The teen has not been charged in the holdup and police were still looking for the third suspect.
Showing up with his lawyer - that's almost as good as a confession. Hello Felony Murder charges. And maybe a better seat on the bus to prison if he gives up number 3.

For the uneducated: Felony Murder charges result from a killing during the commission of a felony; i.e., an armed robbery. In other words, if you participate in a felony like armed robbery, and someone gets killed as a result -- even an accomplice -- then you can be charged with Felony Murder even if you didn't pull the trigger or even have a gun yourself, like the two mopes here. So yes, Felony Murder is a completely different charge than Murder.

Did you not read the article? First off, the sgt was a county guy. The City has nothing to do with it. Second, the mother of the dead offender said her kid went down the wrong path and she understands that the sgt was on the wrong end of the gun held by her kid. She's not going to sue anyone. The guy who turned himself in isn't going to be released, time served...he's looking at a felony murder charge. Try a little reading comprehension.

In fact the Area North Mission Team has spent months chasing theft rings along Michigan Ave, once again in 018. The mother is most likely relieved that her son is dead. He was nothing but a burden since birth and was going to be his whole life. No more phone calls to come pick up her son at 3:00 a.m. because he got arrested again, no more missing shit from her apartment, no more coming home and seeing her son and his little jag off friends sitting in her place eating her food etc...
I cannot second guess this officer's actions, but he reacted correctly and killed this young thug in self-defense. It is a real pity that the other two thugs were also not killed because after their not doubt upcoming brief incarceration, one or both of these two thugs will cause harm to someone in the future.
My only hope is that at some point they get killed by another gangbanger and then you have two for two.

Sure. Felony murder occurs when someone dies during or in furtherance of the commission of a felony. Basically it broadens the definition of murder in these circumstances, especially where intent is concerned. It also makes everybody involved in the felony responsible for anyone who dies. In other words, it is much easier to charge and convict the felons involved.
So, in this case, three robbers hold up an officer, who shoots and kills one of the offenders. Under felony murder, the other two robbers are responsible for the death of the third, and are charged with murder.

His buddy was killed while they were both in the commission of a felony soooo...the suspect can be charged with felony murder because his felonious conduct resulted in the death of another person. There was a attempted robbery and five people shot last night in Gary Indiana at a senior citizens center.
There was a robbery just like that in Chicago a few years ago on 16th St around Kedzie. A storefront pool hall and these three dudes come in and one fires a shot into the ceiling and announces the robbery. A 56 year old off duty cop who was the youngest guy in the place near the back draws his 5 shot revolver and returns fire. BANG! click click BANG! click. click... The officer’s shots hit a window and the front wall. The offender fires and hits a pool table and grazes a patron.
The bad guys fled into the night and I don't what ever happened to them.
Maybe it is the same guys as this robbery.
I hope the officer has learned to keep his gun clean.
I want to point something out - the person who wrote this article has given his mother the power to pass moral judgment on what has happened - a power she does not deserve. That such an article could even be written is directly related to why the crimes are happening.
