Lot (un)Secured

Thieves are getting bold:
  • There was a especially brazen incident the other night in the Parking lot in 025. The private tow driver put a policeman's car on the back of his tow truck and was about drive off with it, when another police officer saw what was going on, and stopped the driver before he could leave. There is pretty clear evidence that this was no honest mistake. Driver was arrested, Felony charges denied by the state. Another example of poor facility security.
"Security" and "Chicago Police Facility" aren't words you generally see in the same sentence, thought, or territory. Nice job by the alert copper who actually took the time to see what the hell was going on.

The ASA office denied Felony Approval because the tow driver had been licensed by the city to tow vehicles. Never mind that this "licensed" tow driver is a convicted felon with a burglary conviction...guess the dumb ass ASA thought the tow driver was just making an honest mistake? Though he had four tow reports in his possession from 025, none of which matched the coppers vehicle whiy was on the tow truck...hmmm Anita you have some splain'n to do... Time to retrain Felony Review on what constitutes PSMV.

They found what was wrong and where the short comings are at so they could be addressed. I believe it was done by some former FBI guys. JFed had taken care of the security issues at the district stations! I even remember that there was talk about gates for the lot in 025! We just laughed at the guy when he said that! Now that I think of it he did seen a it hurt be laughed at, oh well.

The most glaring example of how poor security is in 025 was when it was attacked by the newsmedia during the Abatte incident. First they tried an all out frontal assault, then a flanking manuver by trying to get in through the side drive. Captain Marc Buslic set up a perimeter in a valiant effort to save his men and the station but that was all for naught because the Fat Phil being the man amoung men that he is, demoted Captain Buslic to Lieutenant for having the audacity to ensure the safety of the building and the men and women that work there. Since then thugs, gangsters, garbage men just about anyone who wants too can drive right through the lot. If I were a terrorist looking for a target, 025 would be at the top of my list. But then again so would any CPD facility. They are all unsecured.

Poor security? It was a city contracted tow truck in the lot to tow prisoners vehicles. If you are worried about security, stop bringing the prisoners cars to the rear lot, put them in the front lot, goof. Good spot by the coppers by the way.

But the powers that be are too preoccupied with more important matters like how many contact cards were written last week.

They are always loosening the lug nuts on squad cars and personal cars in the back lot of 25. Station security needs a strict protocol. The 1st watch sgt was parked next to the car being towed but didn't know who's vehicle it was and just thought it was an arrestees vehicle. Should we have a secured lot with an officer at the entrance like at 35th st? Absolutely, that way the officer can monitor access and egrees from the lot and verify the vehicles being towed are the right ones.
But implementing a secured facility would cost money and take manpower off the street. The last thing on the bosses minds is the safety and security of district stations.

Don't want to hold down a car for station security? Tell the cars, that if they want to take their lunch in the Dist. lot, you'll give them an hour lunch. Rotate it around. Some Districts don't have much in the way of take out that's edible, but in some Dist's it might work. With getting your lunch, driving to the lot and an hour, it's like 1 1/2 hr lunch, just to watch the lot.

It still comes down to driving an expensive car for 30 years or having another $500k in deferred upon retirement. For me the choice is simple. My last car while working was a basic model Honda Accord, plain jane car, 4 cyl, I bought it used but in very good shape and drove it for 12 years. All my cars were like that. That left me quite a bit more in deferred. When I retired I spent $65,000 on a new car and go to a warmer climate every winter. After New year's I head to Arizona in time for spring training.

I get those 3% COLA's every Jan 1 and even if they cut the pension a bit I have plenty in reserve. No headaches or whatever worrying about the pension. No worrying about anything.

Now is when I buy those new cars, not when I was working third watch someplace.

One comment for laughs and one in all seriousness. My ancient joke I always used in high school:" If you've got a big dick, you don't need a fancy car". The girls loved and the guys with fancy cars hated the observation.

I've said it so many times before on this blog but I'll say it again. You young guys don't need the latest technical stuff, a late model car with it's high payments and insurance costs, and particularly credit card debt. Pour your money into deferred comp!!! Max it out and get into a Roth as well! Your car will be a depreciated piece of junk in 8-10 years and the electronic stuff that you buy is outdated six months after it was purchased. And even a certified moron knows that credit card debt eats you alive. You will be old one day. You may or may not have a decent pension. Age fifty is not the time to start thinking about your retirement. Stay safe.

