Aldercreature "Stunned" at Bribe
- Ald. Howard Brookins had just told a real estate developer he wasn’t likely to support a new liquor license in his South Side ward when the developer announced a proposal that would “make everyone happy,” federal prosecutors say.
The developer – who turned out to be an FBI informant wearing a hidden video recorder -- unzipped his organizer and pulled out a sheet of paper with a post-it note stuck askew on the bottom, spelling out a $12,000 bribe offer in exchange for the alderman’s support. Brookins turned his head “slightly sideways” as he looked at the paper, then passed it to an aide who handed it to the alderman’s longtime chief of staff, Curtis V. Thompson Jr., prosecutors said.
[...] A criminal complaint unsealed on Friday charged Thompson with bribery. Brookins, however, was not charged with any wrongdoing.
In a telephone interview, Brookins, an attorney and son of a former state senator, denied knowledge of the alleged bribery, saying he was stunned at the charge against Thompson, an employee since the alderman was first elected in 2003. The chairman of the City Council black caucus, Brookins lost the 2008 Democratic primary for Cook County state’s attorney amid a crowded field of candidates. His campaign slogan was “Brookins for Justice!”
Imagine that.

Pay to play: It's the Chicago Way!
Brookins is as crooked as a corkscrew.
"Hey boys and girls! It's your ol' buddy, Police Superintendent Bronx Bullschitz here. It's time for question and answer time.
Question .1 What do Newark, New Jersey and Chicago have in common? Garry McCarthy as police superintendent!
Question 2. What future does Chicago have in common with Newark, NJ? Federal oversight of their police departments after Mc Carthy left.
Now that's leadership for you. Way to go Rahm. This will look good on your resume for 2016.
Learned from the Daley crime family to insulate himself from criminal activity, let someone else take the fall.
Proves that old Albanian saying "You can't bribe an honest man." Chicago is blessed to have such a man.
"Aldercreature "Stunned" at Bribe"
KNOCK! KNOCK!
"Who is it?"
"FBI!"
>FART-SQUIRT!<
"Aiiee! My silk boxers!"
Ya stinkin' mofo! Go somewhere and change them shitty drawers!
Remember when this assclown was running for State's Attorney?
What did this wet-eyed punk promise if he won?
"I'll indict a cop a month."
We'll laugh our ass off when "Broke-ins" gets HIS dumb ass indicted.
Poot-Butt...
Color us "stunned" that this cheesy little, turned-up toe shoe wearing rat-pimp didn't pop on the feebs radar years sgo.
Brooking is shocked even though Thompson was previously involved in an insurance fraud scam with a different alderman? Let me guess, he's just try to help rehabilitate the guy.
There is no wrongdoing -
Going back ALL the way to Morgan Finley when he was asked by the Press about his people taking money to look up deeds and get paperwork quickly for lawyers coming into the County Clerk's office, he merely said, "Those aren't bribes. Those are tips for good service."
Now THAT is the Chicago way.
Next case.
Brookins had a known felon named Kerry Stinson exhonerated for a UUW arrest that happened in his ward. Imagine that!
No. His campaign slogan was one cop a month indicted.
Hillary knew nothing about Benghazi
Christie knew nothing of the lane closings
Richie knew nothing about his nephew the murderer
Brookins knew nothing about his top aide's scam
Do any politicians know anything about anything?
Haha. Howard is such joke. Not only did he win and lose when he ran for Cook County State's Attorney after he was endorsed by now convicted Ald. Ike Carothers, he tried to run again in 2012 and has been walking around telling everyone he is running in 2016. Guess this news might mean a change of plans for ole' Howie. Or maybe not. Preckwinkle loves him. She thinks he'd be great. She happy to endorse all sorts of criminals. Haha.
Again WHY WHY 50 Aldercreatures???
Part time job
Drain on Pensions too
What work Do they DO?
He was just getting ready to turn his life around...
I wish somebody could modivate ald. Zalewski to fill the pot holes along archer ave.
"...make everyone happy..."
Happy ending?
Why didn't he call the police immediately and have that undercover agent arrested for bribery?
Still a POS.
The wrath of Khan. Faisal Khan that is! Brookins must know he is next. Unless he is currently wired up for the feds.
Just another Chicago politician and bullshitter.
New campaign slogan "Crookins for justice!!!"
Brookins is no friend of ours. Hopefully he will be indicted too.
I wonder if the "stunned" aldercreature will fire the indicted assistant? And, if he does, will the indicted assistant now unemployed and broke and facing a few years in the federal slammer talk stuff about the aldercreature? Interesting times ahead for Brookins. He has not explained the turn around on his stance on liquor licenses after the cash was exchanged. Why did the feebs wait from Christmas until march to unveil the indictment? How many others are caught up by this mole? Why did the feebs target Brookins ( other complaints against him)? I sure hope some other aldercreatures go down the tubes. They deserve it, but no one more then Brookins. And, imagine, he ran for cook country states attorney.
Brookins your next clown lets hope your guy tells the Feds about your corruption sing a new song you pos!
Brookins only saving grace here is that he probably can't read, hence passing to the aide and protecting his innocence.
IM confused?
Its ok to take money if a company donates to a City project the Mayor gets behind.
The Company then recieves some other contract from the City which the Mayor has endorsed(bike lane, meters, flower boxes, wrought iron fences etc etc.
The company then donates to the mayor campaign fund millions of dollars. Which the mayor pays his wife a salary.
SOUNDs LeGAL TO ME
The Feds could get an Alderman a month too!

