OT: Did you see the propaganda article regarding pensions in the Scum Times, here is one paragraph, what a joke.

“Police and fire are in a panic. They want to know what’s going on. They’re not at the table. These guys have legislation they passed that puts Chicago into a precarious spot by requiring the city to come up with a massive amount of money. They didn’t include the rest of labor when they got that balloon payment that sucked up everything,” the source said.

How does McStreetlight promote over 200 Sgt's the past two years when they haven't promoted one detective the past 3+ years. I'm sure someone in the "presstitute" could find a clue to the clearance rate and the fact more detectives have retired than Sgts these past years. OT: Did you see the propaganda article regarding pensions in the Scum Times, here is one paragraph, what a joke.

**********

Oh I doubt many of us are in any sort of "panic".

We're all pretty well aware that Emanuel and the legislature are the motherfuckers scared shitless because they know full well all the bullshit legislation is about to be shit upon by the courts, and Emanuel's shitting bricks so HE'S the one in panic mode right about now.

WE DON'T GIVE UP A FUCKING THING TO PAY BACK WHAT THESE COCKSUCKERS STOLE FROM US.

The LAW covers our pensions entirely, and Emanuel is panicked that he'll have ZERO choice but to fund them as the law demands.

And as for those who think an amendment will be upheld? Guess again. The last trial balloon they tried to fuck public employees got shoved up their fucking ass, and they know the same fate awaits them it the try that shit again.

So I repeat... Emanuel's the little punk who's shitting his diaper now, NOT us.

We're covered..... and they KNOW it. So they're panicking to try to deal before they get assfucked for the final time in court.

Let it ride..... we get what we're owed, and there's nothing they can do to prevent it.

Still promoting cpd aristocracy, I see. Until there is rank-order promoting from an objective ONLY (no oral or merit) exam, this shit won't end. The Tannehills of the department need to be put on an equal footing with everyone else. Then let's see how many get promoted. The unions need to make this a priority. Unearned promotions are a big reason this department is so screwed up. No one respects these people. Regina, I'm going to the big house, Evans should never have been within a mile of a white shirt.

OT: Did any of you see this article in the Sun Times the other day? It basically rips the police saying that the cops always take the side of the male at domestics. Forget the fact that most of these victims refuse to press charges and if they do or if we sign complaints for them they don't come to court and forget the fact that the idiot who wrote this article and Dawn Dalton have never been to a domestic call before. Seems like Dawn is smearing the police in order to make herself and her organization seem like they are needed and relevant.

Not true. The last class with no merit was Apr 96

3/28/2014 10:04:00 PM

Get your facts straight!!! I was in that last legit class of sergeants with Juan Rios. We graduated 3 Mar 97. My final ranking was 3XX. If need be, I can probably dig up my letters. How about you? Every last one of us in that class made it on our scores alone!!!

Like most people, I don't agree with the merit process, but it is what it is. I strongly feel that if it's going to stick around, you should only be allowed ONE bite at the merit apple.

That said, crawl back into your parent's basement, troll, and GFY!!!

Wow....just WOW! RC couldn't lead a one man band on an empty eight lane highway. He has single handedly rewritten most traffic laws to include "if the party in question is a police officer he /she is guilty, no matter how traffic videotapes actually prove him /her to be correct in their actions.....they are automatically in the wrong"..... and JR. "that detective should go to jail because no one told him to write that report that way...the investigation and the reports are his problem not his bosses " the same. JR who said that no one could run from a bus tire faster than him and he proved it by throwing his people under the bus so often that they call him the Sgt Roadkill. The same JR who outed a colleague D -Sgt with a football shaped head to his Lt. on the floor infront of everyone at Area N and added lies and rumors to bolster his case out loud upon a floor full of Dets who knew he was lying .....and he continued until a CR was threatened for demanding immeadite results or he would call his PRPA clout. Yeah these are two of the most asshat people anyone could say deserve to be promoted.....watch your backs out there these two will hurt you in a heartbeat. Dylan Hata.

Before 1996 there were no merit picks once the city started giving tests for promotion. This is what started the secret study groups and some people actually given the test early. The Sergeants class made in December 1996 was held hostage for three months while a law suit was filed. The city actually won the suit, which they actually tried to loose, and no merits were added to the class. The Sgt's got promoted, Daley went nuts on Corp Council and took the list down well before the minimum of 500 had been made off the list he had promised. The city changed the personnel code so it could make merit in the future.

The city had not given a supervisors test for 9 years. There were good people on the list who thought they would get promoted because Daley promised to make at least 500 off the list. Anyone who thinks merit is not tied to politics just needs to study what happened in 1996. There aren't a lot left but you know any supervisor of dick who made it before Jan 1 1997 was not merit.

I made Sgt in Apr 1996 and it was rank order. No merit. We sat in the academy for 3 months while an injunction filed by 13 m/1 and f/1's was decided. Finally it was decided that the department did not reserve any merit in its original test announcement and therefore had to abide by that. 250 Sgts all in rank order. You'll never see that again.

Could it also be that plenty of times the men aren't wrong?