How many guys did this and saved for retirement and died before they could enjoy it. One guy said he bought his car after retirement. You can't drive when your dead.
Also there are some things you can't enjoy as much when you are old. Whether that is because of health there are still things you can only do when you are young,
Has to be a balance

Don't forget the great idea of having a stair case that comes down from the Central ave bridge right into the back lot. Yes, it's for the "metra commuters" but at least block it with some of those black Vanecko gating co, LLC fences...

Yes the WC should have called for an override but I am sure the 1st watch Lt was already fast asleep in her bed by the time this occurred therefore no call. I know, I know, you will say she's a great boss mind your own business!! Etc,etc, if she really was such a great boss she would have done the right thing and just because she leaves every night by 0200 doesn't make her a great boss because now your lazy asses go home. When it comes to personal property getting fucked with there are ZERO excuses!

3/16/2014 06:22:00 AM

Why don't you shut the fuck up? Lt. M.P. is a good boss. She is good to me. I do everything the boss asks me to do and then some more. I get along with others. Perhaps you should stop being so angry and just relax a little and also do your fucking job. The Lt. likes you as long as you fucking do your job. Not much to ask for. But for you I guess it is. Also, never, ever, ever air out our personal laundry on a public forum. Have a nice day snitch.

Lug nuts removed from a marked squad in 024 last week. For anyone not familiar with 024 it is a wide open parking lot within 6 blks away from most of the Radical Jihadists in Chicago. Recipe for disaster if any real bad guys want to target us.During the Wrought Iron Fence frenzy you'd think a police lot would take precedent over a vacant lot.

3/15/2014 10:00:00 AM

Radical Jihadists? Easy, Francis.

3/16/2014 11:23:00 AM

Yeah, and they'd NEVER hijack a few airplanes, now would they? Silly conspiracy theorists!

So you couldn't have had someone on days help you with the paper? You are the witness! You complain about day guys. Write out a quick narrative give them your court date and go home. You got to take care of each other!

Thats da point ass hat, the guys in 018 didn't care at all. Numerous guys said oh its nothing. Yes I was tired, yes I was up all night, yes it was my day off and yes the second watch did not care. But no I didn't do anything, and yes I was a lazy ass. So just that you are clear about what I was saying, I didn't complain about the second watch, I was telling people about how no one cares, even me cause I was tired and sleepy. On the other hand I caught a ass hat in the parking lot of 011 while working and locked him up for CTTSSL. If the second watch officers in 018 would have cared I would have been happy to stick around an extra 15 minutes. But they were too busy going to go something else and I was busy thinking about going to sleep.

Gentlemen

When I taught on the South Side i always drove a Ghetto Cruiser.
My best was a 1962 checker marathon
I drove during the 80's.
Although mechanically perfect it
was so big and rusty everyone got out of my way.Numerous stops by you gentlemen resulted in laughter when I explained my situation as a solution.

What a great vehicle. Could have parts replaced easily and it was a tank. The industry hated them cause they lasted forever and were easily maintained. That's why the taxi industry used them. Some people probably don't know what you're talking about. Good for you. Wish I had one now instead of my Mercury Marquis! Another taxi.

Retired

The whole point here is that shit like this never should've happened in the first place. So when everyone drives a beater to work and some asshole has the balls to vandalize those cars then what will be the excuse? Should've rode your bicycle to work? Should've taken the bus? Allowing some jagoff to dictate what we drive, where we go, etc? The fools that spout that "you should've..." bullshit are feeding the notion that somehow this is the officer's fault for driving something nice. Same people that probably blame the victims of a CSA for the crime. Don't blame the offender, don't blame lax security and management's indifference, blame an honest working officer who pays the bills.

Average cop retirement = 4-6 years. So if u can't live within your means of 70k a year something is wrong with u. Invest in a budgeting class.

Man o man... You guys are a bunch of bitter old salty coppers. Just about anyone reading this would be in a bad mood when they're done. Stop with the glass half empty attitude. Get a nice car that you can afford and enjoy driving, get some good insurance, ignore the politics of work (as best you can) and have fun with the job, do something every shift that you would be proud to tell your family about and stop sweating the small stuff. Life is too short to live like that man. Stay safe and make it a good day!
