read the Crime Numbers book about NYPD Comstat bullshit. There is a section in there about "Bully Bosses" and describes a Certain LT in 011 perfectly. Did anyone find his Pill box that he misplaced? The reward for its prompt return is 2 Personal days.

He's got it, $16.8 million is 168 @ $100,000 he might not have it written exactly right but the number looks like 16 point 8 mil

The written exam is one of s series of tests similar to CPD. And the exam is not taken to be "Sheriff". "tke" should be 'take, "you" should be 'You'
and "moran" should be 'moron'.
So, in other words-you failed.

Dart found out who hosted the
County blogspot, threatened to fire him if he didn't "fess-up". He did, he lost his stripes being demoted back to Deputy.

At least the Chicago Tribune spanked Dart yesterday...not by John Kass though. Kass has hit every other politician, organized crime figure, even the President...but Dart has him scared.
Kass stays clear of Dart because Kass gets marching orders from Ed Burke. When Dart hired Burke Jr. Kass was giving the order. Kass was next door neighbors with Burke when he was a kid. Look in the archives, Kass has never written anything negative about Burke who besides Madigan is the biggest crook of them all.