Remember he put some asshole hating copper in his place at Roll Call one morning. Big prick wanted NO PART of Giltmier. After roll call we all laughed at the gangbangin fool who was the police. Who eventually went to and to this day is in the penitentiary. Humble guy who knew the job. Went on calls with me not to check up but to back me up. I used to run retirement parties in old 006 and a month before Jack retired he caught me in the pklot of station and said, "Don't you dare throw a party for me. Just want to walk out." Kinda granted his wish. RIP Jack. But even meeting daughter Beth the one time when she was a Sgt knew she would be a great boss! Congrats Beth. I know your Dad's Proud and Smiling down on you. TC

You are correct, sir. Before the City of Chicago bastardized their still undefined word "merit", we simply called the morons and political hacks what they truly are--CLOUT CHEATERS!

"Merit" is nothing more than this most corrupt City's euphemism for Management Arbitrary Discretion [aka M.A.D.]

MAD can include bribery, nepotism, cronyism, sexual favors or any combination thereof. It does NOT include the Merriam-Webster definition of the word "merit". Don't even get me started on the "Gold Braid" pension scam.

City of Chicago: Take your "merit" and shove it up your collective asses. Call it what it is, you shameless muthafuckahs!

We have cases coming out of our ears, but that's all good-you can only do the best you can with the resources they give you. Don't sweat the small stuff, it's still the best spot in the department.

You're correct. MT and the former commander are brothers. I actually worked with their father, Harry Sr. Old time wagon man in the old 20th District. He was definitely the best of all of them.

I too worked with the father at 020 and he and Fleischman were the best. Kids don't always follow the father path, but also the job is different now.

Harry was a Roger Whalen protegee serving as his tact lt. in 009 when Roger was commander there. I believe they were wired to Jane Byrne so that goes back over 30 years. There were five Tannehills on the job ... Harry Sr. and his sons Harry Jr., Mike, Marty & Brian. Never worked with or for Harry Jr. but worked with all his brothers and they were all good people as far as being stand up

You history is correct. Actually started in the mid 60's in 020. Roger was a cadet there, Harry a tact man. Think there also was a connection with Wrigley Field security. Not sure about Harry, but the others were pretty good guys.

How does McStreetlight promote over 200 Sgt's the past two years when they haven't promoted one detective the past 3+ years

There will never be a detective "promotion". It's not a rank. They're assigned, not promoted.

Most responsibility of any job in the dept. Hands down. $23 a day more than patrol. What a fukn joke. For those of you who want to get into the D Unit, be prepared. You won't be happy.

If you're not happy in the D Unit, you can resign your assignment as a detective and go back to you position as an officer.

Roger Whalen was a Prince when on the job, but why he took care of that jag Harry was a mystery to many people.

You're like a dog that enjoys a piece of fatty grizzle from the master's plate while he feasts. Later on he'll let you sit by his feet while he naps in his chair. Have some pride in yourself. They are no more deserving than you or anyone else.

3/29/2014 11:45:00 AM

This statement by definition also means they are just as deserving as you and me and anyone else.

I have no problem with that. would you pass up a promotion ? If you would you are stupid.

16 years between Sgt and Lt? I guess Juan was probably more of a lucky guesser than a successful tester the first time back in the early 90's. If he was that smart, he would've made it a long time ago on his own and wouldn't have needed to beg for merit.

BTW Juan is for Juan first, next comes the hispanics last is everyone else. Worked for Juan saw it first hand

Get ready to be continually disappointed. Back in the 90's in A/4VC we were bitching about the workload and how we were down at least 15 detectives due to retirements and promotions, etc. One day the Lt. comes out and says not to worry. We were back up to snuff with detectives. We thought there must have been a promotion, right? Nope. The city just reduced the number of budgeted positions. That's how the city solved the man power problem.

Buried deep in the General Orders/Specials Orders lies the answer to your question. You're gonna make a great boss someday! Get on CLEAR and look it up yourself, dummy!

If so, he's a dick. I had occasion to speak with him on the phone when he was a potrolman about 10 years ago. A TOTAL PRICK.

Spoke with him also on the phone a few years ago...still a prick. Dumb + arrogant=Merit (again).

You had one conversation 10 years ago and label a guy a total prick? That's rough. If you really knew the guy, I think your opinion would change. His old man was a wagon guy up north. The classiest patrolman you would ever want to meet. His brothers, (one was a C/O) are CPD. All great guys! Yea, MT is alittle gruff, but he was always the working police. Worked with him for years and wouldn't trade a day for the world.

3/29/2014 10:08:00 AM

He's definitely still a prick. And, to top it off, a merit prick.

Talking about GREAT BOSSES now retired-myself included-who have kids OTJ and know that they are worthy of promotions but won't happen unless they ACE a test. We talk here about the "Old Time" bosses who were assholes or great. Tom Faragoi was without the best boss I ever worked for. Got fucked for political reasons but excellent boss and copper. I Fucked up many yrs ago with some BS and Tom took care of my young family and me! Will never forget that SIR. Know you fly in from FL for every St.Jude Parade. Saw you at the March and at MDW. Know your kid is doing fine OTJ. He should be promoted to carry on how this job used to be. Fuck these other kids on now and their asshole daddys who make rank. U da best Tom. TC
