Trib Continues to See No Evil
- A trio of thieves snatched several high-end handbags this afternoon before fleeing in an SUV that was waiting outside Bloomingdale's on Michigan Avenue.
About 3:30 p.m., a man and two women entered the store located on the 900 block of North Michigan Avenue and grabbed several handbags, said Police News Affairs [...].
The trio ran out of the store and fled in a white SUV, he said.
The group was described as between the ages of 18 to 25.
As of 5:45 p.m., no one was in custody for the thefts and police were investigating.
Well heck, we've just about got 'em surrounded. Word is that the detectives have about 200 suspects upstairs all waiting for lineups. Now if they could just find an ET to process.

If these handbags were so high end, how come the store just had them laying around and so easy to snatch? Why were they not better secured? Sounds like negligence on the part of the store. Probably just some poor young family that needed the money to buy food for their starving baby, or to put big sister through collage.
All those store have been told to hire security at the doors.
They always respond with a lame answer.
Corporate does not feel that the image of security guards(armed) fit the image of the company.

Ha! There are foot units in that area..... thats what happens when you ask the police to stay away from the building because it brings negative attention. Yes.... the foot units were asked to not go near the entrances to the 900 building because it scares away customers.

In general, merchandise on N. Michigan Ave is not secured like it were in a West Side Rib Shack & Liquor Store; you know, behind an inch and a half of lexan, you pay through the revolving windows and get your brown paper bag as it turns around. Soggy piece of white bread in sauce on the bottom.
When the offenders are black, why won't the media say so? Don't citizens have a right to know what the offenders look like? Perhaps they saw something?

Okay, the answer seems lame but consider the opposite - the store has security at the door, and the guard gives the fish-eye to the three Amish honor students who enter. I was a private corporate investigator on north Michigan avenue after my retirement. We has so many gangs of pickpockets working the area I could not keep track of them. They would prey on the families of patients at northwestern hospital, the surround restaurants and shops with abandon. They worked the hotels and stores and when confronted did not shy away from a little violence. And, surprisingly, they were all black. Little was done either by private security forces or by the police.
Who are they selling these high end purses to? That's what they get for collaborating with hoodlums. Hoodlums follow females to their "high end" stores, point her out and say, she's a thief," They say, "come on in and get her" and they come on in and "case the joint" then steal almost everything or come back and steal. This happened to Barney's of New York, Marshall Field in Water Tower, etc. Karma is a Bush.
Not surprised, the media hates using the word BLACK but let a white or Latino officer strike " using reasonable force of course "on an animal and the media will jump all over that story !!!! I vaguely remember not to long ago that descriptions of the man that went on the Grand Theft Auto 5 like crime spree that killed a young boy on the southside were not immediately released. The trib is even late to give description on Amber Alerts other than vehicle and victim descriptions. Tribune just doesn't give them, white or black, majority of the time
Crime on Michigan ave thriving and now Moody's downgrading chicago bonds again.
3 more downgrades and the bonds
will be "junk"....Michigan ave might soon
be a good place to open up a junkyard.

Just because someone works hard, saves their money, doesn't blow it on the ponies or streetcorner sex, but buys real estate and becomes a landlord, YOU decide they're a slumlord?
For your information, one of his tenants was interviewed on tv and he talked about what a great landlord the guy was, always immediately taking care of any little problem and always concerned and helpful.
Stop tearing people down when you don't know anything about them or their circumstances. It doesn't make you look smarter or better. It makes you look stupid and petty.

Many times, maybe most, the media doesn't name the race if the offenders are black. We know that. Keep beating that drum so the public knows that too.
A producer on the TV show COPS said they purposely film more white criminals for the same reason, if they filmed to truly reflect the crime, they are afraid of being criticized for filming mostly black criminals.
Ever since I came on the job the Daily Bulletin has been at least 98% black criminals in the wanted photos. Every cop knows that. Same with the special bulletins they used to put out on burglars, pickpockets, stickup guys etc.
The media would never print that stuff, they never would print the truth about crime. Too afraid of the "racist" tag.
