Ladner Gives Two Weeks Notice?

Rumor popping up.

Is our long nightmare finally over? Did the FOIA request for "merit" picks finally seal her fate? Or was it just time for her to get on her broom and fly away to ruin another government office?

Will we finally get a legit hiring list that doesn't penalize military people or the families of Officers?

Somebody better frisk her on the way out the door - she might be smuggling out all the "merit" lists no can seem to produce.

When you see someone like Ladner reach a position of power through clout, don't you want to get rid of that power structure?

Evidently not because in looking at the Cook County vote, Dart won comfortably.

Reading this blog for a long time, I would have thought Dart would have had more opposition to his re-election.

SCC and other (True News) laid out enough reason to not re-elect him. What happened?

It wasn't even a close race.

Evidently, more of you are sheeple than what you really want to admit.

Your best bet is to see when a class of recruits is graduating or getting off their probation. They appear to time the class with them graduating. Five or six weeks prior to them getting out is when a class should go in. I was in the last class and they held us an extra week so they could have one ceremony. Good luck, however McDrunk did say he was putting another class in about the same size as ours as soon as we graduate. Mind you it has been 6 weeks. I think whoever is under 25 on the list is safe, anybody over maybe not.

We need to rescind that last hiring list as high scoring applicants are at the bottom of the so called lottery list . Fifteen weeks to assemble the applicant list when the test was scantron is suspicious at best . Applicants who chose not to proceed with power test from 2010 are now being called up and are requested to come in and move forward in the hiring process. Yes you heard that right , applicants refuse to show up are now being handed a job. Nice job ladner , on to bigger n better places. .

" “I understand the city needs to save money and Obamacare may turn out to be a good option,” Dougherty said.
Also, Bill needs messaging discipline with his guys. Which is it? That you all told Shields to send the letter and he refused or you didnt find out until it was too late.

OT: To ALL FOP members who are planning on retiring someday.

Dear Fellow Retirees,
Retirees cannot afford to be complacent about this FOP election. Too much rides on the outcome – the future of our health care benefits, the benefits provided to our spouses, and especially our pension fund that we worked so hard to secure. Traditionally, our voice has been a strong one that has had influence over how the FOP operates, with huge numbers of retirees voting for candidates that protect their interests and those of the working police.

Unfortunately, this past election for FOP offices has been mired in drama and the number of ballots mailed in by retirees has been alarmingly low. As your FOP Retiree Committee Chairman, this is what I know: Dean Angelo is the better pick over Bill Dougherty and the Citywide Team. My feelings are shared by most of the working police officers I have talked with in the past weeks.

There is a laundry list of reasons for me to be outspoken about this election and deciding to endorse a candidate and his team. The strongest reasons lie behind Dougherty’s long track-record of not looking out for interests of both retirees and the working police, and the drama he enjoys stirring up instead of focusing on the job that needs to be done – keeping his eyes on what’s best for ALL members.

As a retiree, I’m not concerned about gossip. My concern is about my pension and health care as a retiree. Unfortunately, the Citywide Team has spent an exhausting amount of energy during this campaign attacking Dean Angelo on non-issues and finger-pointing instead of telling me what they can and will do for us.

Dougherty’s public opinion on health care is downright scary for retirees. In a February 6, 2014, Sun-Times article, Bill Dougherty stated, “I understand the City needs to save money and ObamaCare may turn out to be a good option.” It sounds to me like this new fan of ObamaCare has already struck a deal with Emanuel at the expense of the retirees.

In another underhanded move, Dougherty’s crony, Steve Robbins, attempted to reduce the number of retirees allowed on the Board of Directors. Thankfully, this attack on retirees was voted down by active and alert members. This sneaky attempt to change the election by-laws of the FOP would have seriously undermined our voice in the union that is legally bound to represent our best interests. What was his purpose for doing this? It seems to me that this is another example of his need to change the rules when he feels threatened by opposition.

