Barricade Job on the Drive

Homicide suspect from Georgia, comes to Harvey and gets chased into Chicago. By the time you read this, the job might be over, but it's been going on since early Sunday afternoon with Lake Shore Drive shut down for hours:
  • Police this afternoon fired on a car driven by a former Chicago-area man wanted in connection with his wife's killing in Georgia after police pursued the car from suburban Harvey to North Lake Shore Drive, where a standoff closed the drive, authorities, witnesses and the man’s sister said.

Henry County, Ga., police had contacted Harvey police about the location of a vehicle wanted in connection with a murder and police located the car about 12:24 p.m., but the car fled and was pursued to near Fullerton Avenue and Lake Shore Drive, according to a statement from Harvey.

[...] The standoff shut down Lake Shore Drive from near downtown to Lakeview, snarling traffic throughout downtown and the North Side.
Word earlier was a CPD OFficer got hurt during the chase, whether from a crash or gunfire, we haven't heard. Hopefully, the killer is neutralized one way or another.

Best wishes to the injured copper.

UPDATE: Job ended just before 2200 hours. Offender in custody is what we heard.

A killer drives through my city endangering lives and property and the police response is to majorly inconvenience the law abiding citizens.
Get on the bullhorn and tell him he has 3 options.
Surrender, suicide or a violent death at the hands of police.
Give him 30 seconds to consider and start a column of 8 men with rifles shouldered walking toward him. In short order the situation will be resolved and the drive opened up for the law abiding citizens.

Waited until it got dark, flashbanged m/f, hauled him out car, cuffed, went through, strapped to gurney, off to Northwestern ER, headed back south to face murder charges real soon. Over. For him. Everyone else will be up 'til noon sorting it out but...

Outstanding.

Two previous convictions in Cook County (of course) for Attempted Murder. Sounds like this guy developed a behavioral pattern long ago.

Sister says 'bro was discombobulated and probably afraid. Oh the poor little bunny rabbit, afraid, oh my. Of what? Facing Georgia justice for murdering his wife? No time for a divorce.

Sounds like a violent piece of shit. Would respond well to a .308 near the ear.

I hope they have enough of a guard detail till this scumbag gets on the Georgia Express. Bye bye asshole. Georgia does have the death penalty. Death Row in Georgia is at Jackson, Georgia, Butts County. Most recent malefactor to be dispatched was in Feb, 2013. Seems like they are serious about their murderers down there.

To all you johnny come lately private citizens who know nothing about SWAT protocol . Sorry for the inconvenience but Lake Shore Drive is not owned by you liberals, what you would do is not what is done, first off if the SWAT TEAM would have stormed this car and killed the man, who was alone you liberal public folks whould have a field day with the SCUM TIMES and said the police were overbearing, Our CPD SWAT TEAM follows a certain set of rules and does an outstanding job, so when you saw that a problem was occurring on the drive, you take an alternate route. You must watch too too much Television and movies. Mind your own business, and the bottom line, no Officers or any citizen was injured and if you must know, Preservation of life comes first, so what if the drive was closed down. Dear "Taxpayer": you must be in the minority.

Point 1 - Here in Chicago, the majority are bleeding-heart liberals who would be horrified and upset if the police just went in there quickly, probably killing the suspect, just to resolve the situation as soon as possible.

Point 2 - Your suggestion of a "column of 8 men with rifles shouldered walking toward him" is interesting. Chicago Police were warned that the suspect may be "heavily armed." So, just how many of these 8 Chicago Police Officers are expendable, to possibly get shot and killed just so your inconvenience of having Lake Shore Drive closed could be over sooner? 1, 2, all of them? Wonderful, Brave Officers and Noble Souls, now dead, their children growing up without a father, because they immediately walked up to the suspect's car with rifles, as you suggest.

I'm glad you're not in charge of CPD. A lot of us could be dead right now because of you.

Here'e the backstory on this matter. On 16 March 2014, 0035 hrs. 012th District mission team #1206N responds to an OEMC call of an "assault just occurred" in an apartment on the 2000 W. Jackson Blvd. block. Upon arrival the officers find two terrified females who state a relative, Felton, had just fled the apartment and threatened to return and kill them. The women further stated that Felton was accompanied by another male who claimed that Felton admitted to him that he killed his wife in their home in Georgia. The officers contact Georgia police who verify all the facts; however, Georgia police indicate they were only in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant and had been tracking Feltons cell phone in Chicago for two days. Georgia police further state Felton might be driving a black 2006 Chrysler 300 M, stolen from a relative in Georgia but not yet entered as stolen into NCIC.

Concerned that an unaware beat car might encounter Felton on a traffic stop the officers call Area Central where a sympathetic call taker replies that since Georgia police had yet to obtain either an arrest warrant, or list the car as stolen, little could be done at the moment. Dissatisfied with that response the officers do a case report for the assault. A sergeant calls Area Central a second time and the decision is now made to get the offender and vehicle information into LEADS for the assault with all information relative to the Georgia homicide in the miscellaneous caution field. The officers further call CPIC and request that an informational bulletin is issued.

