$960

  • McHenry County taxpayers are subsidizing the incarceration of former Mayor Richard M. Daley’s nephew, who asked to serve his 60-day sentence at their jail rather than at the Cook County Jail for killing David Koschman.

The $16 a day that Daley nephew Richard J. “R.J.” Vanecko is paying to do his time at the McHenry County Jail is 81 percent less than the $85 a day that McHenry County charges the federal government to house people facing deportation.

McHenry County officials say Vanecko isn’t getting special treatment. They say the $16 rate was set by a judge in 1997 but that they hope to raise it.

Records show Vanecko paid his full tab of $960 with a money order issued Feb. 12 — two days before he began his sentence.
Gee, maybe if he had doubled the $18-per-day, he could have cut down on his sentence.

And what a comfort it must be to Mrs. Koschman that Vanecko is out almost a grand in addition to the 60 days. Hard time out in McHenry.

He should be out cleaning the sewers that his kin folk bilked from the city's pension funds.

He is paying his debt to society. He just isn't paying very much, and he is part of the Daley clan. It is Illinois and exceptions must be made.

I hate to disagree with ya, SCC. Vanecko does not belong in jail for this. I agree that this case got pushed aside and he was never prosecuted all because he is Daley's nephew, but the facts of the case are that he punched a guy in a bar fight. Yes, Koschman ended up hitting his head and dying, but Vanecko didn't intend on killing him. If he were anyone else than Daley's nephew or an off-duty cop, he would have never went to prison for this. Anyone else would have received Felony Probation at the very greatest.

Drunken fights happen all the time, it's life.
Sometimes people die as a result, that too is life.
The cover up that resulted from this death is pure Chicago.

Should have told him, "No, you go where everybody else does."

Bastard.

I understand he was disappointed the weather didn't break so he could bring his golf clubs to pass the time.

It is impossible to hate this family half as much as they deserve.

This came over the car radio yesterday and I immediately thought there should at least be an"off topic" post on SCC by me. But when I got home, I realized that this was way too fitting a topic for it not to be heard/read and given it's own space on this site by the moderators. Kudos!

Somehow I doubt this would be the case if Vanecko's bag of cash hadn't made its way to the white trash McHenry County officials.

If the number of comments here is any indication, this subject has just about used up it's 15 minutes. Time marches on. New events interest and outrage us. Time marches on. Nothing changes. Time marches on.

No justice when it comes to this crime family.

Things never, I mean NEVER change.

I often read where prisoners of ancient and medieval princes were kept prisoner in luxury. If they could pay for it.

Even Al Capone had fine carpets, furniture and a radio when lock-up, until he hit Alcatraz.

Columbian Drug Lord Pablo Escobar had a "prison" built just for himself in Columbia with all the amenities of a country club and even hired his own guards. This was to keep him from being extradited to the United States. When the U.S. and Columbian officials came to get him out he just walked away.

Doing time can be a vacation if you can pull the right strings.

Hmmm... I wonder if he Richie Vanecko gets conjugal visits.

Your missing the point. WEBB agreed to this,60 days. Why you ask. Because Daley got to him. Not directly but somehow through the political network he was told to make it go away easy and he did.If he was so righteous and really wanted the truth to come out he would have turned the offer down and said its going to trial. He just another political hack like the rest of them. They think everyone is dumb. Again the smartest man in the room is him. Burn the Dets and blow the smoke in their direction away from the source where it started,Koschmans and RJs friends WHO LIED,numerous times. So somehow that's Yawgers fault.Good luck Ron.
