Lots for Sale - $1
- It’s been done in Gary. Now it’s time for the South Side of Chicago.
If approved by the Chicago Plan Commission Thursday, homeowners and nonprofits in Englewood will be able to buy city-owned vacant lots for $1.
In Gary, the program offers vacant homes owned by the city. In Chicago, the hope is to use more than 5,000 vacant lots for something other than litter.
That noise you just heard is the sound of dozens of ghost corporations, shell companies and make-believe churches being incorporated across the city. These schemes always seem to involve an aldercreature, a connected "church," or a ward-heeler who will profit immensely at some point in the not-too-distant future.
How about the FOP buys a house nearby and snaps up a few hundred, maybe a few thousand of these lots at $2 a piece? We'd be out a few thousand bucks at first, but the potential payout could pay for a few additional failed presidencies.

Englewood has no future.
$2 is too much.
The smell of money to be made is in the air. Obscene profits can be made.
You can smell the corruption in the air.
Or is that just rotting Englewood chicken bones?
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
I had a neighbor (on the West Side)that did it during the Washington administration, sat on it, his father gardened on it, and he just sold it for $500K...you never know.

.....the Daley-Emanuel death spiral continues.
Would that be a solid dollar or could it be spare change in a cup?
I wonder if I can buy my Grandparents house back.
Interesting.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. Englewood is full of filth and...well, that sums it up.
I think that phrase, "can't even give it away" applies here. Englewood is full of every kind of freak you can imagine. Oh and it has a pinch of violence more than I'd feel comfortable with. In this case, it'd be cheaper to do a blanket bomb demolition.
Never,Ever buy anything from a town that has wood attached to it's name.
Think about it, GlenWOOD,LynWOOD,homeWOOD, need I say more?
The best revenge for coppers would be some shell corporation of p.o.'s snatching up these lots and a market correction/firends of rahm com calling which would allow for extreme profit taking to occur.
The other half of this equation is monetizing these non-contributing dogs in Engle-Hood by taking some of the proceeds and investing in life insurance for all those "just killin' time fo' time kills me" m/fers who are always on the 10 o'clock news...
Then funnier still, invest in charter schools in Engle-Hood...
Rahm & Rauner are doing it and making money, why can't we?
Hey it's election time. The reverends can buy up all the property and put more prefab storefront dope-front, down-low churches. Why can't I buy property in Englewood? It would be part of reparations from being driven out! Myself and fellow parishioners of the great boulevard should get first crack. Looks a lot like post war Germany!

Think about it like this. If they go to $4, you've doubled your money!
NC
Buy the whole block. First thing, is dig a moat and fill with alligators.
I own several lots il give you for free, I'd be happy to have someone else pay the city fines, you put a fence up the animals steal it, and you get a $200 ticket the next day for no fence. You can't put up a wood fence because you get a $200 ticket for having a combustible fence. When the animals get out of school and throw their grape pop cans and chetto bags on your lot $200 fine. When they rip your manage by sign off the fence because it's there and if they can't fuck it or eat it they destroy it $200 fine. So if any of you future speculators want free lots in engle wood leave your email and you will be contacted, because I can't even donate to the west side churches they've smartened up.
And to think just before the bust in 2007 people were actually paying upwards of $40,000 (high end) for vacant single family lots in Englewood.
You buy the lot for a buck and realize you get a two grand property tax bill for it each year,
You get the lot for a dollar, and each ordinance ticket that is sent to you costs 500 bucks a pop,
You get the lot for a dollar and get sued by the city legal dept for each time someone enters on 'your' lot to spray graffiti or dump their trash,
You get the lot for a dollar and cannot use it for anything without a zoning variance,
You get the lot for a dollar in a neighborhood where all the construction last went up circa 1965, when it was still a white neghborhood,
You get a lot that is worthless as a revenue, business or residential location, and can only be guaranteed to cost you money.
What are the property taxes on a $1.00 city lot?
They have been doing this for years. back in the early 70's they were selling lots next to homes for $1. A lot of people bought the lots but I think there was some kind of trickery to it, just do not remember what it was.
fine the people that have garbage in the alley , everywhere but in the can. every call in Englewood check for smoke detectors , dog licenses any building code violations found , complete a caps report .
how's the revenue from possession of marijuana and that 8:30 pm curfew working out .
some people take not give .

Theory fail: Streamwood, Woodstock, Lincolnwood, Wood Dale, Hawthorn Woods. Try again.
Meh...
Life is but a dream...
Now ain't that but about a BITCH!
The little people in Chicago aren't meant to prosper and make money. they exist to pay fees and fines so you can forget about snatching up a dollar lot because you'll owe the taxes and The Revenu'ers will be in your ass like cheap tissue with the fees, fines and tickets...
Burn it all to the ground and rock salt it...
Anonymous is right on, you buy the
lot for a dollar but you will still
pay property taxes for it.
And when the little darlings and the
big ones dump trash on it the Mayor's Dumpster Divers will write
you up and you gotta pay a fine.
And you don't really own the lot,
you incur a 99 year lease from Cook County, the "real owner.
You can't own land, just lease it
with certain rights, remember what
happens if you don't pay your property taxes. But like the realtors say, "get lots while you're young."

Really? Streamwood? You should try again.
"Some people said they were looking...for...a place where young people can be in the area.”
Dear God.
Go ahead. Buy a lot, pave it, put a basketball hoop in the middle with a light that never goes off.
And a sign. "Mumia Abu-Jamal Park."
I'd say "There goes the neighborhood," except that it's already gone.