The rest is history and it shows what a few extra taken steps might accomplish. 1206N responded to a relatively mundane call, discovered it could be "the big one" and took the time and made the effort to protect each and every one of us. Kudo's to them and everyone involved early on, during the pursuit, and who made the pinch!

This asshole & alumni of the famous Cook County Circus (intentional) Court "Catch and Release" program commits one of the funkiest of crimes in Georgia then flees back to "home dirt" here in Chicago and causes a tangle?

Can we please have a ring-side seat to this oxygen thief's execution?

Oh yeah... You best better believe the righteously outraged people of Georgia are going to do their lawful duty and burn this dog to a blackened, crispy skeleton...

Heh... Cook County Circus Courts should be on a hot seat of their very own.

Revoke judicial and prosecutorial immunity or at least reduce/destroy it to where they're standing under the same slim and moving shadow The Police have to work under.

If judges and prosecutors are naked and exposed to the same or greater danger than The Policeman, the system will in short order purify itself as the incompetent are made an example of in the criminal and civil arenas.

As far as the victim is concerned?
She apparently was in the thrall of a vicious, controlling, narcissistic asshole who couldn't let go. Classic serial domestic offender. May she rest in peace.

As far as The Police are concerned?

They apparently did everything the LAW required of them.

OT: Only the Best and Brightest
IAD Sgt takes a dump at the Bridgeport Diner and leaves ...... forgeting his 45 in the can.

He doesn't return for a couple of hours
Doesn't call 911
Tries doing his own detective work ... checking video (which requires him to leave and go next door - Twice) Meanwhile his "suspects" leave.
Now he calls for another Sgt and refuses to tell the dispatcher why.

Then he wants the responding police to take in a 7 month pregnant woman and sweat her under the lights because she had been eating breakfast with his "suspects" ..... the same "suspects" he let walk out during his two trips next door to review the video .... before he ever called for assistance or reported his ahem...loss.

I wonder if that merit list is ever coming out? Id like to see if this douche is on it.

I'm sorry, as a tax payer I am pissed.

I second that, and I wasn't even there to see it.
People these days have no concern or compassion for anyone else; it's all about them, 24/7. Who cares if someone's mom is in that ambulance? It's inconveniencing me! Who cares if a police officer is trying to save you from a murderer by apprehending him on Lake Shore Drive? I have to get to my very important manicure appointment! Let me on the Drive!!

3/17/2014 10:22:00 AM

Thanks, 1206N, for doing what we know everyone SHOULD do, but don't always bother. You may have saved a few lives by your actions. Thanks, again.

A buddy of mine were at breakfast this morning (he's CPD I'm burbs) and I told him the same thing was on my mind. Once the shits were fired...what made them stop? The shots being fired implied there was a cause for deadly force so what threat was neutralized to cause them to stop shooting? I was kind of confused myself.

Reminds me of a north shore woman who would not get out of the way of a CFD ambulance, insisting she wanted to turn and not go straight as an officer was telling her to do.

The CR alleged that the officer went up to the woman's car and the officer motioned for her to roll the window down. The officer then allegedly told her to move or he would put a bullet between her eyes. PO from 015 on Xmas window detail. She moved pretty quick.

Not sustained.

I agree with a lot of what "Taxpayer" said about 12:27am... Give him his options:

* Get of of the car with your hands up

* Die in a hail of gunfire

Fuck that waiting until dark, and flash bang crap.

I wouldn't go in with a column of 8 guys though - get out that wonderful armored troop transport, pull up close and shoot the jagoff.

OR, he's apparently a mental case right? So how about you get out the bomb disposal robot - roll it up to his car with a tear gas container, and bull horn out that you're putting a grenade under his car... Moron won't know the difference.

I really hate how CPD has been rendered ballless. Time was this clown would have been yanked out, tuned up, and might live... and LSD would be open for traffic inside of an hour... but 9 hours? Geezus.... what a clusterfuck - the inmates are truly running the asylum.

I am a Sergeant from 018 who was on the scene on LSD on Sunday. I saw the CPD Command Van on the scene but it was pretty hectic around there, but I was wondering what happened to that Greek Sergeant who was always around when the Command Van went out, I talked with him last year at the Air Show and boy, did this guy his stuff, I sure hope he didn't get dumped, anybody know about him ? please post it back

Officers on the scene handled things great, but the politicians in charge fucked up royally. This could have and should have ended during daylight. And since shots were fired in the chase, they would have been justified in blowing the fucker away. No lawsuit or misconduct investigation would have gone anywhere.

It took way too long. Get the scene secure. Send in Swat to either remove him by force or shoot him. This was embarrassing. Should have just let the beat cars get him. Would have ended a lot quicker.