On the other hand, a few weeks ago at North Side retirees’ luncheon, Dean Angelo was the only candidate that promised to follow through on the class action lawsuit continuing the Korshak litigation (Underwood et. al. vs the City). Dougherty would not address this issue.

It was on Dougherty’s watch that the retroactive letter was not sent. Dougherty was well-aware of the deadline to submit the letter, and admitted to never telling Mike Shields. In the September 2013 General FOP Meeting and the September Board Meeting, Dougherty admitted on the record that as vice-president of the FOP and a returning elected board member, he was well- aware of the deadline to submit the letter, but never told Shields, who actively campaigned against him in the 2011 FOP election.

It appears that not telling Shields was strategic, and part of some personal vendetta rather than about doing what’s needed for members. It is a telling tale that even former Citywide Team candidates Greg Bella and Tom McDonough have switched their allegiance to Angelo.

21 of the 26 candidates that ran under the Angelo, Clean Slate and Pension Watch Dog Teams WERE ELECTED. Only 5 of Dougherty's City Wide Team were elected. THAT TELLS YOU THAT THE MEMBERSHIP WANTS CHANGE!!!

Retirees need to vote out the Bill Dougherty and the rest of the Citywide Team once and for all. Please vote this election and help me and other Angelo supporters get the FOP back to running business and working for our membership.

Warm Personal Regards, Paul Vitaioli

You are wrong. She had her hand in the screwing over of many fine officers and would be recruits. All of a certain skin color lacking melanin. Somehow, the CHIEFS were afraid of her. That is the bigger mystery. How does a civilian "Director", equal rank to Commander, tell a Chief "no" to something like a the transfer of a PO? Mind boggling.

She had WAY too much power over this Department that many of you don't even realize. Every award, every IOD authorization, every assignment and more.

The worst part about her was her demeanor. If you were in a room with her, you simply did not exist. For all the rumors of Weis ignoring PO's, I ran in to him frequently and he almost always gave a nod to others in the elevator. This woman treated EVERYONE like they did not exist, and certainly did not matter.

She will not be missed. People under her that tried to transfer somewhere else? She'd hold on to them for years and not let them move, then move them out to a District opposite of where they lived. No sympathy from the troops who loved seeing a "house mouse" dumped so hard. What the troops never seemed to care about was the extremely shitty and obviously revenge driven reason behind all of that.

Just a horrible person. The truly miserable are slowly weeding themselves out the last 12 months.

3/19/2014 12:27:00 PM

************

All well and good for you Paul, but try and remember one single thing can you? You're retired. You're not active anymore. The FOP represents ACTIVE members in contract negotiations. There are no contract negotiations for retired members, your contract days are over. The law protects you now not the FOP.

Nothing the FOP can do can impact those of us that are already retired, nothing. The FOP has no authority to bargain for benefits to which you are already entitled, none. Emanuel found this out when he tried to bargain a change into retirees benefits with that scumbag Ade. Not only did the membership vote it down, the legal challenge would have destroyed that part of the bargain.

Once again, the FOP has no authority to bargain on behalf of retirees, and it never SHOULD have that authority. You should be happier than a pig in shit that the law and the constitution protect what you currently receive, because only a fucking fool would want a constantly changing political hack bargaining every few years for their future.

If I were you, I'd shut the hell up about trying to advocate to have the FOP represent me in retirement, I prefer to use supreme court decisions and case law to protect my rights rather than either Dougherty or Angelo.

In some sense, there should be NO retirees sitting on an active member board, and they CERTAINLY should have zero input on matters that affect only ACTIVE members.

Our FOP should NOT be allowed to be a place where Emanuel can divide and conquer it because he's got active versus retired members constantly trying to screw the other over for their own benefit.

FOP should be required to fight ANY legislation that impairs or diminishes our benefits.

On the other hand, the only input the FOP should have is downstate to lobby for pension ENHANCEMENTS for ACTIVE members, seeing as how current retirees don't benefit from future enhancements.

