- Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said Tuesday that the city’s strategy to reduce gang violence is “clearly taking root,” pointing to a major decrease in gang-related shootings.
Those types of shootings have fallen sharply over the early months of this year compared with the same period of 2013, according to the department.
They now represent less than half of the total number of shooting incidents in Chicago.
“It’s not an accident, it’s not the weather — it’s a trend,” the superintendent said in an interview.
And once again, we have to roll out this reminder:
What were the snow totals this season? The average temperature was how low? Who was it who was actually saying that the inclement weather was actually helping keep the violence down (hint - he kills streetlights)? But of course, it was politically convenient to claim a "trend" at this point in time.

Can we pull over a vehicle for the sole puropse to ask the driver if they have a city sticker?
If we can, this is new to me.
Yesterday beat 715 3rd watch pulled over a PO on his way to work and this was the only reason for pulling over the vehicle/driver.
Never gave the PO a reason to pull him over except that they could not see the city sticker, which was on the windshield. So are they pulling over other drivers for this same reason? Pulling over a driver because they could not see a city sticker is not probable cause to initiate a traffic stop. Or is there so much pressure from Deputy chief LS and Captain Bubble head that they feel the need to initiate unlawful traffic stops.
The 2 guys on this car need to go back to the academy and learn when you have probable cause to initiate a traffic stop.
Give me a break, now we stop cars because you cant see the city sticker? What if the car is registered in the burbs? If you 2 were smart and safe you would have run the plate on leads to see where it was registered before you pulled it over. Not very tactful on your part.

Makes more since but no where near the actual reason why shootings are down. CCW will bring down burglary, assault, robbery, home invasion crimes but I'm sure it will have little to no effect on the murder rate seeing as about 80% of murders here are gang related.

Heard that we could not pull over vehicles for no City Sticker only. But no one could produce any written proof of that. At that time, City Sticker violation, even tho they were written on "mover" books, were not a traffic ordinance violation. They were a Revenue ordinance violation.
And even if the vehicle is registered in the 'burbs or even in another state, if it registers to a city resident, it is required to have city sticker.
Watched the new Chicagoland on CNN. I didn't believe so initially, but now it comes off like a blatant ad for Rahm's future White House bid.

Yesterday beat 715 3rd watch pulled over a PO on his way to work and this was the only reason for pulling over the vehicle/driver.
Never gave the PO a reason to pull him over except that they could not see the city sticker, which was on the windshield. So are they pulling over other drivers for this same reason? Pulling over a driver because they could not see a city sticker is not probable cause to initiate a traffic stop. Or is there so much pressure from Deputy chief LS and Captain Bubble head that they feel the need to initiate unlawful traffic stops.
The 2 guys on this car need to go back to the academy and learn when you have probable cause to initiate a traffic stop.

Maybe they didn't have a pdt. I'm sure this could've been worked out nicely if they just talked about it on the spot. I don't know what good you are trying to accomplish by calling out coppers on the internet. If you stop a car matching the description from a armed robbery would you relate that to the driver? I'd like to believe that the officers had the best of intentions when they made that stop. We just keep doing it to each other. Why do we have to be our own worst enemies? Retro check and pension is what's important at this stage in my opinion.

For your information moron you can use that as probable cause for not having a city sticker per general order. Got a lot of good felonies this way. So maybe you should do more traffic stops and learn your law tough guy.

I used to think that a Department Commendation meant something until I saw a senior citizen officer get one for taking seniors to a casino and a district secretary get several for her son working in the district, it helped him get his merit sergeant promotion. North side district.

A traffic stop requires only reasonable suspicion that a crime has occurred or is about to occur. Traffic violation is good enough.
Probable cause is needed for an arrest.

Lambert Tree is alittle different than a department commendation. CPD only nominates the candidates who then are interviewed by a committee appointed by city hall, who then vote on who receives the award.

Then everyone just shut the fuck up about Wysinger. Go up to him and tell him face to face what an undeserving suckhole he is. If people felt that strongly about him being undeserving they would send their back to McCarthy and tell him it means nothing if they are going to give them out to undeserving high ranking officials.
That is sacrifice to make a point of honor. I would honor the man who could do that. I don't think and more of Wysinger because he has some ribbons on his chest. And I don't think any less of any brave and courageous officer who did fantastic work out there and shed their blood for this city if they didn't get any awards.