You got to be kidding! Looked at deeper than a death penalty case? They are the most scrutinized cases in the country. 7 witnesses picked Troy Davis out as the shooter. Ballistics matched another shooting in which he was charged. You mean they got the wrong guy twice in a row? The murder was of a cop working as security in Burger King. Lights on, people around, all that, cop tries to break up a fight and boom! DOA for the police officer. I'm satisfied. How about Mumia Abu-Jamal, aka Wesley Cook? Any doubts about him? They finally sprung him off of death row in 2012. Now it is life without parole for Mumia.
___________\\________________

Most(or a few) of the witnesses recanted their testimony, the ballistics tests were also proved to be unreliable. So yes, I believe it could have been looked in to a little deeper. The guy had 2 stays of execution I believe, more evidence gets released almost ensuring his innocence and he gets executed? I'm unfimiliar with the second case you've stated.

All my years on the job here and the Davis case fits the cookie cutter mold of how a case involving mostly shitheads goes to hell quickly. Witnesses aren't any good, over time, they change their story. Lawyers file motion after motion, trying to cast doubt on evidence. Eyewitnesses suddenly get religion and declare version 28 of their story to be the one true version. And offender shouts louder and louder, "see, I told you I was innocent."

I don't buy all that crap. I feel that with a halfway competent preliminary investigation, the best story is the first version. After that, piss on them.

The Mumia case, aka Wesley Cook, was the murder of a Philadelphia police officer. Mumia-Cook was convicted for the 1981 murder of police officer Daniel Faulkner. They had the right guy first time and offender became a "cause" for folks like Sister Helen Prejean, Jane Fonda, the guy from MASH and other people who lent their name and reputation to getting a murdering SOB sprung from death row. They succeeded, he is now doing life without parole and I think the death penalty got kicked out in Pennsylvania.

The murder weapon, a Charter .38 was found next to Mumia, he was shot by the officer, the officer died with bullets in him from Mumia's gun which he had in a shoulder holster. 5 spent rounds in the Charter.

And then they concocted the amazing disappearing unknown dude who came from nowhere, took the gun, killed the officer and then disappeared back into the fog. Bullshit.

There is an old ghetto theory of crime investigation, that is, the nearest shithead to the scene is the guilty guy about 99.9% of the time. Here's was a guy with the murder weapon and cops bullets inside him after the officer shot him and the cop with shithead's bullets in him.

Need we go any further than that? No one beamed the real offender up to the mother ship for a quick trip back to live with the Klingons.

Still, the guy from Chicago is looking at another 20 years of life, at least, if he is convicted and if he gets the death penalty.

Not surprising officers would go the extra mile in 012. Great cops there.

OT. I received the ambulance bill in the mail Thursday, and was wondering who I submit it to. The CFD guys told me not to pay it, and to send it in. I called fop, but the ladies who answered didn't know, and the guy they transferred me to didn't return my call.

3/17/2014 05:27:00 PM

Look up the G.O. on it and it'll tell you exactly what to do.

Just A Citizen says: Is this cockroach deserving of tying up LSD for that long? Disrupting everyone's life? Wasting all your time? WHY? And why does it take ALL DAY LONG to apprehend this animal? He gets 30 seconds to get out or you take him, by force, the good old fashioned way. Period. When did criminals get more rights than law abiding citizens? You officers have WAY TOO MANY politically correct ways to do things. God bless all you out there dealing with these sub-humans.

Just knew we should never have told the truth about it being a murderer! Shoulda told the media it was because of a puppy on the ice. Everybody would have been on board then, no matter how long it took to save the doggy.

To the 018 Dist. Sergeant apparently on days inquiring about the missing "Greek Sgt." from the Command Van... IF you attended the Corned Beef/Cabbage Dinner to show support to your fellow retirees, you'd have noticed, Sgt. Nicholas Stasinopoulos, retired effective 15 Nov 2013 with 37 years of honorable service.
I got that info from YOUR (Sgts.) Chevrons newsletter that posted Nicks name right by a Sgt. Eugene Richmond's retirement from 018 effective the same date.
You DO know Sgt. Richmond is missing from days now, don't you?

P.S. They're 'both' good guys and will be missed.

Wow, I just got onto the Blog and wss interested in what negative stuff was posted about the SWAT event on LSD. Im a civilian worker with Streets and San, and I know the Sergeant that you guys had on the police command vans for special events and emergencies, this guy rocked, worked with him at the Air and Water show for the last 2 years and he was outstanding, I asked a question on how to get the traffic on the NorthAve. ramp stopped so we could help a truck driver in and this guy walked up the ramp, stopped traffic and helped us out. when the driver couldn't back this semi in right, Sgt. Nick jumped in the truck, backed it right in , this guy was amazing, I heard him talking with our boss about having to leave due to mandatory retirement, what I don't get is why they don't hire him back, he was a gem for sure.