But that's never gonna happen again in this life is it? So you don't have to worry about a representative downstate looking out for you, because ALL those traitorous motherfuckers in the legislature are trying to fuck us over in pensions, not a ONE of them is there to look out for you or I no matter how much we lobby them.

Springfield is DONE sweetening benefits..... so don't bother trying or asking. Nor is it worth the waste of time to call or bother your legislators because they ALL ignore what you want and do what's in THEIR best interest, which is trying to shit on current and future retirees.

The LAW is the only protector we have now, and it's only going to be the courts that enforce the laws that the legislature refuses to uphold.

So calm down.... and keep your nose out of the business of active members, you aren't one anymore and we don't need to be competing for time in the limelight with people who are protected by the law while we try to hammer out contracts that encompass only the conditions for active members.

It's OUR dues money that will pay for litigation against the city if the time ever comes that they try and cut benefits, not the minimal dues retirees pay. It's active members that will force the FOP to fight the city, because it's their obligation to do so.

On top of that he forgets to mention Angelo was part of a failed Nolan Regime, while Dougherty was part of the team that went to the courts to enforce the Korshak Decree and saved retirees millions of dollars in healthcare, yet somehow Angelo is the change candidate, just like his buddy Shields. Your bias is showing through Viatoli and it reeks of Shields support because you're still pissed that Dougherty ousted Lil Mikey.

I think it was because I was a non clouted white male.

Hey Vitaoli your brain must be turning to mush. Robbins ran with Shields and some kid named Angelo who was on the same ticket. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't we now paying for healthcare that used to be free until Angelo agreed to a buck a paycheck.

FOP Retiree Committee Chair my ass. You were appointed by none other than Mike Shields himself. Your opinion matters to me about as much as the dog shit on the sole of my shoe.

All of you active members reading this need to wake up and realize that the retirees are trying to take over this union and Dean Angelo is their guy. Don't believe me? Take a look at the 3/19 1227pm post. This retiree is trying to make this about actives vs retired. He was a Shields guy from day one. He's completely full of shit. Cast your ballots for the most experienced candidate, Bill Dougherty. You actives need to vote and take control of your union.

Wow, Bill Dougherty was in Area North tonight. The lies he will tell to keep his spot are unbelievable. Is a car on days in 022 that bad Bill? Desperation is all I can figure, he lies saying Dean Angelo is going to retire and take Chiefs pay in addition to his pension. If that was true his name would be Donahue. Dean was here the other day and showed us in writing he will cut his pay to capts then minus his $50,000 in disability. Bill you and your fat friend disgust me. Go Angelo!!

Bill you let Geiger take you down this slanderous road. I hope you both choke on the dust. Why wouldn't you just tell us what you will do to fix this mess? You don't have game. Go to 018 and work with Shields on days. You deserve each other.

Dear Paul,

You and your body Shogren are a tool. You are Chairman of the retiree committee and hang out in Florida. Shogren sits on the board again collecting $600 per month while he sits in Florida and does nothing. You guys need to move out to pasture just like your buddy Shields.

Together and Bella was partners with Frank Saenz Aguilars father in law. Bill you and Rich are plain ole disgusting. Anything to win.

At the fop mtg yesterday Battaglia was at podium and asked why is the political action committee endorsing candidates who are pushing to take and reduce our pensions and health care.a good question why?

3/19/2014 12:18:00 AM

You got me. What was the response?

Dougherty's response was the sound of crickets chirping. He thanked Battaglia but refused to answer the question. So he praises Obamacare, donates to Madigan, and attacks Angelo. He has not once said how he will better the Union.

Paul Vitiaioli says . . .

It appears that not telling Shields was strategic, and part of some personal vendetta rather than about doing what’s needed for members. It is a telling tale that even former Citywide Team candidates Greg Bella and Tom McDonough have switched their allegiance to Angelo.

