Madigan Finds $100 Million
Evidently, the money tree has sprouted again and is flowering a healthy crop of $100 bills:
- House Speaker Michael Madigan called today for the state to put up $100 million to boost efforts to land the presidential library and museum of President Barack Obama.
The speaker joined fellow Democratic Chicago Rep. Monique Davis in introducing legislation to make the construction money available as the sweepstakes to secure the Obama library shifts into a higher gear.
“Chicago is where the president got his start in public service as a community organizer and as a state senator,” Madigan said in a statement. “Housing his library and museum in the city and state where his impressive career took root is the right thing to do.”
First up, "impressive" is a dubious word to be using for this president. "Carter-esque" is more appropriate, and the peanut farmer is glad to see the mantle of "worst president" lifted from his shoulders while he's still alive.
Second, why build an empty building? This administration has made less documentation available for viewing that any in history, sealing everything from school records to executive memorandum to guidelines for everything from IRS harassment to NSA data collection policies.
Third, where the heck has this $100 million materialized from in a state that is rapidly approaching, if not passing $300 billion in total debt.

Didn't Obama tout himself and his campaign as being on the cutting edge of technology and social media? Then let him lead the way to an electronic version of the Presidential Library and save us taxpayers the burden of funding another ego trip for him.
Another library in Chicago would be disrespectful to the late Mayor harold Washington Library, a unique and wonderful facility. Any Obama Library should be built in the State Capitol, Springfield, but the Chicagoland Politicians just want it so they can get the kickbacks from the Contractors obtained to build it, and to further skim money from the Middle-Class Taxpayers of Illinois and Chicagoland.
Imagine a library without any exhibits and reference materials available for studying? All of the files will be sealed and the records impounded.
Birth certificate? Medical records? College and law school transcripts? Law review articles?

I heard that there will be two ways to get into the library.
Regular admission will be 100 dollars per person. You would have to pass through metal detectors, get frisked, and apply well in advance to be let in. You will then be obligated to buy lunch for those who snuck in (see below)
The other way is to pay a delivery truck driver five dollars to take you to the steam plant, and you get dropped off with a bottle of water, given a map of the steam/engineering tunnels and instructions where to avoid security. The Obama library will provide you with free band-aids if you scratch your knees. Also snacks are left in discreet hallways for those who happen upon them. If you graduate from an approved Obama on site course you get to stay as long as you want. If you get stopped by security and are threatened to be thrown out, just accuse security of splitting up your family and they will let you go.
Will it need books?
Madigan is 'nucking futs'. The fact is not one dime is needed for any Presidential Library for Barry Soetoro. Oops, I mean Barack H. Obama.
Reason is that I'm positive that the Chicago Chapter of the Communist Party USA would be more than willing to give 'Barry' all the space needed in their Bridgeport HQ on Halstead Ave for his papers and displays. It can be placed next to the displays of other 'great' commie leaders: Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot!
And on the way out visitors can stop at the gift stand and buy copies of the 'Communist Manifesto', 'Das Kapital', and 'Rules For Radicals' -- all autographed by 'comrade Obama'.

I am from Indiana and would like to respond to the comment about how Indiana went from Debt to Surplus. When Mitch Daniels became Governor in 2005, one of his first acts was to institute right to work for State Employees. Because of this, the majority of State employees left the union and state employee productivity increased significantly. Pension benefits were converted to a 401K and health insurance was reworked placing more emphasis on employees being responsible for their health. Employee benefit costs declined. The State sales tax was increased to 7% but business and personal income taxes were lowered, the state teachers union was forced to accept teacher performance standards. Because of the lowering of taxes, business investment and sales increased resulting in more state taxable income and Indiana built up over a $1 Billion surplus. In addition, they also re-worked their casino industry to be more competitive. Indiana is Republican run from Indianapolis and according to friends of mine who are state employees, most have a Southern Indiana heritage. In another words, they don't give a shit about liberal democrats. The Democrats control Lake County, but Indy has such effective budget control over them that they are effectively neutered. There is very little Section 8 housing vouchers, no Link cards, no state AFDC. If you look at the 2012 presidential election map of Indiana, Obama won only in a few areas, Gary, Ft. Wayne, the east suburbs of Indy. The rest of the state voted overwhelmingly Republican. You can see it when you drive the state. Less state investment and improvements in those areas that voted for Barry. The spoils go to the winners. I moved out of Chitcago in 2007 to LaPorte County. Best move I ever made.