Brookins is shocked because it was supposed to be $20,000 and the cheapskate brought it down to $12,000. Brookins thought his Chief of Staff was stiffing him out of $8,000 and pocketing that himself.
It's like this, he's got this thing, and it's fucking golden and he isn't going to just give it away!
The culture of corruption continues and thrives in Chicago.
Ali-Rahm and his 40 thieves.

Is this the same guy scc?
Typical. Corrupt. Cheater. Scum. Immoral. Unethical. Evil. Wrongful. The Chicago way
Didn’t Curtis V. Thompson complete his annual ethics training? I’m not sure if aldermanses and their coveted staff are required to complete ethic training. The city spent lots of your money on glossy brochures outlining mandatory ethics training and the like produced by then director of the board of ethics Steve Berlin titled “Ethics Matter.” Brookins was a candidate for states attorney. He must be pure as the driven snow to seek such a top position of legal authority. This minor transgression directly reflects on alderman Brookins. Remember the proverbial ward apples don’t fall far from the tree. Nothing surprises me. Business as usual. Shakedown, takedown, you’re busted! Remember the tone set at top from the nation’s highest office holder who is a product of the Chicago democrat machine? We were duped into believing obama’s promise of the “the most transparent and ethical administration in the U.S.”. Empty rhetoric, broken promises and a track record of abuses of power are on display and are the everyday norm from the highest office to the multitude of lower offices. Curtis V. Thompson, a City of Chicago employee an aldermanic assistant since 2003, is just another glaring example of the best government money can buy and the city that works only after greasing the skids. Maybe the media can corner rahm and conduct a direct in depth interview on this criminal arrest and its implication for democrats in the upcoming elections in city, county and state government. I’m curious what ethical platitudes, gems of wisdom and misdirection emanate from the leader of the city council.
I'm stunned that he's stunned. Howard Crookins wouldn't take a bribe! He would split it with the person that took it for him!
How much was Brookins cut?
Brookins' Office rhymes with Crooks In Office . . . .
How long before HB makes it a race issue?
LOOK!
Another crooked politician!
Yet, City Hall wants to steal the pensions away from the workers!
Pay to play at it's best!
Bribery, in Chicago, Shocking!
Eliot Ness
This is Chicago, divide and conquer. Take down the Chief of Staff, get up on wires and listen for more neverous players scrambling to hide, destroy and plan their lack of involvement. Taking down Brookins too early is not good even though theres a sealed federal inditement with his name on it. Its not if but when.
The real FUCKING CLOWNS are the FEDS. They always go after the wrong mutt.
Trumped up charge on my man Brookins!

Come on, the guy was on his way to the Federal Building to turn it in and volunteer to wear that fed wire when he was indicted. He meant to give it back and make a report, he wanted to do the right thing, damnit.

Exactly right.
His flunky got caught. Think he really didn't know what was going on? PLEASE!!!!!

Sir! That is Morgan M. Finley! (grin)
"Next case."
OK. I always liked the picture of Secretary of State Paul Powell on the Rules Of The Road pamphlet -- the one with the benign half-smile and the silver-framed portrait of his sainted mother on his desk, turned to face the camera.
All the shoeboxes of cash must have been in the closet off to the side...
So the chief of staff gets charged, but not the Alderman? If he saw the note offering the bribe, why isn't he on trial right next to him???
Reduce number of alderman and city hall will have less corruption. Feds will have less work . It's a win win
ANYBODY who has a conversation with Brookins from today forward should clearly understand the conversation is being recorded and reviewed by the Feds.
The ONLY way he walked on this one is by flipping and cooperating.

He will be after the feds get the chief of staff to testify. Just making a stronger case. Feds take their time, but get the job done. Not like CPD, who would charge in a some suggested on the blog and make the arrest. They wait, gather additional evidence and then make the arrest. Already they have the guy saying hesa done this for 3 other aldermen. This isn't over by a longshot.