But he's wrong. Either he's too out of touch or he's still got Shields in his ear like he did during Shields' election bid in 2011. Either way its a shame. Plenty other retirees disagree completely with his entire rant. Plenty other retirees know all the good that Bill has done for us. Bella didn't run with Citywide because they are the ones who found out about the Burge payout. McDonough isn't part of Citywide and judging by his comments on this blog one week to the next, he's only in this for himself. Vitiaioli can have his opinion, but he sure don't speak for all retirees.

That should read........ Warm Personal Regards, Longtime Mike Shields Supporter, Paul Vitaioli... As you can tell by his defending of Shields as the naive victim in the retro letter fiasco. On top of that he forgets to mention Angelo was part of a failed Nolan Regime, while Dougherty was part of the team that went to the courts to enforce the Korshak Decree and saved retirees millions of dollars in healthcare , yet somehow Angelo is the change candidate, just like his buddy Shields. Your bias is showing through Viatoli and it reeks of Shields support because you're still pissed that Dougherty ousted Lil Mikey.

Let's get this out of the way. Korshak was NOT a "Decree." That implies a decision by a court of law, out of the hands of the parties. Korshak was a SETTLEMENT that was agreed to by BOTH parties, the City AND those Retirees. The settlement agreed to by both the city and the plaintiffs (retirees) saved those plaintiffs millions and also resulted in the agreement for the city to "get out of the healthcare business" by 2013.

These are the same retirees that get the 3% cola that the rest of us born after 1955 will never see.

Good deal for those plaintiffs (retirees) and the city, bad deal for everyone else. This is what worries me about too many retirees in charge.

So please don't call the Korshak settlement a "Decree." Call it what it was...a bunch of retirees agreeing to a cut in their premiums at the expense of every working city employee and agreeing that the city would stop coverage for retirees after 2013.

Now we are scrambling to attempt to keep some kind of healthcare benefit for retirees in the future and it's looking like an uphill battle.

But hey, their premiums were reduced, right guys?

You should have been born earlier, what else can I say. And to better parents.

When I came on the COLA was way before my birth year. Only in the last legislative action did the year change to include me. That is how it went for many years. Every few years the FOP would push to have the COLA age moved up to include more. FOP tried many times to get the age thing off of there but then the economy tanked in 2007-08. FOP was told from Springfield no more pension enchancements that were not paid for somehow. That is when they started sounding the pension alarms.

The 1955 thing could be changed but it would mean another 1% or 2% goes to the pension fund out of the paychecks. Same with retiree insurance. Not a problem but it's another percent or two.

The guys that one poster states received cuts in their premiums, in the Korshak settlement, forgot to mention that these same retires, we're promised free health care for life. This free health care for retires, and their wives, was guaranteed by Richard J Daley, in lieu of a raise one year. There was no agreement, to get out of the health care business in 2013 by the city. The city, started charging retires for their health insurance, in violation of the agreement with Mayor Daley, the first. How was this done at the expense of every other city employee? This had nothing to do with active city employees. This was the city screwing it's retires!

You don't call the FOP, you call the city. The FOP has nothing to do with the refund of the retirees health care premiums.
Every year the city sets a health care premiums for specific retiree groups, by marital status, year of retirement, medicare and non medicare. At the end of the year in each specific group of retirees, the city takes the total costs for that group and divides it by the number of retirees in that group, then issues the rebate or refund.
My brother is single and retired prior to me. His check was substantially lower than mine.

In 1987 Harold Washington decided that the city did not have to pay for retirees health insurance. That is how and when the Korshak case started. Since then and approx every 10 years the retirees and the city reach an agreement that last for 10 years. The last agreement ended in 2013 so there is no settlement and Rahm says over the next 3 years the city is eliminating the subsidy to the retirees.

If you want the history from the beginning read this link. City just won the case, is presently being appealed by retirees. This explains it all
